Title: Your Con Haul Thread!
Post by: grunt 4 mvp on June 20, 2011, 11:13:03 AM
I'm always curious to hear what people picked up, and everyone is always eager to share. Post lists, pics or anecdotes!

I got:
Filecards for my collection - Tan grunt, Hawk, Alley Viper, Road Pig, Nullifier, Skidmark
1984 Storm Shadow re-sealed on card
Action Force Roadblack MOC
Plastirama Airborne/Condor on card, Stormshadow w silver accessories & card
Funskool Ripper, Windmill, Lifeline, Red Dog all on card
Snake Eyes mini figure
Night Force Shockwave, Tan grunt, Skidmark
Spanish Countdown MOC
$2 figs: Rock N Roll, Cutter, M Bison, Firefly, Sagat, TeleViper, Ace, Beachhead, Super Trooper
GI Joe Carrying Case
The Convention Set
Vehicle parts to complete: Triple T, Conquest, Tomahawk, Battle Platform, Water Moccasin, SNAKE, Dragonfly
Clear cases for MOC figures

...and picked up some comics from Bounty Hunter Toys that I'd ordered before the con.

Awesome time! Let's hear what you guys found!

I picked up:

4 x POC Alley Vipers
Budo (1988)
Stalker (25th Dark Green camo)
Air Viper (25th Strato Viper)
Stiletto (from LJ)
Battle Force 2000 Pulverizer
Sky Hawk w/ Lift Ticket (25th)

Ultimate Guide to G.I. Joe (from Mark Bellomo of course)
Code Name Blast Off DVD from Ron and Tristan Rudat

Some prints from Jason Edmiston

and my favourite of the show...

I bought a panel from Valentine DeLandro, it was from G.I. Joe Declassified #3, the very last page.  It is the picture at Shooter's funeral, and the Joes are dressed in their dress uniforms in the rain.  Val gave it to me for an amazing price.  He had lots of great art available at the show.

I know someone got him to do a commission of an Alley Viper.   I would love to see a picture of the final work (if you are a board member, and don't mind sharing)

The only thing I wanted to buy was a POC Light-Light.  Didn't see one on Saturday.  I ended up caving and getting from a ebay BIN.

So in the end' i ended up buying

- two figures from POC wave 4 via Hal.
- POC Wave 5 and 6 via KuuKuuSon.
- KuuKuuSon`s guidebook for the new Joe stuff
- Operation Blast Off documentary

I also won two of the cancelled vehicle sets, in which I gave one set away to Morgardee.  Got a Bellomo`s second GI JOE reference book in return.  Plus Dave helped me with the GIJCC convention stuff.   Also ended up with a second Joe con convention set.  Trying to trade it but no luck in terms of getting stuff I want back in return.

That's too bad.  I had an extra one in the car but forgot to get it for trade.

I bought page 6 maybe, it's the one with Shooter in camo, looking through binoculars at the top, and the team assembled in the communications room in the middle.
Couldn't believe how affordable these were...

Made out like a bandit. got 3 poc furies and a 25th tiger rat for $15 a piece. arctic threat, both resolute packs and a couple of 25th figures. Bonus was meeting and greeting joe fans from Canada! Had a great time will be there next year deffinatly.

That's a great panel that you bought, by the way.
I was keen on getting one that included Shooter, but also wanted the original team. That was tough, given that they didn't really interact.
Yours is a great example. If you have the comic handy, check mine out too - I bet you'd dig it.

That's great to hear.
I'd like to hear what the dealers thought of this years' Con too...
I would have thought it was slow to start, but one of my friend's said it was great, right from the 9am entry.

You can see all of Valentine DeLandro's art at http://http://www.comicartlinks.com/for_sale/vd.html.  I got the opportunity to sit and interview him, for my column I write at Comic Book Daily.  It was a real pleasure to meet him again.

All of the stuff I really, really wanted had huge price tags. Expected, but still not a lot of great deals on rarer items. Most of them were there at the end of the show.

Con Set (with signed comic)  ;D
Reproduction jungle camo Trooper (almost got the White Mortal too)
Minty tight joint Dusty in a $2 bin
Cobra Jet Pack from the free table at the end of the day for a custom
Canadian Triple T for free from a dealer wanting to get rid of stuff before packing up, for another custom
Codename: Blast Off DVD
A couple of newer Star Wars figures from the guy with all the loose figures for $5
A handful of worthless raffle tickets  >:D
4 X Timbits, I shared 2
My daughter is just getting into the Toy Story movies and so she got a Woody action figure she literally tried to tear open with her teeth. My wife also picked up some Beanie Babies for her.

Meeting Ron Rudat and hanging out with friends all day = Priceless

Yeah, what pluv said about priceless is the truth.  I had so much fun hanging with old time and new friends.  Special thanks to Paul for the beer.  James and I can put it away.  :D  Pluv was cool to sit in for a podcast segment.  The Rudat family was awesome.  Always good to hang out with my fellow Declassified pals Josh, Brian, and Danny (who has an insane sickness for Snake Eyes).  Last but not least, seeing Mike, Ryan, Ed, Pete, Dave, Radio Guy, Deadshot and the Joe Wives while trying to stay out of their way!  Hopefully I didn't forget any names.

I didn't get a whole lot.  I did pull the trigger on the Black Major's White Cobra Mortal and the Invasor repro from my pal gsmiley.  I picked up a loose POC IG from GIDean.  The DVD with signatures from the Rudats.  I also picked up a POC Shock Trooper in multi language packaging - normal to you but "exotic" to me.  Of course the con set, an extra comic, the con t-shirts and some JoeCanuck cards I don't have yet.  My co-host Greg set us up with some Timbits - atta pal!!

I didn't make it to the 'Con (moving), but thanks to the efforts of the magnificent pdaat I did get two very significant items: the 1998 TRU Conquest that I've been trying to find for quite some time, and for the first time ever A CON SET!!!!!!   :o ;D  8)   Special thanks also to Realboss and Deadshot who were making an effort to hook me up until they discovered Paul was already on it.

This made me realize something else.  The CanJoeCon, the Con sets, the Canuckverse, and the board itself are all cool...but what makes this a standout, terrific site and the reason I frequent this board when I can is because of the fantastic people on here.  Applause to you all!

I'm promoted, will be fully moved after this weekend, and should be able to save some money over the next year...so the Good Lord willing and barring something crazy happening, I'm making next year's con.  I need to meet the folks who have been so good to me!

Thanks for the kind words sir (and olyeller).  Glad I could help some people out - even if not all altruistically. ::)

Props to other who helped out other guys too.

And thanks to Deadshot.  Last year I brought a "divorcable" amount of cash but wasn't looking for as much this year so I brought a litle less.  Pete bankrolled me when the extra con sets came up.

And if nothing else, this Con showed me the brotherhood of the community and how everyone helps each other out.  I had brought a bunch of beer with me as I really don't drink at all and wanted to get rid of a left over case from my birthday.  Several fellow collectors rose to the challenge and helped me out!

The Con tapped me out after the first hour =/

- Con set
- '88 Repeater
- '85 Ripper (to replace yellowing legs on my original)
- a couple of incomplete AWE Strikers for $5 <-- best deal that day!
- Mark Bellamo's Totally Tubular 80s Toys <-- Mark is a class act, I'd buy every book he ever writes!  Really enjoying reading this one and taking a trip down memory lane.  I hope Mark can attend the convention every year.

My panel's list was $125, and he had cut me an awesome deal (such a great deal I can't post it).

Valentine has been really great to me for the last couple months.  I met him at ComiCon and featured him in an article I write.  I interviewed him on Saturday for another column I am writing, and he is very nice.  One of the really good guys in the comic business.

Shark, if you didn't know this, I'll save you the pain of Atari joystick blisters.  Sega Genesis controllers have the same pin configuration as Atari joysticks.  They work too; the d-pad is of course the stick and the B button = Fire button.  Makes controlling your Atari easier, more responsive, & less painful!

I got the con set too, of course, twice in fact. Will probably sell back one to a friend, not sure tough.

In addition to about a hundred cheap (mostly weaponless) cobra soldiers of various types to boost my legions, (including 4 Cobra-La Royal Guards, which is cool because a guard of one was pathetic!) I also got nice prices on convention soldiers, notably 5 Skull Squad Soldiers at 10$ each.

Especially pleasing to me was finding the comic 3 pack including Colonel Breakhov that l;ooks like himself and not just a repainted Red Star. Now, I need only find the pack with Horror Show and Stormavik, I'll have at least one version of everyone on the team. I'll only need the original Red Star and the black Big bear for a complete collection. I just hope they get some vehicules someday.

The Crimson Command Copter at 10$ was a nice find too. Sligthly damaged, but I can deal with it, and I already had Tomax and Xamot in pilot versions.

It was also good to find the black version of Cobra Commander with his podium at a reasonable price. Would have prefered the other one, but it's good.

Of particular interest was a customised comic 3 pack. It features Destro and Cobra Commander in the civilian disguises they put on in the Marvel comics when escaping from a failed assault on the G.I.Joe pit. (issue 55, the one included in the pack, nice touch!) Very well done, with pieces presumably sculpted by the creator, such as Destro's hat, and closed back with great skill (you'd swear this was never opened!) If it wasn't that the filecards in the back are completely irrelevant (red ninja vipers, etc) you could probably fool someone who didn't know that such figures don't exist that it's a real pack.  I'll try to get a webcam and post a picture, I think it's worth a look.

If the one who created that is reading this, I think it's pure genius! I love it!

Only regrets:
I managed to lose my convention patch, along with my first raffle ticket. i hope it didn,t get drawn while lying under a table or something.

There was a table with a box full of pack-rats. I always wanted those, and I wanted to inquire on the price, but there never was anyone at that table! And I came back many times. Those guys are lucky I'm no thief! In the end, I never knew the price and didn't get any.

Too bad that guy with the brazilian figures didn't get back this year. Maybe he would have decided on prices for his items by now, and maybe (ok, wishful thinking here) it would have been something I would have found acceptable to pay.

Overall, a good haul, but it pales in comparison to last year, where I found numerous unique cobra characters I didn't have. Now I only found Steel Cobra and didn't even get it.  I guess I have to leave some finds for the next years!

WOW! Awesome haul. I love that I can get some cheap army builders. I only got one original Cobra soldier this year, but last year I grabbed Eels, Snow Serpents, SeiGees and Vipers on the cheap. I agree about Royal Guards. I don't like them much, but I had to have at least 3 or 4 or it seemed pointless.
