Title: On a personal note...
Post by: morgardee on October 31, 2011, 01:27:23 PM
Here's something most of you don't know about as it's of a personal nature. Last year, just after I started the physical work on the 2011 CJC  set my father was diagnosed with colon cancer. Around January he had 18 inches of his colon removed. A few months later they came back and said "oops, we should have called you sooner, you still have some cancer and now it's outside you colon". Around the end of winter, early spring he started a 6 month treatment of chemo therapy. On top of this there was a shopping list of possible complications due to his age (he's now 80), his pace maker, blood thinners, and anything else that made the surgery in January high risk. That and since chemo therapy weakens your immune system we had to stay away if we had hint of a cold.

I have been carrying this stress for almost a year. I'm not kidding when I say that every night when I went to bed I was thinking about all the "What if..." stuff.

I am thrilled to say that as of about 10:00 am today my father is cancer free.

Truly awesome Morg. Really.  Enjoy your time with him - now without the spectre of "just in case....".

Good to hear!  My cousin went through something similar, he had a lot of his intestines removed and most of his stomach.  It was a long and hard thing to go through.  Good to hear everything went ok!

Oh wow. Cancer is so scary. It can turn worse so suddenly, it's hard to catch it all conclusively, and the side effects take over your life. For your dad to pull through is a miracle that has to be appreciated in a way that's almost too big to appreciate.

I eccho Scramble's words. Some or most families don't get a second shot when Cancer is concerned, so all I can say is that I'm just too happy for you and your family or for anyone that is this fortunate. And you'll forgive my naturally twisted humor, but this is an awesome treat indeed and the best news I've heard happening to anyone I know well (considering that we're October 31st, and it's Halloween and all ;D ).

Thanks guys. It really means a lot for all your nice comments.

I feel no shame in telling you when I heard this that I sat down and cried for about 5 minutes. I've never cried "tears of joy" before. It's a very odd experience to say the least. At first I didn't even know why I was crying. I guess it's just relief and having all the stress I've been carrying just lift off my shoulders.

Now back to living life to it's fullest!  ;D

Great news and a nice story to share. We usually only here grim stories in the media so it nice to hear something heartwarming once in a while.
