Title: Dreadnoks have arrived!
Post by: morgardee on January 18, 2012, 08:31:07 AM
I love Dreadnoks, so when the 7 pack was first mentioned from BBTS I was thrilled. They arrived yesterday and all in all they are excellent.

A few things that could be improved:

Road Pigs: his arm shield. It's meant to be 2 pieces so it falls apart very easily.

Gnawgahyde: I miss his warthog, knife boot, machete on his wrist and bow and arrow. Those are the sort of things that really made him stand out. The figure looks nice and all, but it feels light on gear. This is probably the biggest disappointment of the set.

Zanya: She comes with an AK 47 and pistol. An AK 47 just doesn't feel like a Dreadnok weapon. She's the daughter of Zartan, who among other things is known for stealth. Why would she use a loud, clumsy weapon like an AK 47? Give her a cross bow or something.

Thrasher: First off, I'm no calling him "Thunder". Aside from that and the fact he now looks EXACTLY like a buddy of mine in the face he comes with a sword. This is an easy fix, but why does he have a sword? Edit: Looks lie the sword was suppose to go with Road Pig. Why does he get a sword?

Most of this is very minor stuff and I'm trilled to have them all. I need to re-sort my Cobra figures and find the perfect setup for my Dreadnoks. Once I have that done I'll add some pics.

Bottom line, well worth the money.

Did you get the marauders as well?
I was always a huge fan of the dreanocks and wished they made a thunder machine for the 25th line.

Yes, I got both sets. I haven't had the time to look them over in detail yet but 3 things jumped out at me.

The gun holster on the chest a Tarus is HUGE! It' the same chest armour Zanzibar uses so they both have the same problem.

Low Light got ripped off when it comes to all the cool gear he originally came with.

Red Dog has a hole in his left leg, like something is suppose to plug into it. I just strapped his side arm over the hole with one of those little elastics that come with the sets.

It's another great set and worth having and I'm really just nit picking now.

I really dig Lt. Falcon and Mercer is tons of fun.

I wanted to spend more time with the sets last night but I'm on the final level of MW3 (Veteran level) and that sort of ended up eating up my free time last night.

I got my set yesterday too (just Marauders, not Dreadnoks). I only had time to really get a look at one of 'em (Mercer) and he was quickly flattened by the unstoppable Juggernaut. I had to take him off the shelf and put him in a baggie for his own protection.

I'll post more thoughts later on...

Yes they are great figures for both sets but the accessories are lacking somewhat and no card art, not even on the file cards(cost cutting measure I guess).  You can't see Tarus's face if you put the gun in the chest holster.  They changed the names of a lot of the figures.   Tarus is now Bull, Mercer is straight Mercenary, Gnawgahyde is Gnaw Hyde, Thrasher is Thunder.  I do like the camo look on the Marauders especially Low Light.  And Red Dog comes with a football!   It's funny Morg mentioned Thrasher looks like a buddy of his because I think Zanzibar looks like a pal of mine.  Minus the eye patch.  Cool sets and good head sculpts just need to trick the figs out with some extra weapons and accessories.

I also got these great sets thanks to Jss597 (Hub City TOys )and I'm very very blown away by them. I had a hunch that the Marauder pack was going to rock, and it actually rocks enough for me so I'm really happy I acquired it. My disappointment for now is only the way Mercenary's arms look frail but maybe he'll look better once he's out of his plastic prison and I can change his arm positions. I am very impressed with the way the Noks came out, it's actually better than I thought, 'nuff said!

I took a small punch and poked small holes in the bottom of both Taurus's hip holster and chest holster.  The holes allow the tips of the barrels of the pistols to poke through the bottom of the holsters.  It is barely noticeable, looks natural, and holds the pistols in much, MUCH better.  Plus, Taurus no longer looks like he'll take a pistol handle to the chin if he takes off running.

I still have my sets in the pile of loot at bbts.  So, I haven't gotten the first hand experience yet.  But while I am glad we got the dreadnoks and even the marauders, the inaccuracies abound.  I prefer accurate.  Sci-fi/lifeline/airtight accurate.  Just about every set of legs in the dreadnok pack is wrong (zandar has roc viper legs for crying out loud).  The marauders pack is more like pursuit of cobra updates than 25th remakes.

you know, i prefer accurate as well, but considering we have 7 figures (collectors' wanted) for 50$ I think it's as good deal. Honestly, I don't think this could have hit mass retail because those kind of Af are more collectors oriented than kids'. I was like you regarding the quality on some of the AF but after opening them and putting them beside the rest of the dreadnoks from 25th, they are way more detailed than their predecessors.

Overall, these are great rendition of "collectors' classics". 4 stars+ on both sets

I finally cracked open the rest of 'em.

The Mercer is the best figure of the bunch. It just screams personality. So do the rest of the Renegades. They're the real gem here and worth the $50 alone. I love how big and nasty these guys look. I'd been a real fan of the Renegades since I was a kid and finally re-completed my set last year (save Taurus's gun) and they've been set up w/ Falcon defending the Coastal Defender (thanks Ed) from a mob of Toxo-Zombies. This year I get to update my display with 2012 Renegades and Zombie-Vipers. (20 of 'em instead of 5 too)

I was really looking forward to a new Falcon figure, but he seems kind of bare. Definitely needs some extra gear. I wonder what happened to the belt/leg apparatus he had in the prototype image. It's too bad. It's a great figure otherwise.

The rest of the Marauders I'm not as impressed with. It should've either been all-the-way with the hokey Marauders pattern, or ditch the blue altogether. As is, it seems kind of in between. They're also way under-stocked with weapons. I know I'm echoing a common sentiment, but that just makes me feel all the more like it's an obvious omission. The Low-Light figure is the real loser of the bunch just because he has so many slots where one would be able to attach accessories that he doesn't have. He also doesn't grip his rifle so well.

Overall I'm thrilled with the set. I've definitely been more excited about G.I. Joe's anniversary lines since they started remaking 1987 stuff. I suppose I shouldn't hold my breath for Psyche-Out or Fast Draw though.

If I had to be, I think the GIJCC would be the guys to bring you those characters via maybe the FSS 2013?

I still have to open both sets.

But after viewing them in packs, I am not a fan of the updated look of Taurus or Bullshit or whatever he is called.

Just to show off how cool all the Dreadnok's look together:

Monkeywrech on the right has had lots of modifications done. Back in the day of the news letter I wrote an article on modifying the head and legs. Since then I have removed the original Outback head and replaced it with a Slayer Design Studios head.
