Title: Super7 GI Joe discussion
Post by: canprime on July 13, 2021, 02:24:36 PM
Might as well start a thread now.  No official word yet, but enough reveals to know that Super7 is doing Joe.  Early reveal seemed to point to Ultimates, ReAction and Cyborg offerings.

Now we have Timber in what is obviously Ultimates scale.  While timing aside (who might skip this because of Hasbro's release?), It should be interesting.

Their Cyborg line will obviously start with a B.A.T.

ReAction will be interesting, but probably follow close to whatever they release in Ultimates.

Next post will be after this week's reveals.

So the reveals were last week.

Have to say I am both excited, and surprised.

In regards to the ReAction line I am thrilled with what the went with, but WOW is that a lot of product.  I would personally buy the whole set if I could afford to, but funds are too limited nowadays to go in on a line I don't 100% want.  I love the variety of troopers, especially the deep dive of the "Y' & "H" backs for the Cobra Troopers.  Kwinn was an inspired early choice.

If they were cheaper I would get them all, but at $20+ (Cdn) it just isn't worth it for 5 POA figures that only have a cursory ability to work with the original ARAH line.  Still, bravo Super7.

Now, as for Ultimates.......

WOW, talk about the cartoon jumping out of your TV and into toy form.  These look great!!!  I am a little surprised by the choice of figures.  Super7 has been pretty good at going at least a little out of left field for one figure in a wave.  This time it was all safe bets, but thankfully 1 Army builder.

Duke is the weakest in my opinion.  Something about the head sculpts just seems off.  I don't know if it is the cartoon design, or not, but it just didn't translate as well as I would have thought.  Also I don't get why Snake Eyes gets a jet pack, but Duke doesn't.  He is arguably the one with the most memorable uses of a jet pack.  I mean he is wearing one in the opening credits of the first series, and the opening of the movie is iconic for his use of a Jet Pack to destroy the Cobra Aircraft, and then taking the Flag up to the Statue Of Liberty.

Cobra Commander.  I like the overall look, and the video game ad accessory (Snake wrapped around the globe) is a classic Super7 deep dive.  I love the cape as well.  I only wish they would have included the hooded head instead, but I guess it is a wait and see if the rumour of Hasbro not wanting to use the hooded version anymore holds true.

Snake Eyes.  Finally the "Ultimate" (get it) V1 Snake Eyes from the cartoon.  This is incredible and looks exactly like he popped out of my TV.  Timber is an awesome accessory and I love the cartoon accurate rifles.  AND YES he had exposed hands, not gloves!!

BAT.  Saved the best for last.  This is a thing of beauty!!!!!  I can't wait for this bad boy (I actually went in for 2, and might get 1 more, but $$$).  I love the red face plate, which finally gets the cartoon version in my hands that I always wanted.  All the accessories are perfect compliments to the figure.  I am so happy with this figure.  Maybe the only thing I would have wanted was a replaceable battle damaged chest plate, but no big whoop.

I have no interest in GI JOE figures that have the same shitty articulation as the original Star Wars figures.

Tell us how you really feel Pete.  :)

Yeah the limited articulation (less than original ARAH) is a letdown, but that is what Super7 does.  Someone pointed out that they, as a company, come from the vinyl, static side of collecting.  So I get their decision to go the simplified ReAction route.  Of course it also would make sense that Hasbro doesn't want another company doing 3 3/4" figures that are their domain, especially for GI Joe.  So this is a good compromise for those who want them.

At $20+ Cdn each I am taking a hard pass.  Hell I won't shell out for the new 3 3/4" figures either at $18.  I just don't see the value anymore when the 25th/ME figures started out less than $10.

Are these even in retail?  I haven't gone to a TRU in a while due to COVID.

But I did step into a EB store today:  picked up my first 6" one (Zartan).

I don't think regular retail carries them in Canada.  I have only ever seen them up here at comic/specialty stores.

Good choice on the Zartan, he is one of the best releases so far.  At least of what I have seen in person..

Think of them as G.I. Joe figures for Super7 collectors. They're not for us.

I would consider getting these for my boy but he's not really interested in action figures...to much electronic entertainment I guess. :(

Wave 3 of the Joe Ultimates:

https://preorder.super7store.com/collections/g-i-joe-ultimates-wave-3-figures (https://preorder.super7store.com/collections/g-i-joe-ultimates-wave-3-figures)

Now this is a great lineup.  Not that the previous 2 waves were not great as well, but this is wave hits a few sweet spots for me personally.

Storm Shadow:  Looks great!!!  Overall great design, and really evokes the cartoon.

Scarlett:  Another great choice and look.  I think the head sculpt doesn't quite capture the cartoon look, but still great overall.

Doc:  WOW!!  This a a homerun in my opinion.  Both the character selection and execution.  Doc is definitely under represented usually so it is great to see him here.  However this looks fantastic.  Not just the figure and accessories, but this is the first head sculpt (non masked) I think really captures the look of the cartoon character.  My favourite of the wave (closely followed by Storm Shadow)

Cobra Trooper:  Another army builder.  Overall great look, and it was a great choice by Super7 to include an alternate skin tone option rather than trying to milk us for another version down the line.  Really great look overall and will be a nice addition to the collection.

Well well well. What do we have here.
is that articulation I see?! Perhaps this line is worth second look.

Doc looks real nice at first glance.

$55 US each!!! I'm out. New toys shouldn't cost the same as vintage. I'm out!!!

Yeah Super7 is not cheap, but the Ultimates line is a great way to get fairly cartoon accurate looks for a lot of different lines.  With good articulation, and a lot of accessories, especially deep dive type accesssories.   Not to mention some deep dive characters that wouldn't probably show up in a Hasbro line.

The big test will be whenever they go up in price again, and how many people will still be willing to buy at $60+US.

Toysrus is having them online and in store in CANADA! I was very surprised to find them on peg in Quebec because of language law. I would have picked snake eyes but he was already gone. The shock trooper is nice.

I wonder if it didn't sell so great in the US and now they have stock to sell up in Canada?

$23 + tax is still too rich for me. I can get two sailors or go and buy a vintage figure that I don't have....can't decide what I want to do.
Title: Re: Super7 GI Joe discussion
Post by: canprime on April 06, 2022, 01:55:18 PM
Yeah the ReAction figures do look great in person.  I would definitely have trouble saying no if they were under $15, but at $23 they are an easy pass.

I have to give Super7 props for the army builders.  Not only are they offered in a huge number of varieties (skin tone, facial hair, Cobra Trooper suspenders!!), they do a great job of evoking the cartoon.

I will definitely be keeping an eye out for any future sales.

I would have a hard time passing on storm shadow and snake eyes... for 10$.  For 23+ taxes, I better buy vintage joes and comple my collection than having more se and ss. Great figures thought.

They work really well with the 3.75" O-ring figs as background characters, or in vehicles.  Some people online have posted using the sailors from the last wave to fill out their Flaggs.

This set is great, but I am really only interested in the Security Robot.  Too bad it is an SDCC exclusive because the price is probably going to be a bit high.  I mean I paid just under $100CDN for the Arctic Vehicle set (with the Blind Woodsman and sled) so I can only imagine what this will cost as an exclusive.  On top of that it is only available at SDCC and if anything is left after the show it will be put up on the Super7 site, which means shipping and customs on top of the price.

So as much as I like this set, I am passing unless I can find it up here for the same price.  Now I have to hope that Super7 decides to give us the Security Robot as a single release down the line.

I really like the packaging.

The figures are a "meh" for me. not a fan of 5POA. And while i didn't mind the cartoon as a kid I'm not overly fond of the cartoon looking toys.

I preordered online Zartan and BAT from their wave 4. I might cave in and get more from Toysrus now... I am hoping for a sale :)

(my local Toysrus moved them with the higher collectibles section. There are plenty of the first wave)

Good question, its probably cheaper for them to stick with their format then to explore o-ring format. And hasbro might be reluctant to give them the license for oring. It's a missed opportunity, would have great to have cartoon accurate oring figures. Oh well we still have the comic packs released some time ago.

Yeah I imagine it will be a dark day for Hasbro when they give up the O-ring style to licensing.

These are pretty great, especially the figures that were never done in O-ring because they fill out the ranks quite well.  However the price is terrible and keeps me away from it, except for the odd "must have" like the Arctic Vehicle set.  I also want that SDCC set, but I'll wait and see since a lot of the Canadian online retailers are getting them now (DJC Collectibles, Toy Snowman, etc.)

At 10$ a piece, I would go banana over the sailors to display on the battle platform or the flagg. I agree it's still a little bit overpriced. I am tempted by bazooka thought.

Oh yeah, at an even $10 I would be all over them and going crazy.

So far the only thing I have from the Joe ReAction line is the Arctic Rescue Vehicle, and that was because it was such a crazy, yet deserving, item that would probably never see the light of day again anywhere else.   I also want the exclusive Pyramid Of Darkness set with the Security Droid, but I can't justify the price right now, maybe if it goes on sale from one of the local online retailers that started offering them.

However that is not the case for these regular ReAction figures.  They are pretty great in my opinion, and I absolutely love the fact that they are more cartoon accurate.  However the price is just too much, even with the current TRU sale.  So it is a wait and see if they drop even further, and if they don't?  Oh well, I already have way too much product as it is.

I looked at these in TRU on Thanksgiving and they look very nice in card however i just can't get past the lack of articulation. This would be a line I would have to leave in package. Its sad because I really want a crew for my flagg.

Plus the price.  $23+tax is ridiculous.

Like I said, $10 and I would be all over them.

However it is tough because Super7 really does hit the nostalgia button with the ReAction line.  Combined with all the never before done releases and it is so difficult to not buy in on at least a few.  But then I see the price again and it gets easier.

Don't forget Red Laser!!!

Honestly I love that Super7 isn't afraid to go deep with character selection, especially in the ReAction line.  I just wish the prices were lower because they are way too expensive for what they are.  That is the main reason why I still only have one ReAction item (Arctic Vehicle set).

Well they do have Target in the US, and TRU up here as retailers so that would help with much bigger order numbers.

I would agree though that I don't know who is buying them at those high prices.  Granted they aren't that much more expensive than Hasbro's Retro figures, but either way 5POA figures at 3.75" scale shouldn't be over $10.

I really like some of the offerings from Super7 in their ReAction line, especially the deep cut choices for GI Joe, but the price is too damn high.  I have about 10 of the Marvel Retro figures, and a few SW Retro figures, but all of them were bought on deep sale/clearance.  I haven't paid more than $5 each (+tax), and even a couple of them were only $3!!!

At that price it is definitely worth it.   Maybe someday Super7 ReAction figures will get a big discount, but they don't seem to go on sale very often, or for much, so I am not holding my breath.

Wow!!!

Another killer wave from Super7.

Wave 4 is going to be:

Zartan
Gung-Ho
Stalker
Baroness (common black/grey uniform)

Man they all look great.  Baroness has her flight helmet!!!!  Gung-Ho comes with a tiny Wolverine!!!!  The whole wave looks great, and Super7 is continuing with the heavy hitters in the waves.  Maybe in a couple waves they'll finally go in for a deeper dive character.

Also no army builder this wave, but it  seems they are doing an army builder in the odd numbered waves only (so far).  Wave one was the BAT and wave 3 was the Cobra Trooper.

Great wave, and I definitely want Zartan and Baroness.

They really knock it out of the park with the accessories.
Similar to the direction Transformers Masterpeice figures have gone, I am not a fan of the hypertoon look.   In all honesty, the toon looked great when I was 10-12, but looking back, not so much.

Damn it Super7.

Just saw that they have a weapons/accessory pack that they will include with anyone who orders the entire wave 4 from them.

I would love to get that accessory pack, but I sure as hell am not going to order directly from them.  The exchange and shipping costs are ridiculous.  It is still cheaper to order from a Canadian retailer instead.  However they won't be able to get the exclusive pack.

I'd be broke if the ReAction line was a reasonable price ($10 or less).

At $20+ each there is no way I would buy almost all of these.  There may be the rare exception, but so far the only Joe ReAction I have is the Arctic Rescue set.

The smart thing Super7 does is both the cartoon looks, and the deep dive characters.  The cartoon look isn't everyone's cup of tea, but at least it is another option.  The deep dive characters are harder to resist.  I mean no other company is going to do civilian disguise CC/Destro/Baroness, or Raven, or the hermit from the Arctic Rescuse set.  So that hits the nostalgia button hard for collectors, and I'm sure makes some collectors pay the crazy price just to get a certain character.

Overall though the ReAction figures are great background, or display, filler figures.   I mean all those different sailors go great on a Flagg to flesh out the crew and display.  Same for the Green Shirts and Cobra Troopers.   Just don't look to closely.

Just a heads up for anyone out there who might be interested.

BBTS (Big Bad Toy Store) is having a spring clearance sale right now.   One of the interesting finds is a complete set of wave 1 of the Joe ReAction figures for $100US!!!   Down from $270US.

It works out to $6.67US a figure.   Of course that is before shipping, taxes and exchange rate.  However if you have a way to ship it to a US address it would only be $4US and it would make for a pretty good deal.

Don't know how long the sale is, but I imagine it won't be long.

Just a quick heads up for Canadians.

DJC Collectibles (out of Ottawa) is having a sale currently on some Super7 stuff.  There is a lot of Joe ReAction figures on sale.

50% off with code:  50/OFFREACTION

They have the Arctic Rescue vehicle, and a good bit of wave 1-3.  Lots of Cobra Troopers, Snakelings, Greenshirts, Sailors, Female Soldiers and a bunch of the named characters (Destro, Storm Shadow, etc. etc.).  They also have some Ultimates on sale, but nothing Joe.

Regular price is $21.99 so 50% off is $11.  Still not the best, but if there is a figure you really want it might be worth it.  A few figures already sold out so I don't know how long the really popular ones will last.

I live in Ottawa so I can just pick up my orders which saves me shipping, but Derek (owner) is a great guy and I have picked up quite a few things from him over the last couple years.

Also the latest Target exclusive ReAction figure has been revealed......TF Shipwreck.   Looks good, and Brian hinted that they have a GI Joe ReAction vehicle in the works!!!  He mentioned it during his interview with The Full Force podcast.   He put the kibosh on Ultimates vehicles, saying it was basically Hasbro's playground right now.   However it seems ReAction scale (3 3/4") is ok for vehicles.   However knowing Brian and Super7 it is just as likely, as not, that it will be a never done before vehicle, as it would be a classic vehicle.

Oh and TRU is having a sale on ReAction figures this week.  They are down to $13.67 each.  Not as good as ToySnowman, but they have a few figures he doesn't if someone is so inclined.

Thanks for the heads up! My local toysrus has been thinned out with the sale, which is great! I am just waiting for a bigger sale to stock on troops - perhaps one of two navy sailors.

I visited toysnowman, it's AMAZING! Lots of stock, well organized. However, I think their primary focus is online shopping, which make sense, it's nice to be able to walk around such great store.

Back on topic: they had Duke & Bazooka and lots of army builder. Duke was originally a hard pass, but it grows on me now. Looks good with Scarlett and Snake Eyes.

I have bought from them before and they are great.  I'm only a couple hours away (Ottawa) but I have never been to the actual physical location.  I might have to remember to hit them up next time I'm in Montreal.

Also did anyone else see the Ultimates Crimson Guard tease from Super7 today?   Looks like we are getting the version with the light blue piping/buttons instead of the usual grey/silver.

Any one saw the MOTHERSHIP from super7. I am super excited to see it made and I am curious about what will be the inside (apparently, panels are removable just like the millenium falcon. Oh man, I am not too optimistic on the price... it will be pricey!

I saw a digital tease short on Youtube yesterday.  I think it was from Super7.   It did a quick video of the mothership and the panels coming off with a slight view of the interior.  Can't really make out too much, but it appears the main front section will have a back wall with a large Cobra logo, and both wings will have removable panels that reveal some kind of guns/cannons.  Also it comes with 2 Flight Pods.

I'm right there with you on price, it won't be pretty.  Also Brian Flynn did and interview at ToyFair with Pixel Dan and said that they would be revealing the interior (and I assume the price) at New York Comic Con.

Well some interesting tidbits from Youtube and Toy Fair about the upcoming Cobra Airship project.

Here is the official short from Super7 as a tease of what is inside:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cwQsxym4W9Q (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cwQsxym4W9Q)

On top of that I was watching Toy Anxiety's video tour of the Super7 booth and they were talking with Kyle.  Brian had done a tour with Pixel Dan and was his usual cagey self when he doesn't want to spill the beans early.  However Kyle was a bit more forthcoming, probably too much so.  At one point the audio clearly was cut to not reveal something he said.  However he did mention a couple of interesting new bits of info.

First there are lights on the bottom of the airship and they will light up (duh).

Second the Trouble Bubbles will be a tier for the project and not included in the base (ha) offering.

Also they did give us a better look at the "exhaust plumes" as stands for the airship.

Official reveal, according to Brian, will be at New York Comic Con.

The Cobra Mothership is live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:

https://super7.com/products/gi-joe-reaction-figures-cobra-mothership (https://super7.com/products/gi-joe-reaction-figures-cobra-mothership)

$495US and comes with 2 Vipers.  1 ReAction Viper Gunner and 1 O-Ring!!???!!!?? Viper Gunner.

Looks like Super7 is going to be getting some license to make O-Ring figures now.  I guess Hasbro has decided to license it out rather than just trying to keep making them themselves.  Interesting.

Also 60 days to back, so start selling that blood and your extra toys to get the money together because it will probably be closer to $800Cdn.

Pretty nice, and big (32" in diameter).

Lots to breakdown here at a later time.

Just wow, the price is high, but I was afraid it will be higher! I will probably order a set of the o-ring figures, just for the kick. Not sure though, since they are not quite o-ring figure (probably some prototypes).

Very nice thought, very nice!

Soooo tempted by this.  It would make a great diorama set.

Turns out on closer inspection that the 5-packs are "add-ons" to the Mothership campaign and if the Mothership doesn't fund the 5-packs will be cancelled and the money refunded.

Super7 doesn't ship to Canada: Register with a US address and phone number

Give it time.

They usually get international partners who will have it offered direct in country.  Won't be any cheaper per se, but at least you won't have to deal with extra shipping from the US and exchange rates.

They used to ship to Canada, but the shipping cost were astronomical. I hope BBTS or other offers them at one point. I would be curious to have one o-ring figure.

And yes, sad to see that the 5-pack won't be made if the mothership is not funded.

This exclusive 5-pack ships separate from the Cobra Mothership vehicle. If the Cobra Mothership vehicle does not get funded, any 5-pack orders will be canceled and refunded.

I don't understand the logic to link the 5-pack to the Mothership. I mean, this could be 2 unlinked projects and the 5-pack been non crowdfunded (just a pre-order).

We are looking into carrying it. Once we get confirmation of allocation, we will post it on our social media sites and store.

Don't think it is going to matter with the pace it is going right now.  I highly doubt this thing will fund.

Just found on BBTS that they have further reduced the price of their complete wave 1 set of Joe ReAction figures.

They were on sale for $100US, but now they have further reduced them to $60US!!!!

$60US for 15 figures is $4US a figure (before taxes, shipping, exchange rate).  However that still works out to probably just under $10Cdn a figure once all is said and done.  Not bad if you are into the ReAction figures.

That's exciting!
A couple points
- My one condition is It better have all the articulation. If it just o-ring but the legs and arms don't bend I would be disappointed. Maybe they mentioned that in the video and i just missed it. Its always loud in my house.
- Price is still high but better then $50 that most vintage 3 3/4 are going for nowadays and hopefully i can actually play with these things.
- I think I will be very select as the wife keeps "suggesting" I clear out my old stuff because she needs more storage space.
- If its sunbow style though I'll pass. While I enjoyed the cartoon as a kid, once I read the comics there was no going back. Never watched the DIC series but it looks even worse.
- would love to see troop builder sets and diorama sets.

Well it's over, and it didn't fund.

I can't find the final number on the page for the Cobra Mothership, so I don't know what the final number was, but it didn't fund.

I hope Super7 takes this to heart for future releases and takes it into consideration when pricing whatever other vehicles/playsets they have planned for O-ring.

That is unfortunate, but it was priced to high for me.  $100 less it would have been a no brainer.

Unfortunate, indeed, but it was priced too high, especially for international customer like us :). They might have a serious talk about the future of the gi joe brand. Hopefully, the oring will be released as single figure and they will be successful. I would not mind a smaller mothership, the size of a millenium falcon.

Anyhow, I got all the navy figures variation they released and they are fantastic. They are manning my battle platform and they are awesome next to the shark.
