General Joe Talk / 2010 Convention Canadian Cobra Moray ?
« on: January 05, 2013, 10:14:24 PM »
Anyone ever hear about this one?  It was a custom Moray from the 2010 convention that was apparently a door prize?  First time I am hearing about this.....does anyone know anything?  It is on E-Bay now...link is below.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting.

Zap is actually a cool figure, though I'm a purist and he would not be my Zap.  But, I would change the head and put him in the collection for sure.

Budo is awful, awful.  It's not Budo, it is a lazy (and the Rock means lazy) kitbash of Storm Shadow and various ninja parts.  Really lazy kitbash.  I picked up the Krexx Budo sculpt on Angelforge and that looks great.  That's Budo!!

The new Black Ice is one of my favorite figures.  Period.  He is proudly on display in my curio with all my 25th, RoC, PoC and other Canadian sets.  He is just so evil looking.

If you really think about it, most factory Cobras are not that evil looking.  Truth.

Thanks, Sundance.  I actually had no idea.  It is funny b/c I literally live right next door to the Chrysler Building....you could toss a pebble and hit it.  I think it is a pretty cool building, but I did not know it was part of Joe lore.

I did some searching tonight and it was part of the ARAH series from the 80s and was picked up again recently in the reboot.

Who knew I lived right next to a GI Joe base.

Growing up in the 1980s, I actually lived about 40 minutes away from Fort Wadsworth.  My father was in the Navy and we would occasionally go to the Navy Exchange in Fort Hamilton, which was basically just across the river.  I remember telling him the Joes were in the PIT across the water, but I don't think he believed me...little did he know :)

Thanks....I actually picked that up last year, but have not read it yet.  It is actually a very cool issue for me b/c it combines (1) animal companions, and (2) NYC.  I live in Manhattan literally right next to the Chrysler building, so any GI Joe comic based in NYC is extra cool.  Any GI Joe comic showing the Chrysler is even better.

I think there was a Special Mission in NYC and a more recent one, as well, which pictured the Chrysler building.  Though I'm not entirely sure.

I am a sucker for the animal companion.

I'd like to get the Urzor bear, but I don't think I'll be able to find one.  I did some searching on-line, but no luck.  Granted there are better bears, but he is a small scale, so that sort of works.  Plus, I mean, it's a bear.

Out of curiosity, I went back and looked at the Estraela offering.  They really had some crazy animals....bear, lion, tiger, and kangaroo.  Talk about over the top.

I found an article yesterday on google....it was GI Joe:  When animals attack and it was a good read.

get hold of Urzor's bear from Brazil and remould it in white?

When I was typing that, I thought to myself that there were probably some crazy Brazilian Polar Bear out there......turns out I was right :)

Hey, any plans in the works to do an Internet figure too, as mentioned as a potential project at the Con??  That would be a win.

I still think someone in the mythos needs a proper animal companion....maybe a polar bear :)  That has never been done, I don't think.

Everything is in place for a Cobra Manta to be done.
But, I'm a little pre-occupied right now. ;)

I would think / hope we'll have some news in the new year at the latest.

That's great....sounds like it will be awesome.   Where did you find 50 or 100 of them?  That is not a recent product.

I remember sending away for the Manta in 1984 and waiting the obligatory 8 - 10 weeks (remember those pre-Amazon days?).  When it finally came, I thought it was the greatest thing ever.

Mail - in exclusives from back in the day where the greatest.  For some reason, I can pretty much remember them all, going back to Bossk from Star Wars in 1980 in 1980.

Anyway, I digress.  I think the Manta will be a great addition and like it as a sort of hat tip to the "mail away offers" from yesteryear.

I left the convention early so I did not get to hear the panel.  Of course, I downloaded the WOJM podcast and was able to hear it yesterday.

The Mantis release (Mantis, right ?) sounds like a great idea.

Is that going to happen?  Any plans to do a Cobra North AND Joe version, like was contemplated on the podcast ?

That would be awsome.

Eric
