Jon S. and Pete The Greek.

I don't want to go into why I'm handing over the site to these two fine folks. Just know that I personally think it will be in great hands with them at the helm.

I will say that I 100% trust them with the future of JoeCanuck.com, and that in the last 10+ years that I've known them, they've been nothing but courteous, honest, and all around great with me.

I had multiple people contact me about this site, and in all honesty, I was about to sell the site and the board to a current member until Jon and Pete said they wanted it. So, free of charge, I tossed them the keys, and it's now in their hands.

In the upcoming weeks, the site may be down again while it gets moved to a hosting company they're more comfortable with, or while they make changes to the site.

I'll still be an Admin around here for awhile longer (or forever, if they wish) while the changes take place, but I expect I'll be less active since I won't "have" to check in every day to ensure there's no spam and everything is working alright.

If you have any questions, for myself, Jon, or Pete, please feel free to post them here.
It's been a great 13 years running this place (mostly). Thanks!

Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Official 2014 Canadian Joe Con News
« on: February 04, 2014, 01:41:35 PM »
Let me preface this by saying that I love G.I. Joe.
Seriously. When I was a kid, my Star Wars figures merged into my G.I. Joe world and Han Solo became the co-pilot of the Skystriker w/ Ace. Some of my Masters of the

Universe figures became mutant creations of Cobra, and many times the Joes didn't win against them. As I said, I LOVE G.I. Joe.

Over 10 years ago, I took my money and with the help of a couple of other people, held a gathering for people of G.I. Joe. People came from various parts of the

country the first year, then parts of the world in the years that followed (U.S., Japan, UK, Australia, etc). Even during a time in my life when money was VERY tight

(just bought a house), I went into debt to ensure that you guys had a convention to attend, with guests, and trading cards to give away. You don't do these things if

you're not passionate about something. You do it because you care about the hobby, or in this case, the longevity of the brand of G.I. Joe.

However, it doesn't look like Hasbro does anymore. We're in the 50th Anniversary of the original "Man of Action", and Hasbro has had nothing to show for this year so

far. To a fan of G.I. Joe, this is a swift kick to the nards (Wolfman Style).

Due to actions from another local convention, Hasbro Canada no longer attends any cons in Canada. We had to bend over backwards for them to attend in 2012, knowing

full well that they may never come back to a Canadian Joe Con again.... And they're not.

Last year, the 2013 Canadian Joe Con was put on hiatus due to no product being available for our exclusive sets. NO other reason. Hasbro had nothing to offer us since

they pulled all Movie product to re-release it when Retaliation came out. That made perfect business sense, and that was fine. We looked for alternative avenues to get

items for our Con Set, but prices were either too high, or there wasn't enough in stock via the places we contacted. Why didn't we run one without the exclusives?...

Simple, they pay for the con, the guests, advertising, the comics, etc etc. No exclusives, no con. Simple logic, and nothing else behind it.

This past year (2013), I was told that Hasbro would still be able to help us out with something in 2014. Last week, I was told otherwise. Once again, we're at a point

with no figures to use for our con set. On top of that, the Sheraton Hotel has just informed me that the entire banquet hall section is being re-done this summer,

thus, we lose our date & location. (Which would of been Aug. 1st and 2nd).

In short, that's two years in a row that influences outside of my control have worked against me, and things I thought were confirmed, weren't. So, unfortunately, after 10+ years of sharing our love of this hobby, I am officially declaring the Canadian G.I. Joe Convention done.
Thanks to everyone who made this con as great as it was.

I'm thrilled to of offered a place for fans of G.I. Joe to gather and enjoy their hobby. Most conventions don’t last ten years, nevermind becoming a world-wide known event. It started in a small toyshop in Hamilton, Ontario, and who knows, it may return again at some point. But as of right now, the Canadian Joe Convention is finished.

Thank you again to all involved over the years.

General Joe Talk / Awesome Joe-Related Kickstarter!
« on: October 31, 2013, 11:27:50 AM »
A good friend of JoeCanuck.com and the Canadian Joe Convention has started a Kickstarter... and it's AWESOME.

To check it out and back him with this awesome idea, hit up the link here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/403052518/awesome-by-design-print-series-troymckiecom

He's helped out with a couple of past CJC items, so it would be awesome if we could help him out as well!

General Joe Talk / G.I. Joe : Retaliation (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
« on: March 27, 2013, 10:10:08 PM »
I just got back from Retaliation, and in my honest opinion, if THIS version of Joe is what we get from on, I'm 100% OK with that. So many references to the comics in this, and some well placed nods to long time JoeFans.

Cobra Commander was very well done in my opinion, and the Snake Eyes / Stormy storyline rocked. THIS is so much better than Rise Of Cobra. ...and they wrap that up quickly to get on with this one.

I honestly plan on seeing it again this weekend, it was that good!

The \'Show\' Room / Store Display
« on: March 26, 2013, 04:07:54 PM »
Yeah, I know this isn't part of "my" collection, but I thought you guys would like to see the newest display item to promote Joe in the store:

It's a high gloss 40" x 27" poster, attached to a foam core board.

Also have this commissioned piece (coloured by the same guy that did the CJC one) above the superhero section.

I "was" going to put it above the transformers section... but it's cooler in the heroes one. ;)

Message Board News / Grunt 4 mpv asked a question, here's the answer.
« on: March 23, 2013, 08:05:39 AM »
No traveller, no newsletter, no CanJoeCon...

In all seriousness, what can we do to build some momentum round these parts?

As I've suggested/asked for years:

Tell friends, other sites, collectors about the site.
Include links to JoeCanuck.com in your signature tag on other sites (I've seen people do this, well done!)
Volunteer to help with the con - on OUR schedule, drop off flyers at your local comic and toy stores, same with toy shows, comic conventions, etc. when we ask for people to help with the sets (painting, etc), spread that call for help around other sites. (We do reward you for this!)
When you DO help, don't hold up production until you get your way. That only gets you fired.
If the newsletter comes back, submit an article.

Keep in mind that you're not helping "me" personally, you're helping interest in G.I. Joe for yourself, and future collectors.

There's plenty, and some do some of it, and we're thankful.

G.I. Joe opens in two weeks. This site should be the main place Canadian Joe fans go to "Talk Joe", but it's not, and frankly I've spent 10 years trying to make it be just that. But without board members joining, recruiting and such, I don't have any urge to keep up things like Travelling Canuck, the Newsletter, etc.  This site wasn't made as a source of income, it was made so Joe fans from Canada could call it home and they could talk, trade, etc with fellow Canuckleheads.

I'd like to see it busier than it is,  but I'm tired of trying to do it all on my own.... At least, that's how it feels.

Ideally, I'd like to have someone post something weekly pertaining to Canadian Joe stuff on the JoeCanuck Facebook group, or twitter. I can't do it all on my own anymore. I'd like the Wiki to come back, and see a more diverse JoeCanuck.com site with Canadian info for collectors.

Some of these are ideas that have been tossed around before, and just were never taken care of for one reason or the other.

I personally have always been thankful for the help some of you board members have given. Your time has been appreciated, and it would be again in the future. You guys just need to decide if you still want a JoeCanuck.com around and what you want from it.

SPONSOR SECTION / PLENTY of Joe Items in latey!!!
« on: February 25, 2013, 02:49:01 PM »
In the last two weeks, the store (located at 118 Ottawa St. In Hamilton, Ontario), has gotten in over 100 loose/complete 25th, ROC, POC, and vintage figures.

Also in was nearly 250 figures for the $2.00 bin (still well over 150 there).

MOC 25th, POC, ROC, and Renegades figures.

Some Exclusives, a bunch of MOC Comic Packs, SDCC items, etc.

Sadly, only some of the vintage has made it online, but all of it is now out in the store!

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Official 2013 CanJoeCon Post
« on: February 16, 2013, 04:03:35 PM »
Hey gang, I know you've all been waiting anxiously for confirmation of this years Canadian Joe Con, unfortunately all I have for you at this time is some bad news. As much as it pains all of the staff here to say this, there will not be a Canadian Joe Con this year. The cost to rent a hall, every hall looked at, increased quite a bit since last year. GI Joe releases were scaled back last year, making the fodder we need for our convention sets too hard (or expensive) to come by. Even if multiple figures in quantities over a hundred became available today, there just isn’t the painting time or volunteers needed to pull a set off by June 29th, the date the con was originally planned for.

Sorry to anyone that took time off work or started making plans for the con. No one is more disappointed by this announcement than us. Hopefully everyone loves the movie and the enthusiasm for GI Joe carries on into next year for the Canadian Joe Con’s return, which, as of right this moment, WILL return in 2014.

There are a few other issues pertaining to this years CJC, but the bulk of it is posted above. A small gathering, much like the original "Joe Meet", may happen, we will post more if that idea becomes a reality.
