The version you bought might have the French language dubbing INCLUDED along with the standard English release.

Best to contact the store and inquire to be sure though.

General Joe Talk / 2006 MC convention: New Orleans
« on: January 08, 2006, 03:29:24 PM »
The NO locale was chosen well in advance of the Katrina hurricane--the reason why it took so long to finalize the arrangements was because the hurricane put doubts into the hotels ability to host the event. Once that was clarified and confirmed the decision was made to continue with NO as the hosting city. Folks that live there say great progress has been made on the cleanup and by the time the convention rolls around any attendees will like not see ANY of the damage, unless they go looking for it.
There's lots to see and do there, and a lot of it has survived the hurricane intact.

There is a lot of knee-jerk reactions and misinformation floating around about the location and the convention event itself. if anyone is interested in going, talk to as many folks as possible who LIVE in that area, as well as travel agents etc to gauge whether or not to make the trip.
My sources say it'll all be just fine.

Not seen the black version--apparently the skinny is that Canada got the purple VARIANT and the regular version is rare here and stateside they got the black version and purple is rare there.
Why that happened is anyone's guess.
The figure is not bad, its the character itself that is boring to me. Ah well, just some filler for the X-men shelf.

Purple version of X-23.
I actually did not want the character, swore up and down I wouldn't buy the character, but when the 50% off discount was offered.......well, that broke me.

I scored Bishop, X-23, and Maestro from ML12 and a ML11 Scarlet Witch for 50% off the whole bunch. Tally came to $41. This was at a small toy store in 100 Mile House BC.

ML 12 is in Canada now?? **mutters a silent curse to Toy Biz**

Now that I'm working and am making money, I just started playing catch up. I'm missing Cyclops and Angel from wave 10, haven't even started on ML 11  :(  Plus I still need to hunt down a few older figs, all of the box sets.

Can't wait till the bankrupcy is absolved so I can try and get my hands on a credit card to order figs I need online (and watch me get turned down when I apply for one anyway).

You'll have to wait a while before you can get a card, even a secured one.
Lenders are now cracking down on newly discharged bankrupts.
I filed about 2.5 years ago and I cannot get lenders to give me the time of day.
Trying now  for a secured card, but its not looking good--might have to wait out the full 7 years.

Off Topic / Marvel showdown

I like the showdown line, but I will not be buying into a whole lot of them.
I want a few from wave 2 and perhaps some from later waves.
Their flimsiness is an issue if play is the aim, but for static display they are okay.
Microman does this scale and degree of articulation much better though.

Ml11 was rushed--there's no doubt about it.
Wurd that seems to be floating around is a now-closed factory in China was crapping out the wave and did a so-so job on it.
Some of the figures are okay, some are not-so-okay.
Wonderman is fine to me, at least my version is ( Add the shades from the X2 Cyclops for a really neat looking Wonderman accessory) and Vengeance is just awful.
Some figures, like Ultron, obviously suffer from last minute design changes--note the head and lack of neck articulation--and some really amateurish paint apps.
The rumour is that a new factory was brought in to make the latest runs ( ML12) and the expectation is that the figures will be much better looking from this point on. Actually, early word is that they are.

Off Topic / McFarlane Toys = broken
« on: November 28, 2005, 07:55:31 PM »
I stay away from Mcfarlane stuff most of the time, usually because of the lack of articulation, but i've also experienced some breakage as well.

Typically they make poor plastic choices in the manufacturing of their stuff, couple with design tolerances that can be spotty.......it usually means some kind of breakage at some point.

They try to push the envelope in terms of what they do ( detail and finesse of parts) but it often bites them back.
I think this is why we seldom see any significant articulation on their stuff anymore.

Introductions / Intro
« on: November 28, 2005, 07:48:37 PM »
Well, here's where I make a proper intro of myself.

I'm Ken Davis, 43 yahren of age, cartoonist, teacher of cartooning and toy collector. Been working in the animation/cartooning biz for over 20 years now, having done most everything under the sun. Comics, illustration, animation, storyboarding, design......even owned a studio for a little while.
I'm currently teaching storyboarding/drawing at the Art Insitute of Vancouver and have a couple of animated shows I've worked on coming out in 2006--Class of the Titans being one.

Toy collecting has been a passion for an equal amount of time, with action figures being the main focus. I've still got a sizable collection of 12" military figures--mostly 21C Hasbro, Dragon and others--head count around 450 or so. I like the lil' joes as well and have slowly accquired quite a bit of the new stuff from the past few years--head count around 200 figures I'd reckon.

Marvel Legends is a current fav of mine to collect. I'm a dear afficionado of things superheroic and the ML line fits my interests to a tee.
I split my time between Vancouver and my home in the BC Cariboo, with my wife , two dogs, cats and horses.

General Joe Talk / I take it you guys did not miss...
« on: November 28, 2005, 12:44:09 PM »
....miss the single carded VvV Joes at Canadian TRU's earlier this fall?

$2.99 a head, looks like the stores got in a case or two of each because......sadly..........they is gone, gone,GONE now.
This was a crazy offering in a ways because 4 of these figures cost the same as any two pack from the previous VvV waves still warming the pegs.

Its been a infernal pity how Hasbro Canada been so timid with the GIJOE brand up here for the past decade. I've exchanged e-mails with Hasbro reps and been told that the retailers are just skittish about the brand--which is weird because Chap mei, Lanard and 21C all had a massive presence at one time or another. In my AoO, occasionally Walmart would have the odd 12" carded offering, sometimes the VvV guys, sometimes the regular 12" molded shirt militray Joes.

If you are into 12" joes, check out any Fields stores--a kind of lower-tier "micro"-Walmart that's benn up here for years. They have 12" Classic Collection Joes in windowed coffin boxes. Basic set, figure--molded shirt, belt, weapon, helmet and some kind of  solitary belt item. Different services: SAS, Ranger etc.
They are $10 each--which is not a bad deal.

Hey, what's up? How did you find our cove of Canadianism?

I've actually browsed the forums once or twice before, but have never registered.

The Toy Traders images were posted in another forum I frequent and caught my eye. When I learned that the store in question was in my AoO and the forum was for Canuck joeheads I decided this was the time to chime in.
