Yearly CanJoeCon Discussion / Re: CanJoe Con vs. Free Comic Day

Consider this. Where will you have more fun? Standing in line to get free comics that usually aren't that great - or standing in line for the Canadian G.I. Joe Convention where you're sure to have a blast!

Plus, it will be MUCH easier and cheaper to buy those free comics later if you "really" want them than it would be the Con set. ;-)

Quiet you!!!  No logic allowed here!!!

Go for the free comics, of course!!!

The exclusives really aren't all that this year and you'll enjoy the comics much more.

G.I. Joe has very little to do with why they haven't shipped here.

You can't get ANYTHING from the HTS site up here. Period.

I would LOVE to order things from there. But I don't because I refuse to pay double shipping - one to a U.S. friend, the other to me from him. It's pathetic. I'm done asking Hasbro about this as they obviously don't care enough to want our money.

You would think with the recession being what it is in the U.S. right now they would welcome outside money from another country.

THANK YOU!!!!  I highlighted my exact sentiments.

I've been very vocal about not wasting our time with HTS questions anymore.

As for what to ask....let me think about it.

General Joe Talk / Re: Shipping Joes to USA via Canada Post...
« on: April 08, 2009, 05:14:13 PM »
A couple of things in regards to shipping/Ebay.

1) The USPS recently changed it's shipping prices and went with a similar system as Canada.  Meaning they now charge based on weight/dimensions and don't have the same flat rate as they used to.  The smaller packages do still come in at set rates, but regular packages don't.  So in time the US residents will be seeing similar rates to us for shipping.  Which is actually worse for us.

2) If you are using Ebay, try and get the exact dimensions/weight of the package.  You can put those into their calculator.  That way anyone interested can check the cost of shipping and it automatically gets put into the invoice.  It is calculated using Canadpost rates and you don't have to get quotes or explain pricing to anyone anymore.  I started doing this a few months ago and can't begin to say how much better it makes selling on Ebay.

3) Paypal fees/handling fees.  I personally don't like them, but they are a fact of doing business on Ebay now.  I don't charge extra for them unless it has to be done.  That usually only happens when special packaging is needed (post tubes, specialty envelopes/boxes).  However, if the person is upfront about the extra charge, then I don't see a problem.  You have the choice then to buy or not, but if they try to add it after the fact, then that is just scamming.

what was the costco price.  I let my membership slide as it was a pain in the but to get to one since we moved.

I believe the costco price originally was somewhere in the range of $130-$150, but I'm not 100% sure.

Hey everyone.  I have a couple of auctions going on right now.

The one Joe related item is a custom I did last year.  Take a look, and if you have a question just ask.

How does Watertown look?

I was there when Princess Diana died and the town had just shut down the military base.

It was a ghost town, with at least 50% of businesses closed down, especially in the downtown.

I haven't been back since and just wondered when I saw your post.

What, no medics?  Even Joes get hurt, once and a while.  Gotta give Doc and Lifeline some love.

I think Doc/Lifeline would be staff at the PIT and not field operatives.

I got to thinking about this as I finished reading the latest issue of the new IDW series.

GI JOE over the years has gone from 1 man to an elite force with varying degrees of staffing.  Each incarnation since 82 has had a core group to start that has varied.  So with IDW's take on the franchise now I thought I would ask what kind of roster/make-up for the team/person would you go with?

After some thought, I came up with a Stargate SG1 make-up.

I would have the GI JOE team made up of small groups of 5(Alpha, Beta, etc) and each group would have a commander.  Each group would then of course report to a General.  It would start out with only 2 teams, but of course it could easily expand as needed.

For me it would be Joe Colton as the General.  Sorry Hawk, but you don't appear in my version.  A nod to the original has to be made.

Alpha team would be Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Shipwreck & Roadblock (NO HEAVY DUTY, EVER!!!).  These are the big boys who have been together for some time and work well together.  Once Beta team was activated, it became a rivalary between the 2 teams.  Everyone is friendly and has no problems working together, but Beta wants to be top dog and don't hide that.  Of course for big missions, everyone can come together.

Beta team would be Flint, Jinx, Stalker, Mainframe & Gung-Ho.

Yes, each team has a some "stereotypes" or "staples" of the JOE mythos, but I had to go with what I know and feel.

The team has air support from Wild Bill and Ace.  However they are there for everyone, and only rarely would take part in an operation outside of air support.

I already have a third team lined up, but I wouldn't introduce them until the second season of a series or after 12 issues of a comic.  That team would be:

Beach Head, Tunnel Rat, Lady Jaye, Spirit & Bazooka.

So, anyone else have no life, like me, and spent way too much time making up a scenario?

Saw these at Walmart (Pharmacy/Eglinton) today.

I concur with others that these are "meh."

Not really impressed by them, but they may end up being great figures in the long run.

Just remember that this is 3 completely new figures (granted 2 copies), and $25 is about $8 a figure.  That falls in line with single carded figures.

Not saying that it is a good thing, just remember it isn't completely out of range.

Sorry, but I think you are lying!!!

So prove me wrong and show me the last two!!! ;D ;D ;D
