Nevermind the TF Rattler and PP Conquest, it'd be nice to see the first-run exclusives up here.  They've had a year on shelves state-side - I say that after a year, exclusives should no longer be "exclusive" and should see a wide release.

Actually they're usually only exclusive in the US, so Target exclusives are available to Canadian retailers from day one. For example, Zellers carried some target exclusive star wars stuff a while back, and TRU even brought in target exclusive snowspeeders (target sticker and all). In this case it seems Canadian retailers up here just passed on them.

Dang!  But then there's hope...  Maybe when some of the Wave 1 vehicles stop clogging shelves, they'll order some of the "exclusives"

Yeah, that isn't going to happen.  The only way they are going to order exclusives is if the movie product does well.  Before the first TF movie, you had the odd exclusive find it's way to Canada, after the movie almost every exclusive has come to Canada for TFs.  GI JOE needs that same result for things to change up here.

With the complete over order of wave 1 vehicles, and the stupid case make up we aren't going to see much in the lead up to the movie.

Ontario / Re: Silver snail sale
« on: March 14, 2009, 01:23:50 PM »
Yeah I wouldn't bother with Silver Snail for now.

I went by today and they didn't have anything on sale, and the 25th selection has really dried up.  Unless you want wave 10 or earlier (mostly on Cdn cards).  They had the desert set, SHARC, HISS, Armadillo/Chariot and all the older comic packs.  The newest things they had were the new 5 packs and the CC/Gung-ho comic packs wave.

Shock of shocks about the HTS question.

Can we NOW please stop with this question for future sessions?  If they had given us a solid answer about their future actions to try and resolve this issue I would be all for asking again, but it is clear that it is an after thought and we should stop wasting a question.

Good to hear about later waves.  ALthough with the sheer amount of wave 1 stuff it may not be as great as we had hoped.  However it was nice to see a concrete answer rather than some nebulous one.

On another board they got an answer about the wave 5 vehicles:

"There is a chance that these will make it to shelves before the movie in large retailers, it is based on each retailer and their inventory of vehicles.  They will be available online for sure."

So these might make it to chains depending on whether there is interest.  It was worded a little strange, making it seem like these could have been released after the movie as well.  So go buy extra vehicles to clear space!!!  ;D

I bought some more for customizing projects.

Silver Surfer:
Not crazy about the mould.  The abs are a little TOO ripped, and the head looks... off somehow.  Maybe it's the proportions and/or the face.
The paint is, like Iron Man, really great.  A nice silver that looks shiny, not just flat.  There are some highlights in white, I think.
The board is sculpted in a flat grey, but since the Surfer's ankles aren't ball-jointed, he can't stand on both pegs at the same time.  At least the board is nice and large.

The Punisher:
Mould isn't anything to phone home over.  Waist articulation, but no "ab-crunch" joint.  Hands are really bad, can't hold his weapons.  The head is awful.  The jaw is so huge that it's too big to even make a Bruce Campbell custom out of.
Paint isn't too bad.  The black is broken up by blue highlights, and the white parts have a wash in some areas to bring out detail.
The belt needs to be cut to be removed.  It doesn't have a clip closure like the Joe belts do.
The weapons are nice, except for a) the ridiculous grey launcher thing [WTF is this supposed to be??], b) he can't hold his MP5 properly with both hands, and even with one hand, the stock will be bent out of shape, and c) he pretty much can't use his left hand for holding any of his guns.

Also, at my TRU, the price on the pegs is $10.99 a figure, but they scan at $8.97.  Awesome!

I just wanted to say that you can get Silver Surfer to stand on both pegs at the same time.  He is doing that right now with no problem.  As for his paint app, it kind of comes off as a sort of silver pearl to give him that sheen.

Right now I have all of wave 1, except for Bullseye, and I can honestly say the Silver Surfer is my favourite figure from that wave (Sorry IM & Spidey).  A nice basic figure with good articulation, an accurate likeness and a great accessory!!

General Joe Talk / Re: are these legit prototypes?

Well from the looks of it we have the following:

1) Movie repaint of the Firebat for the Joes (notice the "extras").  That blue is a nice colour, hope it stays.

2) "FLAK" is actually the Whirlwind, and the figure looks like it could be Recondo but can't really be sure.

3) Movie gunship w/Firefly

4) Sting Raider from the early 2000s.  Looks like the same colours as well.  Interesting to see what, if anything, becomes of this one.  Probably movie related.

5) No idea.  If it was the Mirage, then I could understand, but it looks like a completely new mold and in my opinion not a good mold.

Killjoy,

I like your suggestion for the HTS scenario.

In response to the exclusives.  I believe, but don't quote me, that Hasbro starts out with a general offer for items and if there isn't interest then it goes to specific retailers with incentives to carry the item.

While I can understand the thought process Mike, I can't agree with the conclusion.

Most of these boards have asked this question multiple times.  It is the same answer every time.  It won't change this time either.  I feel that especially if we only have 3 questions this time that we don't waste one on the same question.

Well since we have only a few questions.  I want to clear up some things and put forward some of my own.

* - PLEASE STOP with the HTS questions.  It is a waste of a question (sorry akpayne), and we have asked enough now that most of us should know by now that the answer is still "we are hoping soon."

* - Yojoeyo.  Hasbro has already stated that they will include Canadians in all future mail away promotions.  The Doc mail away was the only exception.  Look at SW and Indiana Jones.  Both of their mail aways were available to Canadians.

* - The US exclusvies still tend to be based on retailers wanting them (Zellers, TRU).  It seems that the 25th line just isn't strong enough to warrant large interest up here (from retailers).  I can hope, but I think we already have been told it is up to the retailers and how well the line does.  If we are lucky then the movie will increase interest/sales and make it more likely to get exclusives.

I'll give a +1 to Canucklehead's question.

As for my questions:

1) Are there plans for another mail away figure?  If so will it be tied into the movie or 25th?

2) Planning is generally 12-18 months out for a line.  If that is the case, what are the plans for the 25th  line/Resolute after the movie push?  Are there currently plans to continue the 25th line as strong as before, or is there a wait and see what the movie does mentality?

3) Can you give us any information on the wave 5 vehicles?  Since they are now apparently being resolicited are they going to be "online" only, or has a retailer tenatively signed on?

General Joe Talk / Re: Wave 2 2009 Vehicles Cancelled.

The whole "only large orders from Asia" thing seems a little shady to me.

It's like BBTS is trying to get you to by with a "LIMITED TIME ONLY!!!" quip.

The reality is that only large orders ever get processed.  Small etailers tend to get their supply through middle men like Entertainment Earth.  Large companies (TRU, Walmart) go through Hasbro.  BBTS is probably one of the only, if not only, etailer that orders in large quantities to justify shipping to them directly.

It seems to me like it is a bit disingenuous to put that kind of thing in to scare up some extra orders, when they likely have no more knowledge about who is going to order these than anyone else.  Unless they have contacts in TRU, Target, etc.

Also, if they do end up as "online only" exclusives then I imagine they will be pretty readily available.

General Joe Talk / Re: Speculation about Movie toy pricing?

Actually Pete I was guessig on the Canadian prices.  I knew the US prices already from other sites.

General Joe Talk / Re: Toy Fair '09: 25th 3/4 figures in seven figure packs
« on: February 16, 2009, 09:26:50 PM »
Think of it in terms of Transformers.  The Classics ended during the movie releases, then after the movie buzz died down the Classics returned.  Along with the Animated stuff.

GI JOE doesn't really have much outside of the 25th.  Except for Resolute, which is untested, and now the cartoon is pushed back until after the movie as well.

So I have no doubt that we will see a bunch of 25th product after the movie buzz dies down.  My only concern is how much the movie will hurt the 25th line if it does poorly.  I doubt retailers will be as willing to carry the 25th line if the movie line tanks, since most of them see it all as GI JOE product.

General Joe Talk / Speculation about Movie toy pricing?
« on: February 13, 2009, 11:14:27 PM »
Just wondering what everyone is thinking about movie toys and pricing for us lucky Canadians?  These are all guesses by me, so don't take them as any informed opinion.

Basic Figures/12":  Should be the same as always up here.

Vehicles:  Ok, we have a couple of price points.

CLASS A: $16US. $20(maybe) CDN for a single small vehicle & figure?  Is that worth it to you?  Maybe we get lucky and they stay at the same price as the US market.

CLASS B: $25US.  $30 CDN.  I think it is a safe bet that if these are $25 in the US we will see at least a $5 markup.

NIGHT RAVEN:  This is going to be $40 US.  So I figure at least $50 up here.

PIT:  $99.99 in the US and probably the same here at Walmart.  I'm basing this off the AT-TE from last year.
