Picked up the Cobra set since there were only 2 left and about 6 of the Joe set.  Overall pretty good.

Thankfully TRU has gotten the DCIH 3 packs.  Picked up Hawkman & warriors for $20!!!  Considering the singles are $10.99 it is a hell of a deal.

As I said elsewhere.  Pricing is going up, up and away!!!

I think there will be a bunch of duds in the line.  The biggest one will be that Supreme DUKE in accelerator suit.  That thing will sit on shelves.

General Joe Talk / Re: More Movie Toys revealed - Including the PIT!
« on: February 11, 2009, 06:16:36 PM »
The PIT looks ok, but I want to see better pictures before making a decision.  I still would have preferred a stationary base.

The NIGHT RAVEN looks even better!!!  The picture with the guys hands gives a better sense of scale.  It looks like it will be on par with the Rattler/Conquest.  So not as big as the original, but not as small as others were making it out to be.

The SCARAB is now the STEEL CRUSHER A.P.V. ??

Quote from: "ARROW"

This is what I was dreading.

Re-purposed , badly under-scaled, or just plain oddly assigned vehicles.

I have the "Ice Dagger"--I have a much better looking version of it in the Ice Saber. Zero incentive to get this re-hash.

Night Raven.  Design is okay, but its VERY small. Its clearly intended to be derivative of the original toy design, but its missing the mark is size. What it says to me is the toy line is going cheap because there's not a lot of faith in the brand--despite the movie.

The "Hummer".  This one is wrong on so many levels for me. The biggest one is that its "conventional". The movie might be setting different ground rules in design aesthetics, but throughout the toyline's history COBRA has embraced the unconventional in terms of design.
A "normal" looking 4 wheeler is prosaic for COBRA. If the thing has 7 wheels, with one in the center-line back, then it would look "COBRA-weird" enough. It would reflect the maverick weapon design philosophies of Destro and be visually distinct from vehicles that GIJOE uses.
This ain't that.

The Rockslide. The only "good" design in the bunch. This is an example of doing something with nothing. How do you make a snow mobile cool? You sleek it up on the nose, add weapon hard-points on the ski struts, and give it a camouflage  paint job.
But as a toy......it misses the mark. it looks cheap. Solid cast parts like the tread assembly always says " cut corners for cost"--especially when they are unpainted plastic.
Its more of the same, and not enough of what it could be.
I was hoping for something a bit more daring, a bit more involved and a bit different.
This isn't it.

I usually agree with you on things arrow, but I think you are wrong here on many things.

1) Night Raven:  It's small because Hasbro doesn't have faith in large vehicles anymore.  As well, if the Night Raven isn't featured heavily in the movie, then parents/kids won't be willing to pay a lot for something that is barely remembered.  The best example is the AT-TE from Star Wars.  It probably did sell well, and was featured heavily, but it still had leftovers that went on sale for less than half.  The movie isn't going to be another Star Wars, especially with retailers, so they won't be as willing to bank on a large vehicle.  Especially since it is now known that there is a PIT coming (at $100).

2) Scarab.  This vehicle is in one of the big chase scenes, and while the rest of the vehicle line up looks futuristic, when trying to get around a city, you can't really draw too much attention to yourself.  A crazy design will do that, this doesn't.  Overall I get it that it is a personal choice for you, but I think this is one of the best designs so far.  I always preferred the more realistic/semi-realistic vehicles over the crazy designs.

3) The snow vehicles.  I agree with you on the Ice Dagger/Sabre.  However I find the Rockslide a design mess.  From the picture of the movie version to this toy one, I feel it comes off as someone just adding a long windshield and going "TA-DA!" future snowmobile.  It just doesn't work for me.  However, knowing my luck it will feature in the coolest part of the movie and I will love it afterwards.

So for me, the best things shown so far are the Night Raven and Motor Viper.  The Stratoviper looks like the 25th version, so I will use the original colours version.  The Motor Viper is begging to take over my old STUN.

That Night Raven is all kinds of sweet.  Just enough of the original look with updates.

The Scarab (Hummer) looks even better than the picture in Toyfare.  Also that is a great new Motor Viper mold.  So we probably will be seeing it in the future of the 25th line.

The 2 snow vehicles are easy passes.

You could always try a local guy like me

A lot of my 25th figures are from 9.99 to 15.99 depending on the figure and the vehicles are cheap starting at 14.99

Check out my Sign line for the line to my site or check the main page for my sponsor link

SHILL!!!!   ;D

I would also suggest Hal.  I have used him for most of my 25th Joe purchases (especially US cards) this past year.

General Joe Talk / GI JOE: The Rise of Cobra Trailer.
« on: January 31, 2009, 03:32:18 PM »
Just a quick heads up.  www.comingsoon.net has the ad for tomorrow's Superbowl online.  I had to download the file and play it since it would load for me on the site.

Well, at first I was patient and hopeful.  Then until watching this I was worried, and a little scared.  Now, I am somewhat hopeful again.  It looks to me like the Baroness, Destro, SE and SS are going to be the stand outs of the movie.  It also looks pretty sweet on the action front, but I can see this being too over the top for most people.

From just this one trailer I am going to go out on a limb and say Eccelston as Destro will be the scene stealer (in a good way).

This is going to be a fail for Hasbro.

I'm not saying that out of some hope (I'm a completeist for 25th), but rather, that the reaction has been overwhlemingly "MEH" from the boards.

First, they are mostly just reissues with what appear to be cosmetic changes.  Some, like Flint & Viper are actually the most accurate/perfect rendition of the character to date.  So great, but the majority are just updates with no real sense of change to the toy.  Yes they have different body parts in some cases, and yes they were voted on by us.  However, we were told they would have new/different decos and in most cases those decos are minor changes that really don't improve the figure to a point where they are a "must have."  Oh, and don't get me started on those god awful stands.  That colour is awful.  There are many different subgroups that could have had new members added through repaints, or new groups entirely (Night Force, Night Watch CG, etc.)

Second, packaging.  I will hold off a bit until we get shots of the back of the boxes, the excess packaging is nice, but a waste.  I think that it was good idea in theory, but in practice it falls short.

Third, PRICE!!!  OUCH!!  So it looks like we are talking about what, $11 US each figure.  If you buy a case.  Are sites going to be willing to break up cases to sell individual figures?  What price then?  How many of us up here are willing to spend approximately $14-$16 each?

Overall it seemed like a nice idea at the time, but the length of time to execute this has severely hurt the prospects of this being a good seller.  Every figure has already had at least 2 releases already in some form, and most are not different enough to warrant the extra expense.  Also, the character selection, while chosen by us, is fairly weak now after 6 months of new releases.

Thank you Hasbro (honestly) for this, but I think I now better understand why these kind of situations are not really worth doing for large companies.

I saw the pic of the Viper for this line.

Not a promising look.  It was pretty much the new "Chrome" Viper from the boxset in fancy gold packaging surrounding the usual card.  It also will apparently be more than $10 US becuase of it.

There needs to be some new or interesting paint schemes, otherwise this line will stagnate like the VOTC line in SW.

Ontario / New Walmart at Hwy 27 & 7. Amazing deals (non-joe)
« on: January 24, 2009, 07:46:55 PM »
Well someone mentioned that a new Walmart opened up just north of Hwy 27 & 7.  It apparently had some really good deals on toys so I went and checked it out myself.  WOW!!!  This place just opened on Saturday Jan. 17th.

Here are some of the highlights:

12" Iron Man (Movie) with armour add-ons.  $9.94 (reg. $35) Probably about 50 of them when I went on Fri.
Marvel Legends, Hercules wave & Black Knight wave $5 each.  easily 100 between the 2 waves.
Indy vehicles $5 each  2 stacks in different locations.  Probably about 100 total
Hulk movie figs $4 each  easily 100.  Included the grey hulk, bi-beast wave.
Hulk Buster Hummer $10 each.  30 or more
Batman Batmobile (movie) $10.  20 at least.

Let's also not forget that this will be based on the movie PIT.  So whatever it ends up looking like on film, is likely how it will look in toy form.

And based on the size of the Pit talked about in interviews for the movie, the toy will be nowhere close to proper scale. It would take the better part of a house to be in scale with how big it is (apparently) in the film

That's a given with most toys.  Accurate scale for anything (BMF included) would be too cost prohibitive and too large for most people.

I'm just wondering what size it will finally be?  Everyone is talking about the measurements, but they are only for the shipping box, and who knows what it will end up being once everything is put together out of the box.
