Don't forget that many of the figures in the main line were modelled after Hasbro employees.  Not quite the same, but there is a precedent.

The figure looks fine IMHO.  Buy or don't buy.  Money speaks loudest to businessmen.

The original SureFire was created after David Lane to honor him because at the time in Hasbro's eyes he was an uberfan and credit to the collecting community.  David conceived and ran the first official Hasbro sanctioned club and news letter, Steel Brigade.  I still have a couple news letter copies.   To be fair I've met Dave and spoken to him on a number of occasions in person.  He is a true fan, collector and a really nice guy.

I think the issue here isn't about Hasbro's past practices or the use of real people as a model for a figure, it's whether or not a "Club" figure not a mass produced figure is intentionally created to look like a specific person.  In this case Dave.  If the figure didn't have facial hair, it may be a different story.  The perception automatically is what's so special about him when there are several hundred members of the Club (who he in a sense works for) aren't given the opportunity to have a club figure made of them.  It comes across as arrogant and an abuse of position since he is on the creative team.  I don't think that was the intention, at least I hope not.

I like the figure from a figure's stand point controversy aside.

Maybe they should make a contest among the subscribers and the winner would get his/her likeness on a figure on the next subscription line up. Might calm those who are in an uproar about Sure Fire.

Didn't they run a contest for the Steel Brigade guys who came in the six-pack? This kind of stuff has been done before.

Personally I never had an issue with the heads on SureFire and Big Brawler. It would have been preferable to get Shockwave and Outback's heads instead, but there was a reason why we didn't. We were getting a lot of new heads on old figs at the time because a survey had been posted on YoJoe.com and one of the popular ideas was to release frankensteined repaints with new heads to save on costs. (look at Crossfire) Apparently Hasbro was high averse to creating new tooling that resembled action figures conceived in the 80's.

Judging by how well the 25th stuff took off, it's hard to argue with them.

Anyhoo, this SureFire is an (expensive) easter egg. I'm not going to get one, but for the people who think it's neat, I'm glad they're getting the fig. I'm sure the 25th Big Lob I'm eagerly anticipating will get made one of these days.

Word from the club, from their FB page is that the mask for for OTHER figures to wear when they spar with Big Boa. He's a trainer, after all.

All 12 figures. I don't have any idea who the 13th free figure is.

I didn't notice TNT's silver base until that shot. Odd.

So, based on the 12 figures we have and assuming the 13th figure will be in the same vein, what do people think? How many winners do you see? How many winners would it take for you to subscribe? From the time you saw the leaked list to today, how have your impressions changed, what hopes were met, what weren't, what was exceeded?
