Title: GI Joe cards 1986
Post by: sniper on October 18, 2005, 07:55:34 PM
Does anyone collect the 1986 GI Joe cards?  In my travels the '86 cards seem a rarity and I am curious how many people out there collect these.  Myself I only have a few packs worth, nowhere near the full set.

That is about all i have as well. I think I picked these up at my local Becker's back in the trading card days of the late 80's.
But I never completed the set.

I was lucky enough to get this set when they were blowing them out in the mid 80's. I remember the packs being about 50 cents each and I spent 20 bucks to get the set less one card (after 20 bucks blown and still needing one card I was P.O.   ! I finally got the last card I needed for the set about a year ago.

It is a great set only becuse the art from the packages is the best. I always wondered why no one has collected all the art from the packages and made a book of it or something?

A few years ago i bought a sealed box of Joe trading cards for something silly like $5.00. I never did open the box but I would hope that out of the whole box I'd have a full set of cards. As it is, the box sits upright on one of my shelves, still shrink wrapped.

I had that exact same experience ($5 and all), save mine is in a storage container (unopened) instead of on display. It was at a flea market in St. Catahrines.

I also bought a Hurricane for $10 that day. It discolored, and ended up in a bulk bin at BHT.

I agree with Spill, the package art cards was the reason to get this.  I would really love to see more of the package art available some how.  I don't think Hasbro realises (or cares ) that the fans want to see it again.

I don't think we have nearly as many of the clearance places in the west to find half of what our eastern brothers get for good deals.  I remember buying mine at the convenience store.  At least with my Empire STrikes Back cards I had someone to trade with.
