Everyone,
Hasbro Canada has agreed to do an online Q&A, similar to the one Hasbro USA is doing with various online sites.
Please post your questions in this thread, and after a week or so we will have a vote to choose the 5 "best" questions, and they will be submitted to Hasbro Canada.
So, think about what you want to know regarding our favourite Toys in the Great White North, and ask away!
-
Are we limited to one question per Q&A session? (this is a question for you, Stealth, not Hasbro).

See my post above. I'll be sending 5 at a time.

Question for you:
Will this be a one time deal or an ongoing line of communication with Hasbro Canada?
Question for Hasbro:
Why was the 25th Anniversary line available for such a brief time and limited quantities and then suddenly pulled?
When will the 25th Anniversary line return to Canadian retail stores and will the packaging be bi-lingual or English only (US Packaging).
Probably the obvious questions but someone had to ask them! :)
Oh, and a thank you to the staff of JoeCanuck for making this possible!

Will any other stores besides Toys R Us be carrying G.I. Joe here in Canada?
Will Hasbro Canada open an on line store like Hasbro USA? If so, will we be able to order any waves that Canada has missed?
-
Hope I'm not abusing the privilege by posting more than once but here's another question:
Will any of the store exclusives (vehicles/multi-packs) be available in Canadian stores?
-
Would it be possible to get you to use fewer twist ties and elastics in packaging the products? It took me 15 minutes to free a Dragon Hawk from it's box, and that was with a knife and tools!
What product can we expect to see in Canada?
Who do we have to talk to at Canada's TRU and Walmarts to convince them that we need to get more Joe Product on the shelves?
Since you have to do special foreign packaging anyway, will you consider doing country specific "hometown" information to target foreign markets?

Ask all the questions you want! The more questions asked, the better selection we'll have to choose from!

This question was asked by the Star Wars folks and the answer was basically, this is what is required to achieve the dynamic poses (I know that doesn't really apply to the Dragon Hawk) which make the figures stand out on the shelves and will not go away. They threw in the obligatory "we'll look into it" but it seemed like a dead end.
Ask all the questions you want! The more questions asked, the better selection we'll have to choose from!
Thanks, will do!

Can Canada expect any more American Sigma 6 overstock in our stores?
Is it possible Canada gets any vehicles that are exclusive to store we don't have in Canada.
Will we see the return of Canadian flag sticker sheets?
Will any 25th anniversary figures be based on Canadian characters?
-
Will GI Joe products feature bi-lingual packaging so that fans in Quebec won't be left out?
-
This can probably be combined with some of the above questions (as well as condensed, but I have to get this off my chest :) )
Dear Hasbro Canada:
I love G.I. Joe. It was and is the greatest toyline of all time. I have been collecting since 1996 and have purchased my fair share of your G.I. Joe and Transformer products. I'm sure there are many other Canadians like me who have purchased much more. There is a rabid fanbase in Canada! I'll give you an example: I already own the first two 25th boxsets (actually two of each). And yet, as I write this post, I am also looking to get the carded versions of the SAME toys. I also bought 2 of each 25th release that I can find simply so I can display one and open the other. This is outright ridiculous from a financial standpoint. And I know there are some even more insane Joefans who will buy fifty 25th Cobra Soldiers to army build. We do this because we really enjoy the G.I. Joe toys you make.
Why, then, is it so unbelievably difficult to buy G.I. Joe toys in Canada?!? The ONLY time I can recall seeing a full series of Joes available in Canada (other than the original ARAH series) was in 1998, for the second run of TRU exclusives. The 1997 series didn't have the "Stars & Stripes" boxset. The 2000-2002 series was spotty at best, and with folded paper filecards! I don't even remember the last G.I. Joe product I've actually purchased in a non-specialty store here in Canada. Most of my purchases have been eBay, comic shops, from other Joe collectors, or in the US. I understand you might have problems with creating new bilingual packaging. And while I despise the folded paper filecards (part of collecting for me is the packaging as well), I'll take those over no Joe product at all.
Here's my question (finally :o) : Hasbro Canada, can you PLEASE consider offering G.I. Joe toys through a Canadian online store, so that your Canadian Joefans can actually buy the product without too much hassle? I'm not asking for massive retail distribution (although that would be cool to see lots of Joes on the pegs again... ;D ) ...surely an online store is a possibility?
Thank you for your time.
(feel free to condense  )

I think this question is worth quoting. I couldn't find them in any stores in my area.
And if we could get more then just the typical "we're looking into it" response because that's the response they've given before. By now we Canadian fans deserve a yes or no answer and a specific date when it will happen, If you can work that into the question somehow too.
Sorry, I'm done now.

:cobra: yo joe .I like to see more stuff in cananda (25 Anniversary) and not just on line so all collecters can get it. im in a small town and cant get to the biger stores like t.r us we do have a toy store but thay cant get 25 aniversary. so i would like to see it more avable ? Will thare be a game ps2 ds or what ever and will thare be movie fig?. cuz of the movie is coming out? and if so will thare be done by dark horse or hasbro?will there be 3/25 or biger smaller?

Yes there will be movie themed toys, though few details are available at this time. I believe they wanted to have the main line of movie figures in the same design and scale as the 25th anniversary product, but I'm sure there will a few different lines (see Transformers).
There is also a video game planned, I believe EA has the rights to. Someone please correct me if that wrong.

Awesome job Mike and everyone at Joecanuck. What an awesome opportunity.
Will there be any way for Canadian fans to get the exclusive Doc figure through Hasbro, like our American Counterparts?
It would be great if the offer could apply to Canadian fans through Hasbro Canada so we won't have to resort to the secondary market once the promotion is over.
Any chance of Hasbro Canada offering the Doc figure to Canadian fans?
-
Wow great opportunity and excellent questions thus far!
I assume Hasbro Canada would have to make a business case for a lot of these requests. So on that tone?
1. What fan support would be needed to start online purchasing direct from Hasbro Canada, especially for GI Joe products?
2. What are the greatest obstacles to getting GI Joe product into Canadian retailers and how can we help to overcome this?
3. I know this echo's Scramble's question, but this is one of my hopes too. Please can we see some Canadian flag sticker sheets in the near future for vehicles?

Well we found a couple answers today:
Wal~Mart will be carrying the 25th Anniversary Line &
Yes we will have to settle for Bi-Lingual packaging.
So here's a new question:
Will the packaging design be improved over the course of time because this current one is VERY lazy and cheap looking.
-
I want to say something about the new packaging, but I am currently too horrified, shocked and insulted to do so.

Re: Raptor
"Will the current style of cards on the 25th figures available in Canada be the standard, or can we expect something better if sales prove promising?"
Shows our dislike of the cheap packaging without just saying "What the heck's up with the ugly card 'art?"
-
My local Wal-mart toy manager in London said the Hasbro rep said Wal-Mart would not be getting the 25th line!
I went to 3 Targets in the Detriot area and 2 TRUs yesterday - only managed to find most of line 3 (which a guy on eBay scammed me over). Every comic 2 pack peg was empty. I did however find out my plant is closing and was rear ended on I94!

Yes, it may go over better than,
"Are you trying to destroy the line in Canada with that packaging nightmare that makes your product look like a cheap knock off of your own brand?
or
"Was this huge mistake with the packaging a result of a rush to get the goods to market because marketing failed to realize the appeal of the product until it was too late, or merely incompetence and indifference as to maintaining Hasbro's product packaging standards?
or
"With excellent bilingual packaging for most of Hasbro's products in Canada why does the 25th packaging fail to meet even the most basic requirements to promote and sell the products inside."
or
"Are you so confident that the product is good that you deliberately put it in the most unappealing packaging that it was possible to construct in order to prove that the product would sell anyway?

Was a canadian card released?

Sadly this is what we got for the other VvsV stuff too, so I guess I should have expected it.
Still it wouldn't have been impossible to do color stickers to slap on the American card art packaging. It looks like a knock off product.

-
And I think, if I look at this with a cool head, this was just a desperate attempt to get the product into Canadian stores to meet both a request from Hasbro US, and make a business case for selling in Canada. They were likely given a zero budget to do this with, and had to print off the labels themselves.
I should be happy that they were able to get any 25th product on to the shelves at all. It likely took a huge effort just to get a single case into half the Walmarts.
But half of the appeal of this product is the classic packaging. I didn't realize that until they offered me the product without it.

I agree. We should try to ask the question in a way that respectfully voices our distaste for the packaging but at the same time isn't so soft that Hasbro can simply answer, "we needed to make it bi-lingual." The packaging can be bi-lingual AND look sharp.

I?m a little bit off here with that question, but you guys already cover all the possible questions about the 25th ann. Joe availability?
Is there any plan to produce on DVD the season 2 part 2 G.I. Joe cartoons?

I can shed some light on this for you.
Rhino Home Entertainment released the 3 existing sets. Their license to the cartoons expired before releasing Season 2 part 2.
SONY has the rights now. Given their track record, don't expect them to do anything with it. Maybe they'll do a release to cash in on the movie's release - but you can be sure they'll go back and start with Season 1 again.
-
What was the decision or rationale for not including the art on the package? Was this a specific retailers' request?
This new packaging will discourage collectors from buying Canadian and go the American route to obtain the figures. And kids are not going to be drawn to packages like this.
-
Are we going to get the Comic 2-packs?
BTW, even though the toy manager of my local Wal-Mart said they were not getting the 25th figures, I called today looking for DC Classics and the person I spoke to said they had a Shipwreck and Hooded CC left?!?!
-
A couple of new question:
Will any sort of flag/battle points be re-introduced in the future?
What will be the main focus of the line going forward? Comic Packs or Single Packs?
-
Sorry to double post but any idea when the vote will take place and when we can expect answers from Hasbro? Thanks.

We will be setting up a poll to vote on your favourite questions soon. As for Hasbro's responce, I'm not sure. Stealth Viper is the board's middle man and he is out of the country at the moment. Even when we submit the questions, it's up to Hasbro Canada when we get answers. Unless you hear otherwise, assume the March Joe Canuck newsletter (issue #3)

With the Canadian and US dollar at par, will the price of toys also become par?
-
As for the figures going to par with the US, I think we all know the asnwer to that......no - for many different reasons.
My question - Will all of the Original 13 get the 25th Anniversary treatment?

Awww man.
We're supposed to start the voting this week!
Ok. This is locked now. I'll get it set up in a little while.
Damn life getting in the way of things for everyone I guess. ;-)
