Just read about this over on Joecustoms. Key points:
Dallas Tx, June 26-29.
It will be at the Embassy Sweets Frisco
http://embassysuites1.hilton.com/en_US/ (http://embassysuites1.hilton.com/en_US/) ... s/index.do
800 362 2779
or 972 712 7200
JoeCon room rate of $139 (single or double room, includes made to order breakfast and manager's cocktail reception each day.)
I won't be attending that. No way I'm driving and flying down there is too expensive. Without my wife and son coming with me would be selfish of me to spend my families vacation money on something just for me and for only 4 days. Good news is that money I've been saving for the 2008 convention can be reallocated to either the 2009 convention or my 10th anniversary vacation I promised Sheryl years ago. BTW, my 10th anniversary is still 4 1/2 years away but that makes saving up the 5 grand it's going to cost us that much easier. Besides, I think I have plans for that weekend already anyhow.
The other plus is I'm going to let my membership expire and save myself the membership dues. I'll just sign on for the free membership that has no news letter. I'm trying to find the positive angle for myself on this latest announcement.
Good thing Joe Canuck 2008 is going to be awesome this year.

Dallas, just too bad. Too far from here.
The flight cost about 1200$ for me and my wife + the room.
I'm very sad but i must pass on it. Maybe next year.
I will buy the convention set on ebay! :'( :'( :'(
-
Yeah, I'm not going either.
Last year was great, but I just can't justify the cost 2 years in a row

You can order the convention set from MC/GIJCC online even if you don't go. The only draw back is that their is a strong potential that the extra convention exclusives may sell out. Still cheaper to get them off ebay instead of going.
As for Dallas, it's now three straight years and 4 of the last 5 years that the convention has been in the deep south of the USA. Hence, undecided. Dallas doesn't scream tourist destination to me.

Well, I checked my Aeroplan account and my points could cover it... I've just got to see how my work schedule pans out and if the gf is into it... Seeing the pics of the set would help make my decision.
Is the Canadian one comparable in terms of dealers? That's my primary reason to go...
-
Hard to say - mainly because the Canadian one keeps growing! LOL.
However, the Canuck Toy Show DOES have a freebie table. Complete vehicles, figures, etc ALL free.
And it's more local. Heck, you should hit it anyway!
I can say this - I'm almost out of dealer tables so I may have to re-arrange the settings and move some of the events into another room.... which means I'll have to basically book the entire hotel hall and meeting rooms for the day.
-
Almost out of vendor room already? Wow! I still remember the days of the haunted bowling alley.

Man, Joe Canuck needs a photographer and some video camera action.
-
I'm looking forward to the Canadian meet more than the US Con. This may be one JoeCon I'll miss even though I'd like to visit Dallas at some point.

about 10 years ago, I spent 1 week in Dallas during the first part of August.
To say it was HOT, doesn't describe the heat.
The pavement in the parking lot of the Hotel was soft, I am sure it could have been used as a cooking surface.
Late June might not be so bad.

Well it's just a short jaunt up the road for me, so I'll be there for sure. I likely won't be able to make the Canuck trip this year which sucks as I really wanted to go. But I can probably do some exclusive picking upping for the Joe con. :)
