Title: sharing some more pics of my recent arrivals!
Post by: Bandalero on October 09, 2008, 04:49:28 PM
What can I say, these two figures are must-haves for your collection.  You've already read the reviews on Croc (I said CROC!) Master so the bite on his bicep is well documented.  Overall the whole sculpt and attention to detail is fantastic, however with a critical eye: 1) his legs feel a bit spindley considering he's supposed to be large and powerful, to put it into perspective, Mutt's legs look bigger and 2) If you didn't like the mid-torso articulation to begin with, well because of his croc-textured tank top, it's even more glaring in certain poses.

Here's a shot of my Michaels 1:18 scale animal farm crocodile next to the 25th and the original - no contest I say.

Next is Mutt.  Yes Junkyard has his junk but even more so, next to the original Junkyard, this one looks pretty realistic.  Mutt is also a nice sculpt, highly detailed once again and a future look at Resolute/Sigma6/25th Anniversary Duke and Lift-Ticket because I think they all share the same mold.  Now I'm really looking forward to Lift-Ticket and the Skyhawk.

Last pic is for Pete the Greek.  The heads from the original 25th Joes fit rather loosely on these DVD-pack Cobra Trooper necks, but I'm sure wave 11 Cobra Flint will have that corrected so we can all do the Mutt switch and reinact that famous cartoon scene in Pyramid of Darkness when they meet/recruit Shipwreck.

I've always wondered with Croc Master, why a whip? Would they even feel it? Every time I've seen one of those guys from Australia (Steve Irwin or Rob Bredl) who wrestle Crocs etc. they usually have a stick.

I dont know, but the character is pretty sweet.  Here's another pic I snapped of Mutt & Junkyard:

Sweet pics. Croc Master has always been one one my childhood favorites, so to get a great updated 25th version, is awesome.

For the swivel torsos, yeah..a lot of the figs look akward in certain poses.

As for Mutt, does the muzzle stay in place or always fall to the chin?....as for junkyard.....anyone thinking..."for me to poop on!!"

Now that you have pointed it out, I am going to have a hard time looking at Junkyard and not thinking of Triumph!

I really like what they've done with Junkyard, nice detail, and Mutt looks pretty good too. Croc Master, meh, didn't like him as a kid, won't be adding him to my collection now.

the muzzle fits fine on Mutt, I just dropped it to his chin because I wanted to see his 70s John Holmes 'stach for the pics :)

Why is Freddie Mercury wearing Lift-Ticket's costume and walking Triumph the Insult Comic Dog? ;D

That HUGE croc you gave the Master makes him look even more awesome!

Michals is an arts and craft retail chain.  They are all over the place here in Ontario, and I have seen them in the States as well.

I suspect from the USA as Canada hasn't received this wave yet.

I so am giddy about Mutt and Junkyard.  And that is the first time I have used the word giddy in the Joe collecting world.  I should have my Mutt in a couple of weeks from my American buddy.

Croc Master and Mutt are great updates and wins in my book.

Nice pics. The figures look great. And that croc looks awsome. For those thinking of getting one, Michaels usually have 40% of coupons in their flyers. :)

yeah I got these from eBay, and just ordered anothe set to keep MOC from smalljoes today.

The only good thing about these upcoming waves is that there's only a handful of characters I need out of them (no longer need to get the whole wave).  I only wanted Mutt & Junkyard and Croc Master here so it's easier on the wallet.

love getting stuff in the mail and the end of this week was perfect.  Leader class Megatron on Wednesday, Croc Master/Mutt & Junkyard on Thursday, and DVD packs 3 & 4 yesterday!

my 1985 joe shelf:

a MAJOR Major Bludd improvement:

BATs - my weakness:

I just picked up DVD Packs 3 and 4 yesterday in Michigan - I am not as impressed as I was with the first two.  There are a couple of great figures - but there is also wasted plastic.
Dusty - Quick Kick and Serpentor are great.
The Bat could have been better (paint on the claw part & metal bits are not as good as the carded version)

The cube - wtf?
skeleton dude - why do I need this?
Major Bludd/Cobra Commander/Snake Eyes - not really improvements
The Bat's spring loaded missile launcher - spring loaded anything sucks

While I agree that there are some serious duds in these sets (Serpy & Skeleton) I'd have to say that overall we got some vast improvements:

Purple Snake Eyes - cartoon acurate and awesome, just like his card art - my definitive SE
Dusty - didn't like his cloth piece so I took it off, overall the figure is great, only nit-pick would be that I prefer his v1 camo
Major Bludd - how can you say he's not an improvement???  The HISS Driver Torso is perfect, his mechanical arm now has 5 fingers rather than the mutant 3 fingers, and on a personal note I like his cartoon colours much better than his normal brown/black.
yes the BAT should have had some black wash paint apps, but it's still a BAT :)

I guess for me, I actually love the cartoon as a kid so to have cartoon-accurate figures is a huge win.  IMHO sets 3 & 4 blow sets 1 and 2 out of the water.  Sets 1 & 2 had a perfect Lady Jaye and cartoon accurate Destro, that was about it.

Man, now I'm REALLY looking forward to the rest of the DVD sets!

Loving the clear stands you have, by the way.  Where did you get them?

They're protech clear stands, I think originally designed for modern Star Wars figs, but Joes are constructed the same way and work with them too.  You can find em on eBay.
