The hefty pricetag to advertise during the Super Bowl may have scared off major marketers during a down economy, but it hasn?t forced Hollywood to sit on the sidelines.

Nearly every studio will push pics during the big game, airing on NBC Feb. 1, with the movie lineup naturally made up of summer tentpoles whose studios hope to appeal to the nearly 100 U.S. million viewers that tune in to the broadcast.

Confirmed for this year?s roster are high-profile titles like Paramount?s "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," "Star Trek" and "G.I. Joe"

Hopefully, my Steelers are in the Superbowl.  :shifty:  Here go Steelers, here we go.

The problem with Superbowl commericals in Canada is that the Canadian feed (now CTV) will show their own commericals.  Not the American ones.  So unless you have dish with a US feed, some of these commericals will not be shown in Canada.

But I suspect the movie ones will be shown.  Many of the automakers and other businesses are not going to pony up all that coin in this economy, especially when they are laying off people.  I suspect the film industry thinks they are bullet proof from this.

One word, Youtube.

I'm sure the trailer will be plastered all over the site seconds after it airs.

Do any of you guys think the movie will actually be good? I just can't see it.

However, the movie line will probably be a great way to get a lot of cool vehicles. It will take a lot to get me to buy many of the movie versions of any classic characters, but I have my hopes up for new Cobra and Destro soldiers.

I did enjoy the Transformers movie even though it wasn't the mythos I'm use too.  I'm sure it will be an action packed movie with some of the characters done well, but from what I've heard it will fall way short of the Real American Hero continuity.  Meaning GIJoe reinvented again with a splash of past storylines.  I'll still see it but probably will avoid the toys.

Pretty much my take on it as well. I know it won't be "MY" G.I. Joe, and as long as I know that, I should be able to enjoy it on some level.

I have 0 interest in the movie toys though.

Will the movie be good? I really want it to be. However I can't say I like their choices of actors. I am really looking forward to the performance of Cobra Commander. I think that kid will do a good job. Also I'm not sure about the costumes but I said that about Xmen and was proven wrong. I also said some not good things about Optimus Prime until I saw him on screen. So I'll wait and see. I hope they surprise me.

This is the way I see it, the movie will be a huge disappointment for long time Joe fans who are unable to let it go.

- Let it go in terms of hoping the movie will be based on 1980s timeline.  The movie will be set 10 years in the future (from what I have read).

- Let it go in terms of G.I.JOE being only A Real American Hero.   It's going to be an international force to get a more world wide appeal for the G.I.JOE brand.

- Just let it go that this is not the same G.I.JOE that you grew up with, comic or cartoon universe.   Oh the whine I heard from Transformer fans over their movie was mind blowing. The reality is Hollywood always does it's own thing, for better or for worse.

If you can let it go, you may enjoy the movie for what it is.  The G.I.JOE brand is being re-launched to be re-introduced to a new audience and hopefully a new generation of kids.  Unlike Transformers and Star Wars, there is a huge generational gap between people that enjoyed G.I.JOE in the 1980s to now.   Hence, I do not wish for the movie to fail.  If it does, you can sure bet Hasbro will reduce or even stop putting more resources, money and time into a toy brand in this economic uncertainty.

yeah I agree with Pete.
I thought Transformers was gonna suck but it actually wasn't that bad wasn't as great as some of my other friends claimed.  Still Gi Joe seems more like a rental to me.  If someone goes and see it opening night do a little review for me on the board please.

Does every thread that mentions the movie have to turn into a debate about whether the movie will succeed/fail, suck/rock?  :- Aren't there enough threads across the internet made specifically for that topic that threads specifically about commercials, casting, release dates, etc can stay on topic?

Since it's being shown on the Super Bowl, any chance The Fridge will be in it?

I'm kidding.

I will watch the teaser and I will go see the movie.  I skipped Transformers in the theatre but I will see the Joe movie regardless of reviews.

I already promised my wife I wouldn't take her to the movie, so I am thinking I'll just download the movie when it becomes available. Maybe they'll surprise us. The teaser should be interesting to say the least but I reckon it will be very vague.

Knowing what Superbowl ads cost, all I can say is that Paramount must have a lot of faith in the film to spend that kind of money

If you want to get mass appeal, this is the way to do it.

Plus with the Steelers in the superbowl, the TV numbers will go up as Steeler Nation has a huge following.  The last time the Steelers were in the Superbowl, it was the second most watched TV show in the States behind the final episode of "M*A*S*H*.

Like Pete said.  I too hope the movie doesn't fail if only for the reason it may introduce a new generation of kids to GIJoe who may say hey way cool and that brings me right back to when I was a kid and loved discovering new neat stuff.  It may not be our GIJoe, but that's what the 12" 1960's/70's collectors say about us.  Room for everyone.
Besides Transformer sale new and old didn't hurt because of the movie.  Heck they made a second one.

The commerical was never shown on Canadian air waves.

I love when I am right.  When the Steelers play in the Super Bowl, the ratings go through the roof.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs2 ... id=3882060 (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs2008/news/story?id=3882060)

The game on Sunday in the States was the most watched Super Bowl game of all time.  Hence, the GI JOE trailor got the most exposure it could possibly get in one shot.   Even after the game, banner ads for G.I.JOE linking to http://www.gijoemovie.com/ (http://www.gijoemovie.com/) were posted on sites like ESPN.
