More reviews...
and the movie is getting universal approval. Everyone who has seen it really likes it, or outright LOVES it.

I think my favourite quote from any review so far:
And many of the money shots are really violent - heads are pierced, exploded, and chopped off. Hundreds, if not thousands, die (just barely) off screen, while dozens upon dozens of Cobra guys (or I guess proto-Cobra guys, as the terrorist group only becomes Cobra at the end) meet their maker at the hands, bullets, shuriken, blades and other explosives of our heroes. There's not much by way of blood, but Sommers has taken the gloves off and delivered the kind of serious ass-kicking PG-13 movie we haven't seen in a while.
I'll let you know what I think on Tuesday night :D
-
.....as will I. ;D
-
I'm being cautiously optimistic, about this movie. I have no doubt it'll be good and probably one of the more fun movies this summer - but all the trailers and commercials leave me with a nagging doubt in the back of my mind. The same one that was there when I watched Wolverine, the Ang Lee Hulk Movie, Spiderman 3...
BUT... like I say, cautious optimism.
(It's also concerning that any "real" critics haven't been given a screening, yet. Or at least, if they have, that they're not saying anything one way or the other. Seems they're only letting the fan-critics see/say anything about it, so far. Kind of defeats the purpose, when you hand-pick your reviewers... )

Why Tuesday?
-
I've got more of a feeling that I've seen all the best parts of the movie already from all the tv spots showing daily. Hope that isn't so, but I had watched Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and really all the funny parts I had seen on the tv spots. Rest of the movie: not very funny.
For me there a fine line for advertising but I think sometimes you have to leave something for your viewer instead of the usual "oh they must be the scene where...." etc.
-
Why Tuesday?
Advance passes.
-
Where? Are they available for only certain venues?
-
No. They're kinda an "inside" thing. Only Stealth and I are going. As well as the winners from the 2009 Canadian Joe Con.
-
Advanced passes? You're scooping the guy who works at the movie theater? :)
There is a midnight showing on the Thursday. Or rather 12:01am Friday. I'll likely be seeing it then.
-
GI Joe was in all honesty.... Amazing.
I'll type more later, but it was fun the entire way through. Cobra Commander is surprisingly damn good, and I LOVED the little things they put in for old school fans - like Breaker "needing" the Bubble gum and blowing bubbles. :-)
My nephew said on the way home that he liked it more than Transformers - and he wants to be Snake Eyes for Halloween now.
-
We're going to see it Thursday at midnight.
-
It was awesome. The best you could hope for, all thing considered.
I sincerely hope it does very well at the box office because I want more!
-
very good, friday cant come fast enough for me!!!

Heh, ditto.
-
Two questions: Did they say YO JOE anywhere in the movie and do we get to see a hooded Cobra Commander at all?
-
Yes and no
-
Good to hear you guys enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
-
Oh, and when YO JOE is said, it's a very fitting point and not lame at all.
-
I showed my wife an episode of the Sunbow show for the first time the other day and her main complaint was how often they said "Yo Joe!". It never occurred to me that that would be odd to someone, but it is kind of silly isn't it?

Me too. Personally, I always fast-forward the beginning of REVENGE OF COBRA just so that I can skip the part where the Joes say aloud "YO-O-O-JOE! Convoy-GO!"...Sorry guys, even beeing a Joe fan and all, that one line just doesn't do it for me because I find it too cheezy
.

I went to the midnight showing last night. I am pleased to say that I really enjoyed it and I'll likely go again! This time I'll take my brother who can't stay up for Midnight shows because he works early.
I felt the CG and special effects didn't hold up too well but I was enjoying the movies story so much I didn't care in the end. That's right, I enjoyed the story. I should add that I've been a huge Nay sayer since I heard who the director was and then when I heard Wayans was going to be in it. Then when I saw what Cobra Commander was to look like. (I actually still hate what CC looks like but it didn't stop me from enjoying the rest of the story). I am glad all my fears were proven wrong.
-
Just got back from seeing it with a buddy. It's a lot of fun. It felt like G.I. Joe. Made me wanna buy the damn Gunship.
-
... may as well call it CGIJOE.
Not sure what to say other than I am contemplating taking down the Snake-Eyes site.
-
I am in the theatre now. It is sold out. Many people with Joe t shirts on. Lots of people talking about how much they are looking forward to it and what they have read about it.

I see NO reason for you to do that because of a movie that you didn't like.
Wait? DID you see it yet? Or did you just jump on the "I hate the movie without seeing it or giving it a chance" bandwagon? ;D
-
I liked the spin they used for the movie. It had some cheezie moments but all around I liked it.
My favorite part was seeing Stealth Viper set up in the lobby with some of his Joe figs. ;D
near the Movie display
-
And I am still here! C'mon down for the 10:15 show!
-
Just got back from seeing it and I really liked it. Now the question is did you guys pick up on some of the stickers from Joe vehicles that were used in the credits. These were on the big joe shield as it roitated around. I know I saw the Sigma Six logo and a stylized 777.

And I'll be there all day tomorrow. :-)

Slow down. I saw it at 1535 today, even have the ticket. And I wanted to like it but all the film accomplished was make me want to take down my site in fear of being associated with anything to do with the movie but have added a blurb on the homepage in the meantime to distance myself from the film.
I am reserving a possible full review post on my journal/site for a bit until others who want to see it don't get any spoilers.

I am looking forward to taking my three sons to GI JOE ROC on the weekend . They liked the action of both Transformers movies and are looking forward to the action in this movie as well.
There was a GI JOE Sunbow cartoon extravaganza the other night the kids watched to get psyched up for the big movie.
-
It was good (I think this has been said before). Not great but quite good. I too had a feeling of nostalgia in a few scenes of my childhood. Far from all the negative reviews I have heard earlier in promotion of the movie.
It was a nice, simple action romp. I enjoyed the characterization of Duke (with one small issue), Snakes was dead on, and Rip-Cord was fine (Wayans did a good job).
Now, give me Stalker in the sequel!
-
What surprised me most was that before the movie (which I saw at the Drive-In outside of Grand Bend), there were a few guys with GIJoe tees there. Anyone from the board?
-
I really really liked it. It was a fun ride and had a different spin on the Joe history.
I saw nothing wrong with the CGI and would see it again.
Put it this way, after the movie I went over and bought 6 more Joe toys, including Rip Cord which is odd because before the movie I wasn't going to buy him. After the movie he didn't seem so lame and I can see kids wanting him, so I thought I should get one before they are all gone.
I guess the previews really gave the wrong feeling to the movie. I thought the sigma suits were going to kill the film. I was wrong.
-
Guys (and girls), I am glad that most of us like the movie...we really can't get too snooty about a film that represents a children's toy concept that we as grown adults collect.
When I got into collecting in 1996, I never, EVER would have thought I'd see a big budget live-action G.I. Joe film
I thought the film was extremely fun and I was actually on the edge of my seat for a lot of it. I am a HUGE "Real American Hero" fan; watched the entire run of the Sunbow cartoon (even a fair amount of DIC episodes), read all 155 issues of the Marvel run several times and despite knowing how the story "should" go, I have no problems with the changes in Rise of Cobra. Every iteration of G.I. Joe is different to varying degrees. Even Sunbow and Marvel contradicted each other within the same toyline.
Rise of Cobra is a blast, plain and simple - it's gonna be a long 2 years waiting for the next installment!
PS I just got the Assault/Defense of Cobra Island boxsets and they are really awesome!
-
After the mostly-positive reviews here, I'll have to go see this movie and give it a fair shake.
I will not go to see Transformers II though. DVD only.
