First clue is out:
"This might be a history loop...but...something old, something new, something foreign and nothing blue."
Sounds like they might have learned from last years blunder and given us the Red Shadows set (hopefully). Also, Brian Savage made a comment on the MC board saying something along the lines that due to mold problems one of the figures had to be changed 4 times. This pretty much confirms they are going back to the "O" ring style this year.
Might as well start adding the figures are they show up:

Oh, it's a history loop as Savage is still playing these stupid games. Just announce the set.
-
Last year I was pretty excited when I red those clues and when people start guessing that it could be the Red Shadows... in O-Ring format. But, when I saw the remake of the 2002 Crimson set in the new style, I was very disappointed... then mad... then sad... :'(
Last year was my last chance to get my old fashioned o-ring style Joe before it was really over. Now, it start again ::)
Would it be O-Ring or not, would it be a great set or a remake, ... I think I will stop guessing and just wait until I see an official picture :-X.

I think there are legal loopholes prohibiting the Club or Hasbro from using the "classic" Red Shadows. Maybe the Devil's Due reinterpretation, though.

I would love to see a set based on the DD Shadows. It would be interesting to see how that set would be filled out.
-
A red shadows set would be awesome. I too, wish they'd just come out and announce what it's gonna be. I need to know if I need to start saving for it, lol.
-
"This might be a history loop...but...something old, something new, something foreign and nothing blue."
well The shadows are old, but the DD version is newer, definitely a foreign connection and no blue in their outfits. Of course this is mere speculation, and holds as much water as TF fans wondering if the "Lost generation" means G2, transtech or even Go-bots.
But as far as O-rings go, I thought they said that Big Lob would be the last o-ring figure they would be releasing thru the club?
-
I know nothing about Transformers anymore. I don't even know where the TF con is or if info is up about it.

At least O-rings for the sets are coming back.
http://www.gijoecon.com/ri2010/ (http://www.gijoecon.com/ri2010/)
Cobra Interrogator is first on the list. So I highly doubt this would have any thing to do with Red Shadows. I suspect the Plague instead.
-
So far I'm thinking "meh".
I loved the original Interrogator. One of my favorite molds of all time. Hard to improve on it. This version with a Snake Eyes body doesn't blow me away. Lets see the rest of the set.

Morg, thats exactly what i think.

They improve it by giving him a removable helmet. I can't wait to see more!
O-ring 4ever! 8)

-

I think I would rather see a Barbecue with a removable helmet like back in the show, but I don't know if I'd still call it an improvement.
While the original Interrogator had a relatively small head ( but cool enough to use for a custom BAT ), the only improvement that this figure needs is an accurately proportioned head.
I'm hoping that some of the figures will be first-time character renditions like 2007' Claymore (who appeared in The Traitor Gi joe 2 part episodes).
-
I personally don't want Interrogator with a removable helmet.
It removes that whole mystery about the character.
And most likely Fun Publication's idea of what he looks like will not match mine.

100% agree with you Jay.
-
The brochure is now up. First thing I noticed was they now call it the "International G.I. Joe Collectors convention". Was it always called "International" or does this plus our usual convention date mean that Fun Publications is concerend?
Aside from that, the set sounds good. Red Shadows and all that. Anyone from around here going?
-
I'm thinking seriously to going at the convention. I'm very very happy with the Red Shadows Boxset and the convention is only six hours driving from my home.
-
I want a set! Anyone can hook me with the loose bagged set :-* ?
Martin
-
If they had left the date for the convention at the end of June start of July I would have gladly gone to the convention.
The family and I have always wanted to go to Rhode Island and Maine but I would really only go in the summer months.

I'm in the same boat. Work is crazy then(April/May) and no time off. June/July is easier to schedule a few days off. Cool sounding set though unlike last year. They must have been listening to the fans.
-
The first figure is finally revealed: Black Major
http://www.gijoecon.com/ri2010/con10blkmjr-preview.cfm (http://www.gijoecon.com/ri2010/con10blkmjr-preview.cfm)
-
Not bad, but I was hoping for a little more out of this character.
-
Did they use Hardballs body? I heard that they ran into problems with one of the figures and had to change one of the parts 4 times. Hopefully that's the part that caused them problems because honestly, I'm not impressed. I'm hoping the rest of the set is a bit better.
-
It's a nice head and certainly feels like a WWII officer, but 90% black is pretty boring.
I like the whip.
-
erm... are you familiar with the original Black Major?
http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/00 ... index.html (http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/002/redshadows/007/index.html)
-
I find that the original Black major stands out more as a character than his new counterpart....
I'm not impressed either...
-
The second figure is up
http://www.gijoecon.com/ri2010/con10torches-preview.cfm (http://www.gijoecon.com/ri2010/con10torches-preview.cfm)
Red Torches
-
I'm happy they have done the Shadows, yet just disappointed that they aren't in the new style.
Instead of a personal must have, I'll pass on these.
-
The only GIJCC set I don't have is last years, mostly because it was the new style. And considering the club has gone back to o-ring (for at least this year), I can assume that the new style in 2009 failed for GIJCC, regardless if they re-hashed an old convention concept.
Even though they are not perfect, I have no problem with the new style. However, I find it hard to justify playing that much coin for new style figures when other deco versions of the exact figures were sold recently at retail stores for a fraction of the cost. If I am going to pony up that much coin, I might as well get something considered to be rare nowadays in the hobby, which is o-ring figures.
-
Expectations were high last year when most of the people thought we were getting the Red Shadows in o-ring style. Now we are getting them, I have to admit that I like what I'm seeing.
Red torches is a nice addition when The Black Major looks exactly what he is supposed to look. So far, I can't say the Club is making bad choices. Moreover, they are making smart (Red Shadows), coherent (Balck Major) and innovative (Torches) choice.
I can't wait to get my set! ;D

Please keep this attitude and tell everyone! This will keep the price low on the market so I can buy myself a set
Martin
-
Once again, 100% agree with Pete.
-
Please keep this attitude and tell everyone! This will keep the price low on the market so I can buy myself a set
Do you really want me to sabotage its sale by speculating against the new figure ??? I don't need to do that. I'm confident that the ones who will buy it will decide of its fate :).
I'm still optimistic about the rest of the figures look like. I know that not beeing impressed by one figure or two is not a good enough reason not to get the set.
I kind of like the Torch figure, looks interesting, especially the head I haven't seen it anywhere. Were the original red shadows troopers the same red as this one? My only comment is I find it a bit too saturated to the point it's almost flashy on my screen, but perhaps GIJCC is trying to match the original color palette of the vintage figures. Martin-Mtl, knowing that you own the original red shadows figure, what can you tell us about the color?
-
Martin-Mtl, knowing that you own the original red shadows figure, what can you tell us about the color?
It's hard to tell because my computer screen doesn't reflect the real color. The red in the pic I saw looks, like you said, i little bit flashy.
But Cobra troops already have different shade of blue (starting with Cobra commander light blue and darker blue outfit). So I don't really bother with this red .
Martin
-
Blah, Flint is in the set....why?
http://www.gijoecon.com/ri2010/con10vflint-preview.cfm (http://www.gijoecon.com/ri2010/con10vflint-preview.cfm)
-
Flint was never my favorite guy anyway... so I don't have a Wow effect seeing him again.
He comes with Outback's rifle (why?) and the most reuse and repaint backpack ever... again :'(.

I'm with Pete.
And this version of Flint just doesn't strike me. Maybe it's the green straps.
-
I'm a big Flint fan and this figure does nothing for me. Considering the camo patterns the Club has put together in this past, this one really disappoints. As much as I usually dislike that tanned skintone, it looks especially bad this time and with that hair colour.
I was enjoying this set and looking forward to Flint. This is a major strike against it.
-
The overall green design just doesn't work for me. Too much of it at first glance. Either the green on the uniform or the belts have to go. Also, GIJCC bothered to recycle Eco Warrior Flint's body for the new Red Torches, but they didn't bother to use the head, which in my opinion could've made for a great opportunity to give Flint a Berret accessory. I'm not jumping either for the camo pattern they chose , realistic up to a certain extent but without the wow effect.
All of a sudden, I like Black Major a bit more :).
-
that colour's just horrible. urg.
-
I like what i've seen so far but i expect much better for the Red Shadows troopers!
By the way, my registration form is sent and my room is booked. Anyone here is going?

It's just you.
. No seriously, although it may look like what you say from your perspective, If you own the original Red Star figure (from which the legs/torso/waist parts originate from), you'd know that there is no reason to worry.
-
Now this is a figure worthy of its name. Two thumbs up!
-
Really like the Red Shadows soldier.
I have an original but I really like the update - first time I've ever said that!!!
-
In addition to it looking like a diaper, it looks the figure has his pants up really high (aka Steve Urkel style). Still, this figure looks like a winner.
-

Perhaps it's a bullet proof diaper, which would litterally confer balls of steel to Steve Urkel ;D.

the Black Major and the Red Shadow infantry troopers are just perfect, a Red Shadow and Action Force fans dream come true

I agree with you. I would rather have 12 of these guys but if I were Fun Publishing and heard that I would start banging my head off the way.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess.
-
I agree on having 12 Red Shadows in the set. The Red Torches figures would have made more sense as a two-pack.
-
I agree on having 12 Red Shadows in the set. The Red Torches figures would have made more sense as a two-pack.
Totally agree with you on this. Already just for the Red Shadows and Black Major, I find this set worth getting. While the torches are nice additions too, I wish there were just less of them and more Red Shadows.
It's a good thing they're not developping a storyline tied in with the set, involving something like Joes beeing extinct in the future, and General Flag IV resorting to DNA technology to clone 6 Warrant Officier Flints to be able to face the resurfacing Red Shadows menace ;D. Now that would be something I hope never to see...
-
they should've produced 6 Shads and 6 Mutons or Skeletrons or Kraken. not the Torches.
-

For those who need a refresher:
Kraken http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/00 ... index.html (http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/002/redshadows/008/index.html)
Muton http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/00 ... index.html (http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/002/redshadows/009/index.html)
Skeletron http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/00 ... index.html (http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/002/redshadows/015/index.html)
Muton would be my choice, only if his deep sea helmet comes off. Otherwise, Kraken and Skeletron are too weird for my taste.
Skeletron = I suspect this figure was made due to Skeletor from MOTU at this time.
Does anybody think that a Red Snake is going to be made?
-
The Shadows' bodies are awesome, but I'm not feeling those heads.... the original Shadow heads are incredibly narrow and don't look right on Joe bodies. Everything else about them is gorgeous, though.
Pete, by Red Snake, did you mean the Escape Armour, that red redeco of the Cobra SNAKE?
-
Pete, by Red Snake, did you mean the Escape Armour, that red redeco of the Cobra SNAKE?
Yes, that one. They have the new tooling from the new Snake Armour to pull it off. But I hate see how much that would cost.
-
I think the RED TORCHES is a nice new addition to the RED SHADOW ranks , but I do think , that if they sported the original head ( same as the regular infantry troopers ) it would have been more acceptable. In the original comics we would see Divers and such many time, their clothes would be different but the head would either be the same or very close, with only a few variations to them
but in any case Im siked about this set
-
Skeletron = Skeletor + Megatron?

Nope.

Yeah, that's true. I also don't see why the Red Shadows would even need specialized flamethrower troopers... If memory serves, regular Shadows used flamethrowers just fine in the old comics (Jamar or the Baron can correct me on this if I'm wrong).
It is kinda cool that they managed to use the BTR Shadow-Viper head for something, though.
IMO Red Shadow divers with the recasted Shad head on a classic diver body would've been a nicer addition to the set.
-
Can't recall any Flamethrower Shads in the comic... hmmm... Mostly they carried AK47's, even though the toy came with a bazooka.
However, there were tons of artist-created spin offs; Shad divers, Shad canoes, Shad submarines, Space Shads, Shad moonbuggy, Shad moonbase, Shad Helicopters, etc etc
There were also some Cobra designs, particuarly in the finale epic Operation Deep Cover. There's a scene with a Cobra pilot in an A10 Thunderbolt which I believe predates the Rattler.
OK, I'll stop now.
-
Could've sworn I remember one Shadow at some point using a flamethrower... but I'm not sure I want to read through the entire comics archive just to find that single instance...
Curious what the vehicles will be for the set, though.
Will they try to make their own Shadowtrak or just do a red HISS?
-
a Hyena seems inevitable, frankly.
-
There's definitely some flamethrower action featuring Blowtorch, in Operation Shield and Death in the Everglades, possibly more.
As I say, there are plenty of homeomade Shadow troopers in the comic pages, so I wouldn't rule it out, I just can't remember one offhand.
The Shadows had repaints of the SNAKE, HAL and HISS, but really the club can take any vehicle mould and recast it in red...
-
I'm thinking we'll get the Vamp done in action force colours. People have been very vocal about the Hiss tank being over done so I doubt we'll see that one again.
It's almost a shame they used the Hiss V2 a few years back. That would have been cool to see done in red.
Then again, they already re-used the crimson theme and if I suspect they might use the Vamp (again) then it might be possible they use the Hiss V2 one more time. I'd welcome it.
-
well, going off their mangled wedding rhyme clue, I'm expecting it to be a blue vehicle repainted.
something old - 3 3/4in Adventure Team
something new - Flint and Interrogator new versions or the Red Torches
something foreign - Black Major and the Shads
something not blue - ????
what vehicles are blue? STUN? Ferret? ASP? Rattler? HISS? Night Landing?
-
something old does not apply to the adventure team as its not a con exclusive its a club exclusive and the hints were only for the con exclusives
-
something not blue - ????
what vehicles are blue? STUN? Ferret? ASP? Rattler? HISS? Night Landing?
The way I see it is that "something not blue" could actually be a general hint for all the exclusives and not just for a particular item...
That or I'm going with my intuition: a Red Snake armor
-
Not bad of set. The red shadow head kinda looks like Orko to me. Love the use of Beachead's weapon.
-
I love the Red Shadows troopers but ten Red Shadows and two Red Torch in a box would be better. As attendee exclusives, i hope to get a free Escape Armor.
For the vehicles... maybe a Black Panther and a MMS or the Hyena AND THE Laser Exterminator (with his drivers :))
For the 2-3 pack figures, everything will be fine.
Anyway, i will buy all of them. That will be a great year for me. A trip to Gijoe convention and another trip to Canadian convention!
-
We all know who the last figure in the set is. Why are they taking ice age to show Interrogator?
-
its up!!!

I like the interrogator. Looks pretty sweet to me. I bet its Crystal Ball under that helmet

The name "Dr. Mindbender" may have been a last minute addition. At certain early times in G.I.Joe mythos, he was referred to as "Dr. Brainwave" (in Marvel Comics G.I.Joe #44) and also as "The Interrogator" (on the filecard of Serpentor).

Considering the way Savage likes to play these little games to swerve us collectors, it could be Venom or Baron Ironblood (baron = German?) under that silhouette. Heck, it could Savage himself. I just don't get these stupid games he plays.
-
I think it will most likely be Baron IronBlood dressed as the interrogator, he isnt meant to be interrogator but just in his clothes
or thats what I think anyways LOL
-
Dear God, please no... don't even think it!
-
well I guess it would be better than NO IRONBLOOD but I do hope for a proper Baron Iron Blood to be done too
-
No, no, it really wouldn't. I'd rather have no Ironblood, thanks!
I'd be surprised, as they've done the Shads and the Major so faithfully.
-
Considering the Black Major is carrying that the Club called "the sign of leadership in the Red Shadows" (ie that whip), I'm guessing he's not Ironblood since he's not carrying said sign of leadership.
Also, having Interrogator just be Ironblood in disguise would be dull.
But then again, I'm not a fan of Interrogator having a removable helmet, because it removes all the mystique around the character.

Flint looks too confident he can take all the Red Shadows. And his shotgun is not match for those Red Shadow's submachine guns. I'd say he's fried if he's not able to find a bigger tree to hide because he's going to get torched alive if he gives out his position...
And agreed, Flint looks more like Falcon on the art box.
Really Redmao, you think it's an Imperial Bunker repaint in the background? ;D Never thought of that.

Really Redmao, you think it's an Imperial Bunker repaint in the background? ;D Never thought of that.

If it's not this, it's pretty close to it

Your eyes are better than mine, i never saw it!
I realy like the box art but i expected more Red Shadows troopers on the cover....and inside ;D
Can't take all the credit, I didn't notice it till someone else pointed it out either. :p
But yeah, Flint isn't hiding. He's got them right where he wants them.
LOL man, ever since you pointed this out I noticed something else too. Look at the Black Major. Looks to me like he saw through Flint's evil plan...but will he alert Interrogator in time?

"Fugitive" Flint exclusive

I think I like the orange jumpsuit better then the fugly green camo Flint that comes in the box.
-
I'm pretty sure the orange is intended to be evocative of an Adventure Team attire.

I think I like the orange jumpsuit better then the fugly green camo Flint that comes in the box.
"Ditto" Hey Ed want to sell me your Orange Flint?

I think I like the orange jumpsuit better then the fugly green camo Flint that comes in the box.
