If you were attending the Convention, and it were in Toronto - how many of you will stay at the hotel it's at for $100.00 a night? Also - which nights? Friday? Saturday?
Oh, and I should mention that it's the cheapest price I could get for people attending, and it's still $10.00 cheaper than the cheapest hotel in the area.
-
For the 2 hour drive, I'd likely be driving home. Maybe if I could talk my wife into making it our anniversay weekend though....
-
I would crash with friends.
-
I'm only an hour away, so if I can make it this year I will just drive up in the morning.
-
Depends more on finding a sitter than saving $50.
-
id likely just drive, milton is only 20-30 minute drive to toronto.

OK - we're negotiating now. I (we) may be interested after all. Can you get us discount tickets to a live theater show? Make it a group outing even?

My wife would likely do it for you..... :P

Most likely not. BUT, if it helps, Canada's Wonderland is just 20 minutes away - and you could spend the day there on Sunday. :-)
-
I will stay at the Hotel at least two nights, friday and saturday. My wife is comming and we are planning to pass a few days in the Toronto area.

I was never much of a fan of coasters when I was younger and my GI tract seems to like them much less these days.

a) you need a large group and
b) I can't see a bunch of Joe collectors going to the Princess of Wales Theatre for a live theatre show.

Sometimes select hotels have deals with theaters.
And I was thinking more for the tolerant wives who may accompany us. For myself, I counld think of much better uses of a couple hundred bucks that weekend than a show.

Oh, I agree. It will keep the wife happy and her mind off the fact your going to a toy show and spending money there.
Too bad the Sound of Music ended it's run in Toronto. It was a great show.
-
I'be getting in Friday, and staying till Sunday. How much further is Toronto from Hamilton? I'd certainly be interested in a room.

About another 40 minutes east.

If Olyeller says he's coming I can always try to convince my wife to give me a weekend holiday. Then, the man and I can hit some bars together in TO as I know he' love to try them Canadian beer ::)

It might be a little more potent than he is used to.

I RESENT THAT! >:( Unlike most Americans, I do not drink swill such as Bud Light and Miller Light! My personal favorite is my hometown brew, Shiner Bock. Nice and dark. ;D
Ribbing over my hockey preferences and taking away all my Timbits I can handle. Questioning my drinking prowess is another matter entirely. ;D
Too bad I'd have to fly up there and even if I wouldn't I'd be scared of the customs agents confiscating a Mustang trunkfull of Shiner beer I'd bring to share ;D

I thought that might get a rise out of you....
I haven't had a drink in about 3 years or so, but I'd be happy to tip one back with you if you make it to the Con sir!

Same here to both of you. And just for your info Olyeller, my drink goes beyond popular beer. Funny how you put your fascination for Shiner beer...I have this mental picture of you as a Hobbit partying and signing on a 12" high bar countertop and signing how bad Shire Ale rules and how all of em other Busweiser or Labatt beer sucks
-
Back at you LJ22!

Cool, thanks.

So Shiner runs through my veins.
And LJ and pdaat, I am definitely going to see what I can do about making it to the CanJoeCon. No promises, but I'm going to see what I can do. It would be an honor to tip back cold brews with you guys.
-
ill tip back some cold brews also with you guys lol ;D

I might stay Friday night, $100 is really the most reasonable cost for a con hotel that I've ever seen, but bringing the wife with I'm going to have to spend at least one night in Niagara Falls for her sake.
-
I was going to offer a room for people to crash at my place, but $100 to be even closer sounds like a solid deal.
I was never much of a fan of coasters when I was younger and my GI tract seems to like them much less these days.
Who is GI Tract? Is that a foreign exclusive?
-
Gastro-intestinal tract. More robust ones are pretty much foreign to me and exlcusive to younger people :'(
-
I have a stupid question here, last year the exclusive was the HATE tank and it was a limited run of 100 units. How in the world did they get them? Was it a preorder on the website and you just picked it up at the Con? Were they raffled off has a door prize? or was there a booth that someone was selling them? This will be my first Con so I wanted to make sure I did it right.

first 100 people in line got a wristband to get the set, 1 per household.
-
Do people camp out the night before to be first in line? Or can I just leave very early in the morning to make sure I do get disappointed?
-
People get there very, very early. I was about 20 back when I got there last year at 5am.

Yeah I remember it as if it was yesterday. Don't you find it weird that every year we somehow manage to end up one behind the other in the lineup? There are unknown forces at work at the Canadian Joe Cons that I simply cannot explain...
-
Things may change a little this year.
I'll know better once I have some time to sit down and plan things out - but dealers can set up the night before, so I may offer some sets (25-50) to be pre-ordered a week in advance for a Friday night pick up.
Things are going to be much different this year - in a good way if everything goes according to plan.

That is great news! I will have to keep my eyes glued to this site so I can get on the preorder! :shifty: I thought I would have to stoop down to and pay some college student to camp out so I would not miss out!

Let me know when you expect to get there LJ - we can plan it out! Do you have a DSi?
I "heart" preorders. I think it was the other half of the reason I went to my first con (the first being Larry Hama of course).

Hey I'm sure we can plan it out .
I used to have a DS Lite, but parted with it. If I get another DS Lite, will it do? Or must I get a DSi for system compatibility purposes? I still kept my DS games in the case I replace my old system.
-
DSi and DS light are completely compatible. And I was only joking - no one on this board plays the games I do on the DS.
-
Booo! PSP is where it's at.
-
GUYS.
Can we PLEASE get back on the topic at hand here?
Now that you know WHERE and WHEN the con will be taking place (check the newsletter), you must have a better idea about if you'll be staying in Toronto at the Sheraton @ $99.00 a night, or not.
I need to give them an answer so they can set things up on the Sherton hotel site.
So please, just stick to the thread at hand on this ok?
Keep in mind that there 'might' be a pre-order for some of the sets and that they may be able to be picked up the night before. I won't have a decision on that for awhile yet - but you should plan in advance anyway for the Convention.
-
I live just north of T.O. so I will be driving in the morning. I'm hoping to get on the preorders as I'm not a morning person to be there at 5am
-
Sign me up for a room. Great rate. I will be there. I loved standing in line last year! We got in line about 4am, and were still about 25 people back. Good times!
-
Put me down for a room. The pre-orders are a good idea, but I still love being able to sit in line with everyone to chat and hang out. Although...already having the set in hand would make it much easier to walk up and down the line to chat without having to worry about my place in line :P
-
WOO HOO I get to set up the night before no more rushing to set up in the morning plus running to get my set ;D ;D ;D
-
Gastro-intestinal tract. More robust ones are pretty much foreign to me and exlcusive to younger people :'(
I was just kidding. Couldn't resist the "GI" toss.
If it wasn't clear, I won't be staying at any price, nor will my carload. Toronto is just too close.
(And I'll bring my DS!)
-
I would most likely stay for friday and saturday nights if I come, which I'd like to since it would be my first Joe Convention.
-
When is the con this year? I'm going to the Joecon in rhode island this year but if the CanJoeCon is after that then I would love to come. I just need a dang job!

Hoping to go this year, would like to stay Friday and Saturday night.

As a first timer (hopefully) I have a few questions about the Candaian Joe Con. How much did it cost last year for admission? How much was the convention exclusive package? And will the older convention figures ever be available again, or is eBay the only way to get them?
Because knowing is half the battle.

In order:
1. $15.00 w/ attendee badge, lanyard, etc. - expect about the same this year
2. $125.00 Canadian : Most likely will be between $100-$125.00 this year, if all goes well. ;-)
3. Never say never - but not in the original ARAH molds that they were first sold in. Ebay is your new friend if you want them - but expect to pay high amounts for them if you really want them. I think the last JoeCanuck figure I saw on ebay sold for about $700.00 - and that was years ago.
-
There was a special access pass to last year right? Will that be available or is it part of the con set package?
-
Thanks for the info. My son would likely go to the con with me, but my wife and daughter would not be interested. Are there other things to see and do nearby that they might like?

The key word is nearby. There is nothing for a family to due in this part of Toronto. All this area is Pearson airport, a golf course, various hotels and industrial properties. Downtown Toronto to and from here is about 40 minutes on a good day.

Via the 427, it's about 10-15 minutes Pete, I timed it when I was there as I needed to go to the Eaton Centre as well.

Last year there was. It was an additional $5.00 for a VIP admission to cover the extra room that I had to purchase. It was the only way to secure a Con set. This year, all rooms are included, so I should be able to have the one admission fee.

Your wife and daughter could goto Canada's Wonderland.... :-)
As the date get's nearer, I should have a list of things available nearby. I know there is shopping nearby - not exactly sure HOW nearby yet. There's always other events going on at the surrounding hotels and the international centre as well.

I'm in the same boat. My wife and my son (too young for a full day at Con) will come with me. We will stay at the hotel friday and saturday. I have to find some great shopping center not too far from the hotel ???
By the way, thanks guys for the link and tips!

Just a 5 minute drive away from the hotel (according to Google Maps).
If your wives and kids don't have fun there, then somethings wrong. ;-)

Looking forward to the details! :)
