Title: Valerian et Laureline
Post by: martin-montreal on April 22, 2010, 09:54:46 PM
Do you know "Valérian et Laureline"?

For those in Québec using Vidéotron as TV provider, you can listen to this animated show on Illico for free (and without commercial ads!).

It reminds me Albaltor or Capitaine Flamm, but made in 2000... so more actual. It sometime funny and overall well done. The show include space, time travel, humor, etc.

To learn more about the show:

Let me know what you think!

I don't think so. It was made in 2008 in France I think. So we got it here late.

By the way, it is available on Illico (channel 900) and free until Dec. 14, 2010.

Where did you get it? I was looking for Capitaine Flam for years... is it still good? I saw Albator and... I was a little bit disapointed... too slow and repeatitive.

I watched Capitaine Flam and didn't find as great as when I was a kid. Unless you don't mind the silliness of names like "L'Empereur de l'Espace", and technological terms that don't make any sense then you should be able to have fun watching it again.

Repetetive really? I didn't think so. I actually liked rewatching Albator. Yes it's slow I'll give you that, but the mood of this series was very pessimistic for kids of our time, so it only made it more dramatic. I find it as sad as when I used to watch it back then. I couldn't stop feeling sorry for Stelli who's an orphan, and Albator's desperate attempts to protect Earth because he made a promise to his departed best friend even though everyone else thinks he's evil. He saves the planet many times from certain destruction and anarchy, and still everyone gives him crap and the Earth's forces are bent on sinking his spaceship deep into the galaxy. Also, I liked the newly released never before seen final episodes that conclude the series.

Capitaine Flam is still great and kicking.
Sure some names are a bit corny, but I think it's part of the charm.
I think l'Empereur de l'espace was an awesome villain  ;D

Lots of scientific mumbo jumbo and stuff that doesn't make sense, but it's still great.

Plus, the intro, which is the same for all episodes, is kiss ass. True, The episode of L'Empereur de l'Espace was still very good, even with that silly name of his heheheh.

I like how each story is divided in about 4 episodes and that older adventures are mentioned in later episodes.
each time I watch an episode, I can't help thinking about my Microman figures. somehow they share the same look

Partly true. Let me explain.

Because I bought the DVD at Zellers a little over a year ago.

There was a pilot that was released for Captain Future in Japan.

This pilot was never released as-is in France. Instead, France took the pilot and meshed it with footage from other Captain Future episodes and made it into a movie.

So it is true that to the French this was a whole new Capitaine Flam movie, but to Japanese fans, this was no surprise at all, and not a movie.
