Great crew!

group shot of the figures sold in the UK as 'Action Force' series 3, the first Joes sold as the US characters and not recreated as new ones.

group shot of the figures sold in 1987 in the UK. these were still sold as 'Action Force', but were now sold in Hasbro style packaging. the AF Series 3 were sold in Pallitoy style packaging. The only 2 I'm missing are Heavy Metal and Frostbite. Cobras sold that year were Destro, Cobra trooper, CG, Storm Shadow, Tele-Viper, Snow Serpent, Eel, Ripper and Buzzer, Zartan and his swamp skier, Copperhead and Moccassin, Stinger and driver and Moray/Lampreys.
interestingly, Ace and the Skystriker, Stinger/driver, Moccassin/Copperhead, Destro, Zartan/skier, Cobra trooper, Storm Shadow, the FANG and the Whirlwind were sold again, despite already being part of Series 3. The Whirlwind was sold in 3 versions - Z-Force, series 3 AF and a mailaway Hasbro version. the series 3 version was basically over-stock with a modified box. the Hasbro and Z versions, like the Pallitoy and Hasbro packed S3 vehicles, had different stickers as well. the WHALE was later re-released in 1988. both UK versions are a different shade of green, both to the US version and each other.

I liked the info on the AF/GIJoe history. I saw some of the earlier star wars type articulation Action Force guys at the con for pretty cheap. I thought they'd cost more.

I have some. I really like the argen 7 fan comic. I asked about buying a copy and was told it was in the works but that was like a year ago.
-
It's very interesting and rare nowadays to see what Action Force stickers looked like on Joe vehicles. Thanks for sharing Sundance!
-
I love the check point, what year was it from?
-
1987 in the UK, along with the Air Defence.
the '87 range was Mauler, Snowcat, TTBP, Air Defence, Checkpoint Alpha, Striker, Armadillo, Silver Mirage, Skystriker and Dragonfly for the Joes, plus the carded figures in my group shot. Cobra got the Stinger, Ferret, FANG, Battle Bunker, Zartan, Moccassin, Moray, Destro, blue shirt, CG, Eel, Snow Serpent, Tele-Viper, Buzzer and Ripper and Storm Shadow.
the checkpoint and air defence were also available in '88 along with other battle stations like the LAW, Forward Observer, Rifle Range and so on.

Cool! It feels just as if I was in the cockpit of the other skystriker beside it.
-
unfortunately, she needs new tail fins. you might just see the sticky tape holding them on in the first shot...

I did not notice the tape until you pointed it out. Its still in nice condition. You are very lucky to still have it.
-
She looks sweet, very clean.
-
Always great to see a WHITE Skystriker..
Btw nice pics Sundance.. now give us a fight between the Striker and a Rattler!
-
i'll need some assistance for that. otherwise all you'll get is a bunch of close-ups of the planes and no shots of the two...

YOOOOOOOO JOOOOOOOOOOE!!!!!!!
-
Very nice display! Now for the stupid question, how many VHS tapes are you using to display them?
-
26 plus 29 DVDs at the back.
NEVER try displaying loose figures on DVDs without figure stands, they slid around on the plastic like nobody's business.
-
Thanks for the tip, I will try to remember that.
-
:D

Hey I work at a TV station, and we still have film in canisters lying around! talk about old tech....
-
Great collection.
And I can tell you really dig it. Glad they aren't just stuck in a cupboard like a lot of people's - you actually enjoy your collection!
-
uh... i have 11 o-ring figures on display, plus a driver and vehicle and 3 custom AF figures. the majority is not on display. sadly, i just don't have the room. this was done special.
-
Nice carpet...................oh and nice set-up! ;D
-
that's our landing carpet. left over from the 1970s like most of them.
my bedroom carpet's worse!

Yeah, but you take them out once in a while. At least you enjoy them rather than leaving them behind closed doors forever.

i got another Joe today, Law and Order. of course, this means i now have 56 Joes and need to get 4 more to make 60.
my OCD compels me...
Flash and Shipwreck were supposed to be the last until i get a better job and can afford them, but i got him for a bargain price...
-
Nice addition!

Law & Order was the first 1987 character that I acquired back in the olden days...I opted for Shipwreck over Mutt and Junkyard back in 85, so in 87, Law & Order were the next best thing to a dog handler figure. Congrats, so which other characters were still on your want list if I may ask?
-
my plan now is to get Mutt and Junkyard, Dial-Tone, Jinx and Recoil.
my 'wish list' is to get Spirit, Sneak-Peak, Repeater, Fast Draw, Backstop and Persuader, Frostbite and Snowcat, Lift-Ticket and Tomahawk, Cutter and WHALE, Lifeline and Heavy Metal and Mauler.
will need mucho dosh since most of those vehicles are hard to find complete and intact and the Mauler is like rocking horse poo over here.
my Cobra wish-list is 2 more of Eel, Viper, BAT, Trooper; another of Night and Alley Viper, the Hydro-sled, Copperhead and Moccassin, HISS and driver, Mamba and Gyro-Viper plus an Annihilator and TARGAT.
Like i said, the wishlist is for when i'm significantly better off. and possibly own my own place...
-
Old Law seems to be in nice shape eh? Nice mousepad btw..
-
Really nice collection of O-Rings!
"...like rocking horse poo..." I'll have to remember that one!
-
thanks 5h4rk. it was a freebie from a film magazine.
i was being politer, it's usually 'rocking horse shit', formb, or there's the much politer 'as rare as hen's teeth'.

got Jinx today.
-
Very nice! Good luck with getting the rest on your want list!
-
i'm watching all 3 on eBay til i get paid. 2 i'm sure of being able to get. one i'm more unsure of.
-
Nice.. Jinx is one of my faves from the og. ARAH line!

Man, I love that pic! Outdoors shots are truly the best..
-
over the summer, on my days off and holidays, i'm aiming to do outdoor mini-dio things of nearly all my Joes and Cobras and a few more AF things.
(a lot of them will basically be Joe character X versus the 6 Crimson Guards i own or Joe character X vs the 2 Vipers, 2 BATs and 2 blue-shirts.)
i'm hoping to get some outdoor shots of the Persuader this weekend if it's dry...
-
Hi Sundance,
I absolutely love your collection, and your photos.
Thanks so much for posting them.
It would be really cool to add shots of some of
the packaging if you can, just to see the difference.
Cheers
Dale
-
i don't have any MOC or MIB stuff. you'd need to visit the toy archive on bloodforthebaron.com to see that kind of thing.
-
Do you switch up guns on your figures? Thought Hawk used a pistol.
-
i've lost mine. Hawk usually gets to borrow Roadblock Battle Corps' pistol.

You need a stand or something to tie the FANG too. that would help.
-
i tried to get my mum to hold the FANG, but i couldn't get a good angle and not have her in the side and there was also the washing line, house across the street and phone lines in it.
-
Tie the Fang to the Washing line, and hope fully you can find your angle. Either way we all love your photos... +1
-
i knew you'd say that. i tried it with Ripcord and Crazy Legs to get 'freefalling' shots and it was a miserable failure.

At least you tried it!

Your outdoor shots are always great! Have you ever tried putting toothpicks into the grass to use as stands?
-
no, but i am going to use cocktail sticks to hold up some targets for Scarlett...

Once again, a great photo collection of 'Joes outdoors. I think I figured out why I like your pictures so much: you're taking most of them at a low angle, which gives a more realistic eye-level shot. It's something I don't see often in outdoor photos. Also, your background is very cool!
-
Hey Sundance, how are you taking these pics? Are you lying down on the ground?
-
Hey Sundance, how are you taking these pics? Are you lying down on the ground?
I second Bandonov on this! I want to know too.
-
in some cases, i am lying down, in others, i'm sitting on the ground, cross-legged and holding the camera in front of me, close to the toys. in others, i'm crouching down and holding the camera close.
the idea is, generally speaking, to make it look 'real' by avoiding things like houses, fences, walls and powerlines etc. in the background, although in a few you can see the metal washing line post...

Hey look, snow! Something we haven't seen in a while here in Ontario.
I really like how you display your Joes and take such fun pictures. I'm out of timbits right now, but I'll owe you one. ;)
-
nice pics sundance, it's good to see a collector have fun with their toys.

thanks.

all my Joes from the UK 1985 releases. the only ones i don't have are Duke, Stalker and Roadblock V1s (cuz i've got later versions), Deep Six, Cutter and the 3 UK characters; Ton Up, Moondancer and Dolphin. The other exception is Ace, but see below...
All my Joes from 1987. Ace was re-released in 1987 with the Skystriker. the only one I don't have is Heavy Metal...

that's cuz i always try to avoid getting walls, houses, the old veg box and the washing line posts in the photos!

Look at the last picture makes me think that we need a classic Joe Colton figure made in the modern era style. It would make a good SDCC or FSS figure.

Someone should mention to Tunnel Rat that he might want to drop the satchel of TNT before he works near that bomb on the bottom of the Sky Striker. ;)
Joking aside I still love your passion for taking pictures. It just reminds me that I should get back to posting more of my customs. I just hate my camera, so I get lazy.

i tried to remove it, but i was scared of breaking the strap and it's a cast-iron female dog to try to get off.

If you really wanted to get it off I have 2 suggestions:
Boiling hot water. Dunk him in a glass and the rubber should soften.
Remove the screw from his back and take him apart.
That's only if you really wanted to take it off. He's probably fine "as is". I'm just throwing the suggestions out there. ;)

i'll leave it.

Man that is so Fracken sweet...love that set. I had the WWII figure. I think he is at my bro's now. I need to get him back. I remember seeing this on the selves and just drooling...I wasn't collecting back then though. Oh well live and learn....you're really fortunate to have them man! I'm super happy for ya!

thanks. i hope when we've got some decent weather and i've got a bit more free time to do some photos of the Solider, Marine and Joe together and some of the pilot with my Skystriker.

Outback, my latest purchase, arrived Friday.
-
Awesome he has the flash light and everything. Mines missing it. Awesome purchase sunny dee
-
yeah, i paid a bit more than i usually like to for him (£15) because he not only had the torch, but also an intact sling on his rifle and he's not yellowed, his 'SURVIVAL' is nearly perfect and he came with his filecard.
-
Yes man, Outback is in awesome shape. Looks great. You are like myself, take my time finding some really good stuff, it's not about volume but quality. Great but Sunny Dee
Crazylegs :)
-
My collection is based around figures or characters i really like and wanted as a kid, mostly. there are a few exceptions. The OAT and Joe Colton are stuff I wanted as an adult after finding out about them online, same with Action Man. Pathfinder I only got because I ended up with him when I bought a Flint to replace mine's arms. I then decided to actually buy a complete Pathfinder because I thought he was kinda cool. A few figures I bought for army building, but about 95% are figures i either had or wanted as a kid.
-
the collecting is about what makes you happy it is after all your collection.
where have been anyway? i'm the only one allowed to go on off line holidays ;)
-
where have what been?
-
Funny thing sunny Dee,
Reading that is just like the way I feel. I totally get that...I'm sure most of us do. I'm happy to feel that way and be around such kewl people as your self and many others on here that feel the same.
Now as adults those figures we wanted as a kid and couldn't get, we can now have them and have them to show off to ourselves and others.
Your Joe Bro,
Crazylegs :)

i left BFTB and have been posting here intermittently - although it's quiet here most of the time and posting elsewhere on the interwebs.

Hey Eddie,
Nice to meet you bro. Just wanted to say hello. How are things your way? I hope you are having a Merry Christmas, and wishing you and yours a great new year.

Sundancer's a resident Canucklehead for as long as I can remember. It's a privilege we can often take for granted to have an ambassador to the UK amongst us every day. Just as much as it's a privilege to have guys like Olyeller and Formbx from the States contribute to our boards.

new arrival
-
awesome bro...you're like me, focusing on the o-ring collection. Spirit is one of my faves...still got him and love the figure. there is something that his figure was about, like stalker having different races as a part of the joe team. To me there is something magic about Charlie :)
Awesome glad you have him and freedom!
Is it american or from the action force or British line?
Your Joe Bro
Crazylegs :P

it's american. the only version of Spirit released over here was an exclusive repaint in black colours. it's, natch, hideously expensive.

since i've now got Lightfoot, I'm disbanding my 'specialists' squad and redistributing the members. Lightfoot, Tripwire, Airtight and Barbecue are now my EOD team. Outback, Recondo, Pathfinder, Dusty and Alpine are my extreme environments team, Shockwave goes in MP/K9 and Backblast gets tacked onto Anti-armour/Fire-support.

Love my big bear and red star...with my red star all I have it his hat...do you know anyone with extra red star parts? Love those members of the Okt. Guard
thanks for sharing Sunny Dee
-
that's Lt. Gorky from the 1998 Oktober Guard 3-pack. they redecoed Big Bear as Gorky, redecoed Red Star as Col. Brekhov and put a new head on a redeco of Lady Jaye to make Volga aka Daina. I'm after Volga, but I'm not bothered about getting Brekhov.
-
wow most interesting...when did this happen...thanks for bringing me to school on this SD bro :)
-
CL - it happened regurlarly in the post ARAH era and the 1997-1998 revival of 3 3/4 inch gi joe was not spared.
Per instance, the Battlecorps Frostbite became Blizzard, the entire body of 1986' General Hawk was reused for Breaker and Rock N' Roll, Battlecorps Wet-Suit became Torpedo, Thunder became Thunderwing (although the renaming is somewhat acceptable to continuity), and the entire body of Jinx was entirely reused for Vypra, etc.
-
which makes all the cobblers about the 5-POA figures being to cut costs such BS. plenty of ways to rerelease and redeco figures with new names as the drivers, with or without new headsculpts.
-
ok it get it now, i had a three pack of snow dudes and frostbite had a red beard, I traded them for a good trade. Man nothing is untouchable when it comes to the O-rings. Sheesh....I'm glad I have my 82-91's.
Thanks dudes!
-
Enough hickjacking this thread... "Now back to Gi joe" ;). Sundance: In that last pic it looks like Gorky just finished throwing a dagger in the other Crimson Guard's direction (the one in the foreground). Is that intentional?
-
no, he was meant to be going 'charge!' or 'fire!' or something.

funny i need to get those two same joes later, I already have the other joe....can't recall his name now :/

Mercer.
i got these two from bluesnagman on eBay. He's got more of the Taurus.
-
Ah yes Mercer! Forgive me for that slipping my mind...He's a great figure and looked like dulph 'lundern'? in the movie, I love that he was a cobra defector, I'll be getting the two you have sooner then later to complete the set and have on the Tripple T with Slaughter :P
Thanks for sharing :)

-
Nice outdoor pics as usual Sundancer ;) . Lightfoot deserves to get some of that Crimson Guard biting the dust action. Can you gear him up with acessory pack green riffle to see what he would look like? I would love to see that.
-
I don't have any accessory pack stuff except for what's on my one Eel...
-
Well I guess we'll have to fix that, won't we? PM sent!

pm completely not understood...

today's new arrival: Blizzard!
-
Blizzard is the best of the snow troopers. Just for kicks I'd like to do a head-swap and make him one of the Eco-Warriors or Mega-Marines.
-
I think he is "one" of the best...the best is Snowjob!...love my SJ fig!
-
i wasn't originally intending to get him. I'd thought about it in the past, but decided i wasn't fussed and didn't bother. but since MM posted his review of the 'Shooter' figure, and owing to my OCD to have a round number of both factions, I decided I needed two others to replace the two female figs i wasn't getting (for my target of 95) so i decided wth, i'd get Blizzard. the other one I'm going to get is the Sarge - Sgt. Slaughter, once I can find him for a non-rip-off price. the other 'Joe' figure i want is Volga.
-
I have the mail away sgt. slaughter if you are interested! I'm easy with pricing...would trade for a transformer?
-
i want the V2 one, thanks anyway.
-
the other one I'm going to get is the Sarge - Sgt. Slaughter, once I can find him for a non-rip-off price
And what is a non rip-off price If I may ask? You're talking about the '86 Sarge (and by extent his htf baton afterall). Some respect for the Sarge please. He's worth every dollar IMHO.
-
anything under £20 is non-rip-off, that's about US$40
-

i'll be honest, it's the only time they get taken out of the drawers these days!

So, when I got my WOLF last year, several of the stickers were in the wrong places and were in poor condition...
... as you can see from the arrows.
I bought replacements from cobrastickres.com and stripped the old ones off, but the WOLF was left with loads of horrible gooey gunk on it. My uncle gave me some stuff called 'Sticky Stuff Remover' which worked a treat.

Nicely restickered. Did have one minor disaster where i dropped one sticker as I was trying to put it on and the bloody thing went and fell into my keyboard between the keys and I couldn't get it back out. The sticker sheet also included extra stickers to go on the red missiles but I've not put them on yet. I'm in two minds whether to, since they're not originals. They also included numbers to give the WOLF a 'fleet' number if anyone was of a mind to build a pack of WOLFs. I've not done that, since I only intend to have one.
-
Great job with the stickers, and a great vehicle.
One of my favs and I always thought it was practical.
It's like a big, up-gunned snowmobile.
-
a couple went on crooked, but i figured wth, at least they're in the right places!!
-
classic cobra vehicle. I've always loved Cobra vehicles that appeared cutting edge compared to the assembly line look of the older joe vehicles. To me this is exactly what Cobra is.
-
took some more photos of my Joes by year, including redoing some because of added figures.

we don't spell shop like that.
not unless we're doing faux olde English.
and, yes, i rely entirely on eBay or other sellers.

-
Nice! Those are surprisingly hard to find in good shape. Either UV or chlorine turns the plastic into a brittle mess, especially the black stuff. I tossed one that was by far the worst condition vehicle I'd ever bought (it came in a lot so not a huge loss).
-
the bottom of the hull is scratched to hell, but the topside's not too bad. so it looks okay on my shelf

Copper head is always so rusty. Half the time his thighs are scrapped with rust stains. Or better yet the screws don't even come out.

It's always fun to see Joes in action :-)
-
yeah, i've got a list of stuff to do. really need to find time to do more. Mind you, a bunch of the list is the divers and boats in the stream and that park's a bloody long old walk away.
-
Despite swearing I was done buying actual Joes, and I was just going to get more Cobras, I have now bought another Joe. I plan to get four others to make a solid 100.
Ace version 2, who will henceforth be known as Warbird, the Radar Intercept Officer in my Skystriker jet.
The other four I plan to get are versions 3 and 4 of Duke, version 3 of Dusty and version 3 of Shockwave. They will all be renamed. with the Dukes and Dusty forming my Desert Warfare squad with Dusty v1 and Shockwave v3 will join my MP unit.
-
(http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i80/capcalhoun/joephotos/officer.jpg)
Cobra Officer, got today. Real good condition too. I also got a Night Force Psyche-Out figure I didn't pay for from the seller! I'll sling it on eBay and try and make a few quid off it.
-

got Duke v4 today, but I'm renaming him Sand Panther and making him part of my desert warfare squad.

Shockwave V3, or 'Siren' as I'm naming him.

nice additions. Its been awhile since I got anything ...probably 2 years now...wow time has flown by. Thanks for sharing.
-
There, finally read through all the pages.
Nice collection. I'm not brave enough to put the weapons in their hands like you.
Do you just collect the ones that tickle your fancy or do they have meaning to you? For example, I collect the '82-'86 figures because that was the years that I played with them and I always dreamt of having all the figures and vehicles from those years when I was a kid.
-
my motivations for buying the figures I have are varied. Obviously, some are ones I had as a kid. There's a LOAD that I got when I first started that I'd wanted as a kid; like Lady Jaye, Scarlett, Ripcord, Stalker, Dusty, the Snow Cat and Frostbite, Crankcase and the AWE Striker. There's a load I got because I liked the character in the comics, like Airborne, Charbroil, Hit&Run, Spearhead and Max and Tunnel Rat. Some like Mutt and Junkyard, Blowtorch and Alpine I got so I had the majority of the carded figures from 1985 and 1987 over here.
Then there's a few I got because I was basically trying to build a coherent Joe army, like Recoil, Bulletproof, Stretcher, and these last three.
I also got the Action Team set, Action Man and Joe Colton because I thought they were cool figures and wanted them. I'd still love to get the Natalie Poole con figure to go with AM.

another new arrival, Dusty v3, or Dune Runner and his coyote Sienna, as I'm naming them.
-
(http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i80/capcalhoun/joephotos/officer2.jpg)
final one of the recent batch of my purchases (I had a rebate I spent), a second Cobra Officer, this one with the 1985 Pallitoy style cardback, this is the rear of the cardback, because the photo I took of the front came out blurry as hell. The large image at the top shows the range of figures available carded in 1985 as well as the re-released remote operated vehicles called PAC-RATs in the US, and the 'Shaft', 'Dart' and 'Lance' (L-R) in the UK, they were originally part of the AF line, in Z-Force. The smaller left side image is for the mail-away 'Action Force Infantryman', who was actually Grunt of GI Joe.

I HATE the plastic used for those brown guns. Wrecks an otherwise OK figure from the era of pretty hit-or-miss figs.

Ah, you can't just stop at 100. C'mon, you know you want more.

I'm going to get more Cobras. But the only Joes I want now are vehicle drivers and vehicles or two con exclusives and I'm reluctant to spend that kind of money.

I love seeing a collection get new stuff. Keep posting!
I had to get like 5 Saw Vipers before I got one with an unmarked up head. Still looking for a Technoviper with perfect silver (I can't bear to open my carded one). Backpack should be easy to replace.
-
only thing I've bought recently is a 4th Iron Grenadier.
-
Is it just me or is the IG black gun the tightest fit other than SA fig weapons? I'm always scared I'm gonna break a thumb.
-
IG Uzis are horrific, I have trouble with that too. The last IG I bought, I haven't even got to hold the Uzi yet, I'm so terrified of breaking his thumb.
