Title: Hasbro, you are done. Close down the GI Joe brand.
Post by: canprime on January 17, 2011, 11:16:47 AM
Why?

Perfection has been achieved!!!  You can do no better so don't try and just shut down the brand at it's zenith.

What is that zenith you ask?

LOW-LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This figure did not just surpass my expectations, it blew by them, lapped them, and blew them up right before the finish line.  I don't want to turn this into a review, but I had to give high praise to Hasbro for this outstanding figure.  Not only is it a great update to a classic ARAH figure, it takes accessories and packing/placement/storage to beautiful heights.

This figure is incredible.  Thanks Hasbro.

Just make sure you do not loose the single bullet!

They have hit perfection with the POC line so that will be the bar now.  If they can make every figure like Low Light, G.I. Joe would be the best toy on the shelf (it already is, but we have to get the kids into it).  I look forward to see what is next.

I had the bullet fall out when I opened the figure, but I had it all on a clear table just in case something happened so it was ok.  That is the smallest piece ever made by Hasbro and if this was the original 80s line that piece would probably be going for over $100 on eBay.

It is rather strange this close to Toyfair and no pics or info on the brand other than POC will continue with Renegades mixed in, in a realistic style.

Its still a couple of weeks early for the first leaks--they usually start around the beginning of Feb.
The reveals also might be held off this year, until NYCC in March, but I suspect we'll see or hear SOMETHING by Toy Fair in mid Feb.
I think its going to be exciting this year.

I doubt they would hold off THE major toy show for a comic con. Besides, if holding off until March it might make more sense to reveal at MC's Joe convention.

That's an interesting thought, with MC's Joe con only a month after Toyfair I highly doubt they will have any new product to show.

With toy fair being an industry show, they'd be crazy not to have a solid joe presence there this year. After the glut of movie stuff, they will want to push this new and seemingly fan-loved line on the retailers big-time. Plus with a newly released cartoon to show support, which is important to retailers, this is the time to give this line a real push to the retailers. Makes more sense to have a big presence there than at a con.

Don't get to expectant about Toy Fair itself folks.
Its been said that for several years now Toy Fair has diminished in its once-prominent role as the annual debut/roll-out of the latest toys.
The function of Toy Fair USED to be the event where the deals would be signed between manufacturers and retailers for the following months ( and Christmas) production of toys.
Over the past.......5 years or so, most of the major manufacturers ( Mattel, Hasbro etc) have been signing their deals in the early fall, in September.
Many of these same manufacturers don't even display their wares at the Javits Centre anymore, and chose to display their wares at other shows ( NYCC, SDCC) or at their own off-site showroom locations. They do this to control who sees the stuff, and often then the viewings are by invitation only.
( also, the show is NOT open to the public--contrary to what some unwitting collectors perennially assume. One needs to have some document-able professional affiliation to the toy industry to gain entrance.)

So its possible to NOT see anything from the big players or the big brands come Toy Fair. NYCC is a more focussed event, a few weeks later, AND it gives the marketing people a chance to add more polish to the items they want to showcase.
SDCC is, of course, a BIG media event now, and so some players just decide to withhold their showings until then, to work their releases all into more of a event themselves.

So, cross your fingers....

I'm reviewing LL for the JoeCanuck Newsletter and trust me, he IS worth the hype.  Now if only we could get the remaining "most wanteds" with the same quality!

I don't have the figure yet, but he looks awesome.

Not bad for what is basically a repaint with a new head and gear.

He's PoC Beach Head body and legs, Jungle Viper Arms and a new head. It's a pretty creative use of parts, IMHO.

I don't think you have to worry about the bullet so much as the radio antenna, which falls out very easily.  I've already lost mine  >:(

Wow that Beachhead body is really getting some milege!  I've seen so many customs based on that fig, and now Low Light!
