What's your opinion on them??

If there was one positive in the 3 3/4 line being killed for 1995, it was this. Like your organs would have survived with something ripping out of your stomach. ::) What a stupid concept.
-
What The **** are these? Was this what caused Hasbro to pull the plug in '94?

Probably one of the reasons..

Nope!
There's no difference between the Replicators, the Rat and the mole pods..
-
Heavy science fiction elements have traditionally heralded the end of a GIJOE line.
-
Bad.... so bad...
-
im glade the line stopped before those monstrositys got released, that would have been a definate end, imo.

Hasbro was just throwing every thing on the drawing board and see if it would stick. A Hasbro rep at one of the GIJCC conventions mentioned this. They were taking all the vanilla favours of the day like Exo-Squad, Captain Planet, TMNT etc. and trying to get some of that action.

I would've bought these.
Who says that it's not their armor that is a shapeshifting gastric alien?
Guys, it's poor sales that lead to GI joe's demise, plus the joe brand not appealing to kids anymore, it started way before this in a declining way. Kids started to be more into video games than us in the later 90's, unlike our generation (for the most of us), so that forced Hasbro taking a long break and plan a comeback later on, I'm sure. Gi joe is like Barbie is to Mattel. I doubt that Hasbro would "kill" the line, they'd just try to do better in a next time to come, and so on.

I would've bought these.
Yeah, me too.. but probably one of each only (because 5h4rK has a tendency to be a completist)
But I hate the concept behind them..
Now bring me the unproduced Payload... Muhahahahahah!

-
No!.. but I need it!
-
Now that 5h4rK said he would have bought 1 of each, I will buy 3 of each just to outdo him. Then after he has turned green with envy, I would place them on the freebie table at the CJC, after he checked it out so he could not pick one up.

Instead of these horrors, they could've gone back to Super Joe, but in 3 3/4 form if they wanted to tackle science fiction so bad.
-
why couldn't they just make normal Joes...?
-
Because it would've been too simple

The traditionnal Gi joe army men weren't selling anymore.... and it was a matter of selling, so Hasbro took the toyline in other directions that seemed to work for other brands at that time as Pete already mentionned it before. Mutants were in this category so it was a matter of time before the Joes started splicing out their own humanity.

Now we know where LJ's "Carrot of Deth" came from. It exploded out of his chest and onto his plate.

Agreed on that! I also like Gung-Ho's helment, it reminds me of those Cobra astronauts that you see during the space battle in the Mass Device.

Yeah that's true.. there's a Corps! figure with that same kind of helmet also..I'll try to find a pic!

I think the Replicators idea would have turned off a lot of traditionalists (like myself) that wanted to see the 1995 "Battle Corps Rangers" return to military roots.
But there is a clear and definite audience for this sort of thing: the Lunartics and Manimals flew off the shelves! Regular Star Brigade and Mega Marine figures were pegwarmers, but the monsters/mutants from the same lines were a hit for some reason. So maybe Hasbro was on to something.

As a kid I had no problem with the colour schemes, the fantasy elements and the other crazy stuff that was going on. Star Brigade was a great way for me to load up my Defiant and send my Joes into space (aka the basement)
On the other hand, I did dislike the weapon trees and the sudden influx of repaints. (i.e. Firefly's lime/grey and lime/black variation or the different versions of Roadblock)
-
I think at the time Replicators couldn't have make it much worse. It was already winding down.
-
they should've brought in the AF and Shad characters...
-

I agree. I was thinking this really isn't much worse than some of the stuff they did make (street fighter, cobra la etc.). And by that time GI Joe was basically dead to me. The line had jumped the shark long before this. So if this stuff had come out, I'd be fine with that. I just ignore it like I do the other stuff I don't like! :) As it is right now, it's an interesting piece of joe trivia.
-
I stopped in 1987. I couldn't stand the lines from 88 and on. More Hit N Run and less Eco-Team might have salvaged the line, but I think the toys were destined to lose ground to sports and girls!
I don't think Replicators would've had an effect. It was just more of the same weak stuff imo.
-
I have actually never heard of these, but I can say this.....good thing they didn't go ahead with it.
They likely would have been cool for the 5 year olds, but that's about it really.
