Due to trademark issues, the SkyStriker (as we know it) cannot be sold with that name in Canada. As such, our packaging will carry the name "SKYFIGHTER". This name change may apply in other countries as well, however the USA release will still be called "Skystriker"
The toy itself will of course be identical, only the packaging/name will be different. Look for it on shelves this fall.
You heard it here first! Your #1 source for Canadian GIJOE information!

WOW! That is wild, I wonder who ownes the trademark in Canada?
-
Me. But Hasbro wouldn't pay up.
-
Always had plans to pick mine up in the states anyways. I'm sure Zellers will be selling it for $59.99 or something crazy like that anyways. With our money being worth more and my frequent trips to the stats, I'll get it there.
-
Packaging variant!
-
What currently has the rights to Skystriker? At any rate, it doesn't really bother me. It's not like we'll see it in Canada, anyway...

Skypeacemaker, perhaps? Skysharer? Skyfriend?

I wonder what this means for any future card back references of the Stryker. Actually now I'm curious to see Ace's file card.

Starspeak Skyfighter, maybe.
Considering that's an SDCC exclusive, I don't think Canadian trademark laws will apply to it, though! At least, I'd hope not.

The SDCC exclusive this year will be the Skystriker renamed by Hasbro as the Starscream Skyfighter.

That's kinda messed up. Is the Skystriker being renamed to Skyfighter in the States, too? Or is it just the Canadian release and the SDCC one?

Regular Release:
Canada (and perhaps other countries) will have the SKYFIGHTER
USA will have SKYSTRIKER
SDCC:
Unknown - however the link regarding the SDCC I posted above seems to say that it will be skyfighter.
-
Skywhatever. I want one and will throw away the box.

This link is from Transformers Philipines, so maybe all international (non-US) trademarks were expired? I remember the ROC Night Raven being renamed "Night Bird" in the UK, because of that legal problem.

So will we be getting a different sticker sheet? I certainly hope not. I was probably going to buy these from the States (and be horribly gouged) anyway but would obviously prefer to buy locally - again, not that I've had much luck finding Joe stuff locally. I don't know about you guys but I wouldn't want the sides of my SkyStriker adorned with stickers that make it seem like it's some cheap bootleg.

How would the stickers make it look like a cheap bootleg unless the US stickers make it look like a cheap bootleg? ??? Do our '80s vehicles' Canadian flags make them look like bootlegs? Not trying to be confrontational, mind you.

I have to agree with Snakes. As a kid I wasn't aware that my ARAH vehicles were different from US versions because it still said gi joe on them, and that's the only thing that mattered to me anyway. I think whether this is called a Skystriker, Skydiver, SkyFighter, whatever, will be of little consequence because the SkyFighter will commemorate the original Skystriker on its overall aesthetic level rather than on the name of the plane itself. Look at the simple solution: you can always buy sticker sheets from Cobra stickers.com and problem solved Gerjurdking
-
I haven't seen the sticker sheet. Do the stickers even say "Skystriker" on them?

Anyone pick one of these up yet? Are the Canadian stickers/filecard(s) different?
-
So still no sightings? Is there a sightings part of the forum, couldn't find one...
-
Still Nothing.... :P
-
Got my Sky Strikers from HJL collectibles today. It says on the box "Sky Striker", not Sky Fighter. And the box is english only. Am I to assume that I got the american versions of them? Or did Hasbro manage to secure the rights to "Sky Striker" in the end?
Interesting to take note that the pilot is not "Slipstream" as advertised in some sites. He's really called "Capt. Ace".
I didn't open one of them yet but the pics on the back of the package show a "Sky Striker" sticker on the underside of both engines.
Has anyone found these at retail so far?
-
Does anyone know what is the suggested retail price of the Skystriker that will be released in Canada?

I paid $55 total for mine but that was at a comic shop.
