Hi All-
Just wanted to send out a question to you.
What is the best way to get the grime and dirt in the nooks and crannies of the old vintage old Vehicles?. Is there a better way then just soap and water? :o
I've read about how to whiten your joes and parts with a solution. does something like this work for restoration of old Vehicles?. IE. like does fingernail polish remover remove unwanted paint? etc. ???
I'm in the process of restoring a Whale, and got a few others that just need some time to pick and clean.

I'll be posting pics of the WHALE restoration as it goes along here. It's my first time doing something like this project and wanted to share.

hey, great topic. I do this alot and believe it or not, i enjoy restoring old vehicles.
A little trick that i use tovget the crud out of tight spots and cracks is with a tiny flat headed screw driver and a lysol/clorox wipe. you wrap the wipe around the end of the screw driver (so it does not scratch anything) and give it a gentle scrub. I recently picked up a pretty scuzzy looking mobile command center that is 99% complete. took me hours of work, but it looks really good now.
If im replacing the decals anyway I will take the vehicle apart and just give it a nice hot soapy bath, and goo gone the rest. re-assemble and order more stickers from cobrastickers.com! presto, it looks like the day it came out of the box!

As for yellowing, see this thread. I want to restore my Flagg but shipping would be costly. Hence, I am waiting to buy this solution provided if it can be sent to Canada.

Thanks for the read Pete. Glad to see progress in this field. I have a Steel brigade figure and a Spirit figure that could use a good cleaning. Sad part is they are my only copies of those figures and I have no desire to look for a new ARAH Steel Brigade figure at all.

awesome guys thanks....i've been wanting to pick your brains on this for a while. I got a whale that I am in the process of restoring with parts. I'm going to break out the cleaning supplies take her apart and get down to it and use these techniques before I start to put all the parts on.
I was so amazed at the help on here when I posted that I was wanting and then restoring a WHALE. Thanks to everyone that has helped me. I'm almost there...I'll be posting pics.
There is allot of that grime in the corners and thats about it. Love the vintage stuff and this little project has been a fun learning experince :D

I'm thinking and experincing that it comes down to allot of TLC and elbow grease! Realizing from my WHALE that this restoration is a passion within a passon, if you have the funds to be able to continue to do it...LOL

There's a cleaning product called Dirtex from a company called Savogran that I use to clean my dirty, nasty old vehicles. Not only is Dirtex Joe vehicle approved it will also clean just about anything: chrome, glass, tile, & so forth. It will even cut that nasty film that gets on the inside of your windshield from the sun beating down on your dash.
After Dirtexing like several other people posted I then use Goo Gone. Not only does it strip the sticker residue but it also gives a nice shine...as well as a citrusy scent!

I'll have to first get some goo gone, and then take a peep for that product if i can't find it i'm going to try the baby wipes, q-tips and more TLC. I'll wait though until i get my stickers from cobrastickers.com....that is one awesome web site!!!
