Title: New 7 Packs!!!!
Post by: olyeller01 on October 12, 2011, 09:27:34 PM
HissTank is reporting via its Facebook page that the next 7 packs to be released will be Slaughter's Marauders vs Dreadnoks.  The Marauders team will consist of Red Dog, Taurus, Mercer, Lt. Falcon, Spirit, Low-Light, and Barbecue and the Dreadnoks pack will have Zandar, Zayana (?), Thrasher, Road Pig, Gnawgahyde and Burn-Out.

While the Marauders pack seems merely ok (I don't mind another Low-Light just for the accessories but do we really need Spirit and BBQ again?) I'm absolutely PSYCHED for the 'Nok pack.  Besides Zandar & Road Pig, I'm totally pumped that my Thunder Machine and Air Skiff will have some 25th-style drivers!

Dreadnoks and Sgt. Slaughter's Marauders/Renegades!!!!

Saw on Joecustoms a link to a site that shall not be named and they have pics from a Hasbro event with 7 Dreadnoks and 7 Marauders/Renegades.

The prevailing belief is that these will be the 2 BBTS exclusive 7 packs announced tomorrow.

The breakdown is:

DREADNOKS:

Burnout
Thunder (Thrasher)
Road Pig
Gnaw (Gnawgahyde)
Zanzibar
Zanya
Zandar

MARAUDERS/RENEGADES:

Mercenary (Mercer)
Bull (Taurus)
Red Dog
Barbeque
Low Light
Spirit (Predator Billy version)
Falcon

I get the feeling they were being taken on the "sly" to not draw attention since the official announcement isn't until tomorrow.

Toynewsi has some better pics.

Certainly not my first choice of characters for 7 packs. Most of these are from the era of joe when it really started going downhill for me, so not really a priority. I would have liked more early joes to fill in some more holes (cover girl for eg.) but being 7 packs I can see why they wanted to go with theme/team oriented sets. Never been a fan of the dreadnoks, but a few look good. Zandar looks really good. Zanya actually looks really good, even though she is a modern character. I really wish she was the SDCC exlusive and Zarana was in this pack. It still irks me to no end that Zarana was the SDCC exclusive. The Joe set is really weak though. Just goofy coloured repaints and characters I have no interest in. I'll likely want to pick up the dreadnoks, not sure about the other pack unless it's reasonable to get them in a package deal. Being a BBTS exclusive, perhaps it may be worth going in together with someone local to get these... Unless a Canadian online retailer can carry these too? At a reasonable price of course.

THANK YOU SIR for that one.  I think my favorite of all of them is Road Pig.  He simply looks AWESOME!  An almost perfect likeness of the character!

I have to say that I love the Dreadnok pack.  It is a great way to finish off a bunch of characters, much like the defense/attack of cobra island packs.

I would have been more "meh" with the Marauders/renegades if not for the Renegades being thrown in as well.  However inwould have preferred another sub-team before the Marauders (tiger force, night force).

I look forward to getting the Renegades and a Falcon figure that is not awful.

I'll most likely be trading off the other three (Spirit, BBQ, Low-Light) if anyone is interested.

I just wish they could have included a Sgt. Slaughter in the set for those of us that never got the SDCC Slaughter figures. I got the wrestling version of him, MOC and that's it. I need one I can open.

Very psyched about the noks pack, and half psyched by the other set, I want the Renegades but not the mauraders.

Finally...something that I find worth spending on. Can't wait to get these.

I would have liked more early joes to fill in some more holes (cover girl for eg.) but being 7 packs I can see why they wanted to go with theme/team oriented sets. These are afterall great theme 7-packs. I'm very happy overall with the choice of characters with perhaps a one thing or two that I can live with. For one: new and old Dreadnok product will always be in good demand (as long as they don't keep doing them pink LOL). I personnally am not going wow about the innovated look of Zanzibar (will he have a chestplate I wonder) or with Barbecue (wich is a nice sculpt but I've seen it enough), but they're okay. Lt. Falcon was never originally offered as a Marauder but if you think about it, it would've made perfect sense since he spent a great deal at the Slaughterhouse beein rehabilitated for misconduct in the Gi joe Sunbow movie (he was later admitted into a rehab center by the Joes because of his drug addiction in an episode of the DIC series....but that's another story!)

As for the Marauders, I think this was the only and most obvious way to finally please the Sunbow movie fans. We got Nemesis Enforcer, Big Lob before, and now we're getting the three Renegades. This is already mission accomplished enough for me and a proof that Hasbro is willing to take a shot at rendering them in plastic. Judging from the pics, the Marauders' painscheme looks way better than on their ARAH counterparts. That's a big improvement. If they're as nicely done as on the Prototypes, I'll bet that everyone who will buy the Marauder pack will be very just as pleased with them.

Hasbro has been recycling lots of figure parts/ figures in the past 7pack offerings, so I don't see why the Marauder pack can get any weaker. A Tiger Force or Night Force subteam would've accomplished just the same in terms of not getting any new characters (aside of TF Skystriker maybe), except for the fact that they are subteams that most fans prefer already to the Marauders. If not for the Marauders, I don't see how Renegades would've come to happen any other way for Hasbro. Collectors will buy this pack regardless if it's Meh....This I say.

This is probably ultimately a test to see if we'll remain true to our cries and frustrations. So I'm reaching out to all those who wished for more Sunbow movie related merchandise (I know I did): Don't screw this up. This... I command LOL!

I think a 7-pack of Tiger Force or Night Force would be better received than a seeing those sub-teams covered in a split-pack.

We'd rather have 4 Marauders and 7 TF/NF rather than 4 TF/NF and 7 Marauders, right? :)

I agree with you because I'm a big Tiger Force fan, and I know that they are just as many who love Night Force including myself.

I'd add that Renegades and Marauders are both under Sgt. Slaughter's command, which makes this split pack, as one would say, a natural assortment.

I'm willing to be Master Collector group has already called bids on a Night Force set for 2012. I'm surprised BBTS was able to land this deal. The must have bought a boat load.

I pre-ordered the one with the GI Joe Resolute 7-Packs as I have passed on them multiple times.   $4.46 per figure (minus shipping and duty) sounds reasonable.

Even at $50 a set ($7.14 per figure), that is far better than what the GIJCC may have charged for something like this.
Title: Re: New 7 Packs!!!!

For the first time in the history of the universe, I preordered these packs immediately.  Normally I play the waiting game to see some really detailed pics or to see which retailer will get them first...but being a BBTS exclusive eliminates the 2nd problem for me and I've already seen enough to know I really want these sets!

And $7.14 a fig after shipping is still cheaper than the $7.56 (tax incl) a fig from Wal-Mart costs me!  And these are some characters I really want, not just something I'm buying just bc it's new Joe like I've been doing lately!   ;D

I'll get them, but since these are BBTS exclusives they won't show up anywhere else.  Contrary to what some people think on other boards.

BBTS took the Piranacon exclusive and it never showed up anywhere else (except comic shops at inflated prices after ordering from BBTS).

The thing is that BBTS has put the Piranacon set on sale twice in the last 3 months and they still have it for sale.  It isn't moving anymore and unfortunately the same thing will hold true for the Dreadnok/Marauder sets.  They would have to have ordered a TON!!! of product from Hasbro and that means to me they will still be available for a good while.

Just check BBTS and they have still available:
2278 Sets
1756 Dreadnoks pack
1984 Maruders pack
294 Sets with Resolute Sets

Hurry they are going fast!

I'm not worried about the price on these. Almost every year I get the Master Collector sets and those cost $270 - $295 for 15 figures. With the BBTS sets you have get 14 figures for $110 after shipping. The quality on the figures looks as good as the MC stuff and unlike the MC set, you get 14 unique characters where the MC sets rely heavily on army builders.

This just shows how off the MC prices really are.

As loathe as I am to defend MC, I think you are being a bit unfair Pete.

Hasbro did all the work on these sets and BBtS is just buying them ala Walmart/TRU exclusives.  MC has to do all the work and deal with a factory and all costs. They also package them into an event.  Granted that may or may not mean anything to a buyer, but it is an "extra".

Pete didn't say that. I did.  ;)

I don't think I'm being unfair with Fun Publishing and I have started a thread on their boards addressing this. They basically said the same thing but my point is that they are too expensive. I've told them that I think they are missing a golden opportunity right now. I think they should do a large run of a figure. Do a run of 2000 and make it's price comparable to retail (and sensible shipping). They could really use a cool one off as a great way to promote the G.I. Joe Collectors Club and loose that elitist reputation they have if they are just willing to throw out something really cool that everyone can afford.

I buy the high price items pretty much every year. Last year I was a mule for Stealth Viper, Pete the Greek and Real Boss and bought everything I was allowed to purchase when I was at the con, so I do support their efforts.  BTW, shutting my suit cases was a challenge.  :)

I want them to succeed. That's why I keep challenging them on things like shipping. I'm not screaming "Boo, they suck" and then secretly buying the stuff from Chinese bootleggers or midnight runners.

As Keith Morris said "question authority, I'll pay the price the future belongs to me".

Oops, sorry Pete, I was on my phone when responding.  My mistake.  Apologies all around.

As to your point Morgardee, I understand the logic behind what you are saying, but time and time again fandoms have proven your point is wrong.  Sorry to be blunt, but all fandoms vastly over estimate what their buying power is, and what "EVERYONE" wants.  Look at any club exclusive, and or, store exclusive and you will see that the numbers needed to make the price point what you consider reasonable just don't work for small companies.

Look at the BBTS Piranacon exclusive that I pointed out.  It was a reissue of a classic combiner for $60.  That is about what it would have cost at a large retailer.  It was something "EVERYONE" wanted released in the TF fandom.  There was talk of how great it was and "EVERYONE" was going to get it.  Well look at it now.  Twice in the last 3 months BBTS has had it reduced on sale and they still have stock.  The same goes for the Dreadnok and Marauder sets.  The $50 price point is not that far off of retail ($7+ without tax).  That is pretty good considering it is an exclusive to a, relatively, small outlet.  However I don't imagine BBTS will sell out of the set anytime soon.

Now take MC, and even smaller, let's say "boutique" outlet.  They make no bones about the fact that they charge more.  I don't have a membership and stopped a long time ago when they couldn't get product to "international" customers on time or at a reasonable price.  So don't take this as some grand defence of MC.  However they have done a bunch of exclusives for both TF and JOE fans and it is always hit or miss.  Yes they get some items that sell out and it seems obvious after the fact that they would, but more times than not it doesn't work that way, especially with a smaller JOE fandom.  They have a business plan that relys on small runs at higher costs, with a plan of no stock left over.  That leaves them little room for branching out from that plan, and having met Brian I get the distinct impression he has no interest in doing anything other than what he wants.

I think, with GI JOE especially, there is too much of a wait and get it even cheaper attitude.  So much product is showing up at deeply discounted prices now, especially unreleased items, that organizations like MC just can't compete (along with other poor business practices).  So MC does what other stores do, and tries to get the "high end" shopper.  It seems to work for them since they are still in business while others (3H former TFClub organization) went out of business trying to please everyone.

However all this verbal diarrhea I just spouted boils down to this point.  I am cynical, and I still haven't seen any evidence that most fandoms don't "say" they will support something, but when it comes time to pay up those large, vociferous crowds disappear.

Two things:  These sets may not be just an exclusive to BBTS , they may be an internet exclusive just like the previous 7 packs.  Sites in the past have toted that it was their own store exclusive when it was not.  BBTS just has pre-orders up before other sites.

Second there is a rumor the reason Hasbro went with Slaughters Marauders for the 7 pack is the Collectors club is producing the Marauders version of SGT. Slaughter as one of their figures for the subscription service after Hasbro chose not to make the figure.

I'm leery of putting any stock in that rumour, because, iirc, Hasbro declined to regain the license for Slaughter as a character because it became too expensive.

IF that is the case, I doubt that the Club could afford same to create any iteration of the character themselves.

The only way I would be able to get them is if BBTS does not sell out of their stock and has to sell it off to a wholesaler, then I might be able to get them.
Other than that, I am in the same boat as everyone else on these.

Brian's Toys has them as well, but I never buy from them as they are usually the most expensive place on line.
