Title: on blowing huge amounts of money on G.I. Joe
Post by: Jon S. on December 02, 2011, 07:55:09 AM
I just dropped $250 on Zombie-Viper pre-orders at BBTS.

Does this mean I have a problem?

No, only that you have more money than me.   What is your plan with this army,  some kind of Resident evil Dio?

No, it means you must really love Zombie-Vipers or BBTS to give them that much money.

How many Zombie Viper's did you get?

I don't think it's a problem if you get a lot of them.  I don't like paying a bunch of money for one figure.  That's why I haven't got Cold Slither Zarana or Starscream-Stiker yet.  Blowing a bunch of cash is justifiable if you get lots in return.

One time I dropped $350 at Hasbro Toyshop on a bunch of ROC figures that showed up at Walmart the very next week.  The positives from that were 1) it cost me the same at Walmart's retail prices, 2) I didn't have to stand in line anywhere and it came to my door, 3) the Rex I ordered showed up as the White Coat variant and bare chested Stormy had an unmasked head.  So it was a win-win for me.  My bank account didn't like it, but as the old saying goes "Money is easy to make, hard to find action figures are hard to find"

As long as you can afford it, theres no problem.  Just as long its not like mortgage money or food money or soemthing.

I have no dependents and no car. Life without those expenses gives me a larger toy budget. (though it is by no means unlimited)

I ordered 20 zombies and one Law & Order (to get eaten by zombies)

I've wanted to do a dio of Toxo-Zombies vs '87 G.I. Joes for quite some time now. Unfortunately, Toxo-Zombies are frickin' expensive and hard to find.

2011 has been good for my purposes in that Zombie Vipers, Law & Order, Crazylegs and the Renegades were all made in new-sculpt form to go with my existing Chuckles, Falcon, Tunnel Rat and Outback.

I don't think it's unreasonable to get 21 figures for $250.00.

I don't even want to begin to calculate how much money I've dropped on Joes since getting back into them in 2007.

I'm kind of like Jon, for the majority of that time I was single.  I do have a car, but it's paid off so just gas and insurance (and hot rod parts) go into it.  Thankfully my GF is very understanding about my Joe collecting, though she does wonder what the heck I'm gonna do when we have kids and they want to play with all my pristine Joes.

I think my single biggest expenditure at once so far was $375 for a 99% complete USS Flagg.  I've tons of $50-150 vehicle purchases though.

250$ for 21 figures it's not so bad.  I remember the first waves of 25th a few years ago.  I paid more for my army of Troopers, Officers, Vipers and Crimson Guards.
I paid over 20$ for some of my troopers with red logo. >:(

Yup, the problem is you seem to like zombie vipers, and that's just wrong. Please go see a doctor! ;)

I kid, of course. Not my cup of tea, sure, but as long as you have the dough, then spend the money on what you like. :)

I'll be the first one to say that Jon S. has excellent taste therefore his spending is justified. I rest my case!

-Dr. LJ (specialized in cases of canjoecon attendees who incidently inhaled too much of the halucinated gas intended for 5h4rk, and as a result have incontrolable compulsive Toxo-Zombie collecting craze, or simply buy all the lanard Corps! figures that they can find)

To a point. But I'm at the quality over quantity stage. I'd rather have one $100 Starduster than 50 $2 Raptors.
I guess at a certain point I just don't have room for everything, and suddenly paying a premium for single figures that save you space seems okay. I could buy new stuff all day for cheap but I have nowhere to put it.
But if the stuff you love is inexpensive, win-win.
This thread will demand dio pictures, FYI!!!  ;D

You should get in touch with Dave over at Slayer Design Studios and suggest they make few Zombie heads so they all don't look the same. I k now I asked for a Rock Viper head before and they made 2 and Dave is an easy going guy. If painting is an issue I can help. You've always been a straight shooter with me Jon and I like painting (small runs  ;) )

Just be careful. Once you start, you get hooked quickly.

I just dropped $160 on custom heads.  ;)

Hey Jon, there is a bunch of Zombie heads up over at Slayer:

I like these ones myself:

http://slayerdesignstudio.3dcartstores.com/Head-6_p_2069.html

http://slayerdesignstudio.3dcartstores.com/Head-33_p_2112.html

While I've worked with their heads a bunch of times I've never done Zombies before.

After some contemplation I'm going to forego the custom heads.

My stuff has always been fairly low-budget/lo-fi and I think I'll have more fun using found objects for my backdrops instead of trying to outclass everyone.
