So much for EB Games having the website ready to go yesterday.  It's under maintenance.  Same for Toys R Us.

I wanted to check out EB online to see what stores have a retro Zap in stock.  I should have bought it when I had the chance.

The one next my hometown, Whitby, closed on August 19.  Spirit Halloeen moved in.  Sigh.  At least my kids got to experience TRU a few times before it went tits up.  I still remember going there as a kid in 1986.  I got the HAVAC and my brother got the Thunder Machine that year.

Thinking back, that TRU store was the last one tied to my childhood. The others that I can recall are Consumers Distributing, Zellers, K-Mart, Woolco, Sears, Eatons, The Bay, and Bi-Way.  All gone.

This is what EB Games mentioned on August 21:

August 21: Online pre-orders and pickup reservations pause
August 24: Website goes into maintenance mode
August 29: Early store closures, all stores close at 5:00PM (EST)
August 30 & 31: All stores closed for the day
September 1: Stores resume regular opening hours & the new website goes Live!

This explains why they closed at 5 PM on Saturday when I visited the store in Ajax (I glossed over the email they sent, orginally).  At least I managed to get three retro figures (Wild Bill, Grunt, and Techno Viper) and Classifed Airtight I needed.  Wasn't cheap: I had the kids with me as well.  They had their own toy hunts.  lol

EB Games is the only reason why I still collect them, as I prefer to pick them up in person.  I have given up on Walmart and TRU carrying any new Joe product.  Zero interest in buying them from American sellers due to shipping costs and whatever taxes are added to them.

Found and bought the retro Dr. Mindbender, Rock N Roll, and Cobra Viper at a Gamestop/EB in Halton Hills yesterday (or whatever they want to call themselves nowadays).  I would have gotten the classified Major Bludd but meh, this figure does nothing for me.

Bought Leatherneck and Zandar from Gamestops near my job sites back in March.  Both were favs as a kid.  For some reason, I have passed on the Saw Viper.  Meh.

I have given up on Toys R Us on carrying the Classified line.  Nothing new was found.  Looks like they have given up as well.  They should have priced them accordingly.

What is happening with the Classified Retro carded Viper?

He is sold-out on Walmart, Game stop, Maple, Toy Snowman, ...

Low stock on Hasbro Pulse

MIA on Amazon...

I get it, he is a troop bulder, but still, I don't see collectors buying dozen of him. It's weird...

One word: scalpers.

Found Retro Beachhead and Retro Stalker in the wild today at Gamestop.  Bought both.  Beachhead is easily my favourite figure from the retro line.

So I got my second "Once A Man" Cobra Commander from Gamestop yesterday.   My first one was from Pulse.   Still a great figure and the packaging is wonderful.

I picked up OAM CC yesterday from a Game Stop.  He wasn't the reason why stopped in: Falcon was.  I held off long enough to get him and he is starting to disappear from retail.   Plus I want to check out what retros they had in stock (picked up CC and a Snow Serpent the other day from another Game Stop in my home town).  Took me 15 minutes to make the executive decision to buy him (it was him or Gnawgahyde).  I still hate the concept of Cobra La.  But I figured this figure will be hard to find down the road and would have zero interest in buying it from ebay.

When I went to pay, the cashier asked me they had another OAM CC for sale incase I was army building him.  My initial reaction was WTF.   I told him nobody army builds Cobra Commander (this guy should stick to video games).  He went on to mention somebody was buying them all up and never came back for the other two.  It was pretty clear at that point he was dealing with a scalper and told him this was the case.
