Well, having pre-registered, I'm really looking forward to my first Joe meet.

Unfortunately, it's also my first trip out on my own, so I'm kinda nervous and uncertain about a lot of things. I'm hoping some of you guys can come to my aid on this.

For starters... how do I get to Hamilton? I know this sounds ridiculous, but the only transit system I'm used to is the public transportation in the island of Montreal, so I have no idea where to even BEGIN looking for ways to get to Hamilton. If a fellow Montrealer who's going to the meet wants to offer me a ride, I'll split the gas and promise to keep my headphones on to be as little a bother as possible...  :-
Otherwise, if anyone knows of bus companies or trains I can take to get there, I would really appreciate it.

Second question I'd have would be places to stay, if necessary. Ideally, if possible, I'd rather go home straight after the meet but if not does anyone know of a hotel or something that I could get for relatively cheap, or even better if someone'd be willing to put me up (or rather put up with me  ) for a night?

Leaving Montreal on April 18th:
09:00pm  - Arriving in Hamilton on April 19th   09:55am     
12h, 55m trip - two connections.

Leaving Hamilton on April 19th
09:35pm  arriving in Montreal at 09:20am on April 20th
11h, 45m trip - two connections.

Cost - 237.20 CND (Round Trip)

Finally - $250.52 CAD - you can fly from Montreal to Toronto.
Then - Take a Go Train/Bus into Hamilton (not sure of the cost).

OR - you might be able to find someone to pick you up/drop you off in Toronto.

I am shocked at how little difference there is between the bus and the airplane. Seriously. Isn't the bus usually supposed to be the "cheaper alternative" for those who can't afford airplane travel?

Jay, hey man!

I'll also be travelling from Montreal, with a Coach company ( the same I took for last year's meet, i just dont remember which ). The cheapest way to go there is to purchase a round trip ticket Montreal-Toronto, and to take a bus connection with this other company called GO-something, that will take you to Hamilton. That's how I'll be travelling. In order to get there on time to the Meet, there's a coach bus that leaves Montreal on friday night, that is midnight something, and takes you to Toronto for 6 something in the morning. From the Coach terminal to the other company's bus terminal is about a good 10-15 minute walk. And better yet, there's a McDonald's right at the terminal where you have over 30 minutes to enjoy a quiet breakfast.

Yep, Bus is the cheapest way to get to Hamilton. See you there I hope, unless you need a travelling companion just to be on the safe side!

P.S: are you a student? Because you can get a discount by showing your card.

I was going to suggest the VIA train as it goes from Montreal to Aldershot (in which take a short bus ride into Hamilton).   But that round trip ticket is just as much as flying.  $214.46

So... Why didn't ya make it Jay? You coulda grabbed the $10.00 bus from Montreal to Toronto!

Oh, some things came up at the last minute, sadly.

Didn't really think it'd be worth making a big announcement or anything, and to be frank the attendance list looked so big I doubted anyone would've noticed my absence.

10$ bus to Toronto? How come I didn't hear about that before?

Anyone coming from far out of town and ending up in Toronto, whether you fly, bus, or train. Once you get to Toronto you want to go to Union Station and take the GO train to Burlington. Then transfer to a GO bus to Hamilton. With the cost of flying right now it would be worth it to fly. Westjet is even waiving the fuel surcharges.
