That's a good one too.  The whole storyline where Stalker, Snow Job and Quick Kick go to the gulag brings me back as does issue 47 - introing Beach Head and Hawk's new clothes look.

Yeah, the gulag story was fantastic.  Outback's escape in the Special Missions was a good read.  And his return to the Pit and angering Leatherneck was a good touch.

Seriously the Marvel GI Joe run is incredible, and the new IDW Series "GIJOE: COBRA" is phenomenal.

Also if you can find them I recommend Larry Hama's "NTH Man" series, drawn mostly by Joe-veteran Ron Wagner.

i love 'Shakedown' too. it was reprinted in Marvel UK's Action Force Weekly #3 and #4. i SO wanted a Skystriker and a Rattler after that...

i also love 'Improvisations on a Theme' which brought in Airtight, Bazooka, Heavy Metal, Crankcase and the BATs.

the SM story with the Conquest vs Night Raven was awesome too.

My second favourite plot ever! SOOOOO different from the cartoon. Imprisonment, death, torture, politics, racism, heroism, sacrifice, etc.....
First was the invasion of Cobra Island (part 1) and the third on my list would be the Trucial Abysmia war where the casualties pile up.

I hear you on all acounts.  And I too remember fondly the Special Missions tie-in to that story with Outback.

Issue two had Kwinn and fleshed out characters, the Sierra Gordo run from around issues 12-14 or 15 brings me back.  The story in the early 30s around Snake's cabin....good times....

Thanks to issue 10, I now know that if I am ever forcibly confined to always put any water I am given close to a light bulb to neutralize the hallucinogenic drugs.

G.I. JOE: COBRA is an amazing read each month and as for the Marvel run I really liked issue 85 "SFX". It's another silent issue but with Storm Shadow, Jinx and Zartan and its a pretty decent read. And you can't go wrong with pretty much any issue of Special Missions, that book was FULL of amazing stories.

Well, SFX differed from the other silent issues because even though it was silent, it still had sound effects, which were integral to the story.  It was a good one, too!

One night, I just geeked out on silence, reading Silent Prelude, Silent Interlude, Silence Between Borders, and Hush Job in that order just because I felt like it.  Felt good, man.
