Off Topic / AT-TE now $50 at Sam's Club.

Saw this at my local Sam's Club today.  They had 8 left, most with some damage to the boxes, however for $50 it might be worth it to open.

Off Topic / Marvel 3 3/4" figures now at Walmart. Also DC figs.
« on: January 03, 2009, 11:13:17 AM »
Well I did a little shopping today and found the new Marvel 3 3/4" line of figures today at both Sherway Walmart and Square 1 Walmart.  Square 1 also had the DC figures.

Here is the price:  $7.92 for the DC figures.  $9.92 for the Marvel figures.

DC:  While I am not that impressed by the figures and articulation, they are pretty good overall.  Barely worth the $8 price tag.  Although a great selection of characters.  I only saw Joker, Black Lightning, Spectre, Dr. Fate and Superman.  But on the back I must have missed, Wildcat, Star Sapphire, Question, Scarecrow, Batman, Nightwing, GCPD officer.  So die hard fans will love them, but I probably will only go for the characters I really love.

Marvel:  Ok, $10 is a bit much, but these are some great figures.  Comparing them to the DC figures shows you just how much better they are.  The selection of charcters in wave 1 is a bit puzzling, but at least they didn't go all out in the first wave.  The variants are apparently Stealth Iron Man and Human Torch in FF costume.  This wave has a total of 12!!!! different figures.  Yes a couple of variants, but overall 12 separate figs to get.  This line looks great and I think Hasbro has another hit on their hands, especially one that can easily take over ML.

Has any purchased extra flints to use as Cobra Soldiers?

I have.

As for the price increase, got to love corporations in this economic uncertainty who are maintaining or trying to increase their bottom line. ::)  Over inflated prices on a lot of retail goods should be dropping, not increasing.

That is for certain. I just don't get Hasbro sometimes. With the costs of oil gone down substantially since the summer why have figures gone up? By the time the movie figures hit, they are gonna be $9.99 or $10.99 each.

So you have them at $8.92 now, but that would be about $7.30 US Dollar. Which is what I thought they were around already. So maybe you guys are just catching up to us in pricing???

You guys need to remember that Hasbro doesn't set the retail price.  Also, these figures were probably made 3 months ago at a higher price point for oil.

The fact is that with the price increases in the US we were getting a good deal at Walmart on these and now it is catching up to us.  Factor in that Walmart is the one "winner" this year in a bad economy, and they don't really have to worry too much about pricing.

General Joe Talk / Re: Scrap-Iron and Cobra Ferret Image

I'm figuring it to be a movie pack.  Hasbro has done one thing right so far and that is stay true to the original vehicles while giving them an update.

I am willing to bet that we will see an accurate Ferret sometime in the upcoming year and this is probably just a movie repaint to capitalize on the movie and mold.

General Joe Talk / What's your pick for 2008? Best......
« on: December 25, 2008, 09:44:22 PM »
Thought I would ask.  What do you consider the "Best of 2008?"

I broke it down into categories, but feel free to pick whatever.

Best single carded figure -

It was a really tough decision with so many new and updated figures that I loved.  It came down to 2 great updates.  The BAT and Eel.  In the end the "best of the best" from Cobra's forces won out.  The Eel is my choice for best single carded figure.

Best Comic 2 pack -

Lt. Falcon/Nemesis.  I know this is probably a controversial choice, but after considering many things, I went with a pack that had 2 "new" figures, great accessories (especially Nemmy) and a good comic (not great).  Both were good updates, even with the common complaints about Lt. Falcon.

Best "SRO" 3 pack -

I went with the Naval Command.  A nice Deep Six alternate fig, a passable Cutter and a cartoon accurate Torpedo made this set stand out over the other sets this year.

Best Multipack -

I decided to go with all the current multipacks rather than break them down into 5 packs and 7 packs.  This was a pretty easy choice.  Even though we got greenshirts and accurate CGs, it really was no contest.  The Arctice Extreme conditions pack was the far and away winner.  Great reuses of figures, and "new" troopers.

Best Vehicle -

Man, this was a doozy.  I really loved the vehicles released this year, but when it came time to pick, it was down to 2.  The Rattler and the Firebat.  I love me some Cobra Air Force.  Final nods had to go to the more iconic vehicle, the Rattler.

Best "Accessory" -

Sooo many choices...a new Swamp Skier, Trakker's Helipack, the TV camera from the Movie, Vines to hold Roadblock, etc. etc.  This was really too tough.  Every choice seemed right, and not right.  I have to say the TV camera from the Movie was my favourite.  It is just a great little nod to a classic moment.  However, almost anything could really have been chosen.

2008 "BEST" overall -

MASS Device.  Really was there any doubt?  An iconic item that really was worth the "build-a" concept.

Interesting.....

We've already seen the 2 other 5 packs.

What could they be doing with the "Omega/Resloute" 5 pack?  Are we talking the same Duke, CC & Trooper?  Or new colours?  I figure the Officer will be the same as the trooper with some paint difference.  The BAT will be very interesting to see.  Are they going to give us a 25th updated BAT or something retooled and slightly different?

Sweet Sally Mugumbo!!!

Thank you Hasbro!!

Pay no mind to these heretics, this is great news.  I already have a PP Conquest, but a new one is always welcome.  Also, a chance to get the Tiger Rat?  I'm in.

I figured Hasbro would try and use the molds again, and thankfully they did it with my two favourite subgroups.  I wish they would have used Skystriker instead of Wild Bill, but otherwise great news.

I wouldn't mind a little bit of a lull after Christmas.  Give everyone a chance to catch their breath and hopefully clear out the wave 1 vehicles clogging the shelves.

General Joe Talk / Re: True Heroes - Air Force Helicopter
« on: December 14, 2008, 09:00:51 PM »
Honestly I don't understand the love this vehicle gets on the boards.  I don't think it looks particularly realistic or well proportioned.  I much prefer a bunch of their other vehicles.

I picked up their Navy SEAL boat and I am almost finished customizing it for Cobra.  I saw the black F-22 and thought it was pretty sweet.  Also the Black Hawk helicopter is pretty good.  A couple of their smaller land vehicles are great as well, especially the one with the big rocket launcher on top.

Anyway, enjoy it, that is really all that matters.  I know that on Amazon they had another helicopter with the wide open underspace for cargo that some in the US picked up to customize for use with Cobra.  I would probably bite on something like that.

Customs / Since I can't find a customs thread. Here is my UBP custom.
« on: December 13, 2008, 08:35:59 PM »
I had some extra vehicles and figures that I decided to make use of with the UBP packaging.  So with a little customizing I have this set, the Crimson Guard UBP.

Here is the list of what is in the set:

1 Crimson HISS (Crimson Guard Sabotage) (2003?)
1 CAT II (Crimson Attack Tank) (2003?)
1 Crimson Flight Pod (custom 25th Anni. FP)
4 Crimson Guards (25th Anni. wave 5)
1 Fred Crimson Guard (25th Anni. comic pack w/custom Crimson Jet Pack)
25th Anni. Tomax & Xamot

I'll post more pics later.
